1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Delayed Gratification- The Dreaded Wait

Jun 23, 2013

    1. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second? Both my first and second were only about a week, as they were both in stock at Junkyspot. I didn't actually have to be patient and wait for long until I ordered Blake, my RingDoll Shao, who took about 2-3 months. That was agonizing!

How do you wait for a doll? I spent most of the time buying him stuff. lol Now, I've waited for up to 5 months for a doll, and I try to focus on my others while I wait, or use the time to be sure I have everything the new one will need when he arrives.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll? Sort of. If I really want a specific sculpt and can't find it secondhand, I'll just have to suck it up and deal with the long wait times. Settling for the wrong sculpt, but faster, usually ends in disappointment. But if I'm torn between two or more equally fitting sculpts, I'll usually choose the one with the shortest wait time.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll? That would have been for Mikko, my 5star Tumnus. The estimated wait time was 5-8 weeks, but they kept putting it off, with little to no communication. His head was ready within 2 months, but the body wasn't until the five month mark, and I couldn't get him shipped separately. When he finally arrived at just over 20 weeks, his head was two shades darker than his body.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll? Enjoy it before it arrives! Pick out a wig, eyes, shoes, clothes, accessories.....figure out the character, the basic info, the backstory. If you're into that sort of thing, start role playing him or writing his story.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them? Not always, but sometimes, usually to judge how long to expect to wait and see if there have been any problems with new arrivals. I don't usually feel a need to talk about my incoming doll for 6 months, but sometimes if things are delayed or there are problems, it's nice to see if others are getting information when I'm not. Also, if I've ordered a new sculpt, it's cool to see others getting that doll and seeing what he looks like irl before I get mine.

    2. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first wait was much, MUCH worse. Since the second time I sort of already knew how it goes and what to expect and so on.. but still, I've never been good at waiting ;)

How do you wait for a doll?
      Very impatiently.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
No. If it's a doll I want, I don't care how long I have to wait ...even tho I'm the least patient person in the world xD Or one of them anyway.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Uh.. I don't think I've actually had any really bad experiences while waiting ..yet xD (oh man, now I've gone and jinxed it..)

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Good things come to he/she who waits :3 ...ot if it takes too long (longer than they said it would), you can always go to the company site and ask how's it going with the order.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I'm relatively new here so I haven't used 'em yet ^^

    3. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
They didn't really in terms of time, as they were both about a week. I was much more excited for my second doll though, as I saved a lot longer for her and wanted her more.

How do you wait for a doll?
I usually just stalk the site/email/tracking or however I'm keeping in touch with the seller, and sometimes I check out photos of other people's dolls of the same mold. I try not to buy too much until they arrive so I can get an idea of what I want for them.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
It can be. My longest wait before I bought a DC body (bought in Feb and it just shipped today) was my Leeke Mihael which might have been 2 months (I can't recall anymore) and it was tolerable. In hindsight on the DC body, I don't think I like waiting this long though I know it can be part of the game. With my current mentality toward the hobby, I'm far less patient and I lose interest quickly.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
An artist BJD that never arrived. The creator admitted it was sitting ready in her house and she never shipped it due to depression, keeping my money and leaving me without the doll and past the time to fight for funds (I did get her etsy shop shut down though).

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Try to be patient? Haha, I don't know anymore, as I've lost patience over the years.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I've never really utilized them. Most of the dolls I've waited for don't have active threads.

    4. How does everyone manage with waiting for their dolls to arrive? I have about 5 of them in waiting from Luts and Soulfoll, one of which is a Christmas present so I'll have to wait even longer for her >.<

    5. Make plans. Like if you haven't already, start planning out their background, history, looks. That's what I do. I start thinking of what I'd like them to be when they're finished, their history and backgrounds... I also like to "window-shop" a bit.

Though it's still pretty hard to wait. I feel ya. I have 2 on layaway right now and it -sucks-.

    6. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
      Honestly, I think the first wait wasn't as bad as the second. Though that's most likely because I had school during the first wait so there was a lot of work and time focused on other things. Waiting for my second doll happened to be during summer break after I had gone through most of my plans. x_x;

How do you wait for a doll?
I plan out their characters and look for stuff to get them or to make for them. I also tend to plan out other dolls I haven't even bought. :sweat Those plans are really just to pass time though. I know events, limiteds, and new releases always mess them up.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Nope! Unless I've heard the wait was a drastically long period of time compared to most, I don't think twice about it.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
I only have two dolls and neither really had issues. Both actually arrived much sooner than expected.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Make yourself busy! Whether it's work or school or setting up for the incoming doll, it helps to actually be doing something.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I went to the waiting room after ordering my first doll but all I saw were posts of people adding or removing themselves from the wait list. It didn't seem like there were any recent conversations or excitement so I didn't use it. That time was during an event though so that could be a reason why.

    7. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
I only waited about 5 or 6 days from the time I paid for my first doll until the time I got him, as I bought him secondhand off someone on eBay. For my second doll, I waited about 6 weeks from payment to arrival, because I bought her direct from the company.

How do you wait for a doll?
I generally order their eyes and wig and one outfit for them. Other than that, I usually just try to forget that I'm waiting by keeping myself busy with work, my other dolls and my other hobbies. I'm generally a very patient person, particularly when I know I can trust the company or person I've bought from, and I know that everything's being taken care of. My worrying about when my doll will arrive won't make him get here any faster.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Not really. Waiting is the name of this game, after all.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Ugh...I can't even talk about that, as the situation is still ongoing.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
My best advice is try not to obsess over exactly when your doll will ship. If the company says it'll take 45 days to make your doll, then you can be sure it'll take approximately 45 days, and there's nothing you can do to lessen that amount of time. Don't email the company for an update, unless it seems to be taking way longer than the stated time. I'd suggest trying to keep yourself occupied with other interests while you're waiting.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I've used them once or twice, but there wasn't much conversation in the rooms I used, so no, they weren't particularly helpful to me. I prefer having conversations with people in the brand-specific / size-specific discussion threads.

    8. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first doll I bought took a day or two shy a month to get to me. It drove me insane, and I obsessed over getting him. The second doll I got was bought second hand and was a gift, so was unexpected. I think he took three days to ship.

How do you wait for a doll?
I kind of just ignore it. I work on coming up with a character, fleshing him out, plan on buying clothes (though I rarely do, since I keep putting it off) Generally now I just look forward to getting my new doll, but don't obsess over when he's going to arrive. Layaway helps a lot, since I can stretch out paying him along with the wait time.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Not so much, unless I know that it's going to take 6+ months. Then I try to get the doll secondhand first.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Other than the first doll, which I just wanted so bad I thought I was going to go insane if he didn't arrive asap, I did wait for six months for my DS Husky. My friend ordered the same time as me and got hers a month before me, and I was going nuts waiting for him to come home. In the end it was kind of cool, because I got him on New Year's Eve, so it made it kind of special.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Don't obsess, and dont expect your doll to ship as soon as it says in the website. Enjoy planning your doll, whether it be clothes, or character, or anything else. The waiting is actually the best part, because its so exciting dreaming about what your doll will be like!

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
Yes! I love waiting rooms, though some of them aren't as active as others. The active ones are awesome...that is, until the dolls start to arrive around the time you bought yours. Then it becomes really hard to wait!!

    9. My first doll was from Soom, and even though she was an Xmas event kit with no face up it took 3 months for her to get to me. My second was from Dollmore and arrived only about a month after I paid for her.

I come up with names and personalities for my dolls while I wait for them. I'm working on props for the third while I wait for her.

So far I haven't bought a doll while waiting for one, but that could change.

The worst part about waiting is my parents worrying about me spending a lot of money and not getting what I bought at non BJD shipping speed! I'm careful about who I will order from so I don't worry that much.

i haven't been in the waiting rooms much so far, I prefer to watch the discussion threads.

      I ha

    10. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first wait seemed really short, now that I think about it. Though I was on DoA so much, commenting on gallery threads and stuff, so it really distracted me. My boy came home in 4 weeks, though, so it was nothing compared to how long you wait now. A notice was left, though, and I had gotten home only minutes after it was delivered, it seemed. But I didn't have a way to the post office, so I had to wait until the next day. That was torture.
When I ordered my second doll, the wait seemed hard, but flew by really fast.

How do you wait for a doll?
Like I said before, I would go through DoA a lot. I still do that, too. I look at a lot of owner pictures, if I'm able. I love coming up with a face up design, hair color, eye color.. It's fun developing a character. It really keeps me busy.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
No. It's torture, yes. But if I want the doll enough, I really don't care as long as I get them. XD

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
My worst experience was Soom, around 2009, when they were taking 6 months or longer to ship a doll.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Keep yourself busy. Plan your dolls character or their appearance. Look for clothes, eyes, wigs.. There's a lot out there, so it should keep someone busy enough, I would hope. XD

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
Waiting rooms are helpful, if you want to know how long people are waiting for a specific doll. I use them, just to keep track of that. But when it comes to talking, it's no use. I've noticed so many people get skipped over if they ask a question. I've gotten completely ignored in waiting rooms. It's like no one really cares, unless you're getting a doll that they like or a doll that isn't owned by everyone on DoA. :/ I even try to notice everyone that comes into a room and I welcome them, though sometimes I still get ignored. =_= It's really frustrating, especially if you're asking a question. I like sharing my excitement with other people, but it seems they're too busy to engage in any other conversation with new people in the room.

    11. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
My first dolls were all secondhand so I didn't have to wait until I came deeper into the hobby.

How do you wait for a doll?
First of all it is easy for me. I have been through four deployments so months for a doll to me is pretty easy. I try not to think about it. Wishing it was here sooner won't speed the time up. It'll just delay it in my opinion.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Only because we are military and I don't always know where we will be in however many weeks/months. This is what I hate about the hobby!

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
      None so far! :)

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Give yourself other plans and goals to work towards instead of just sitting and waiting. Get exited and create ideas and maybe even buy the doll stuff but create some sort of goal (even if it is non doll related).

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I have never used one actually

    12. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

A little less stressful, because I knew what to expect.

How do you wait for a doll?

I plan out what I want to do with their character and what items I might need.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

It depends on the length of the wait. I'm fine with a 1-3 month wait -- that's been pretty typical in my experience (I would say most of the ones I bought new averaged about 2 months). A wait of 6 months or more would definitely make me hesitate since that's a long time to have that much money tied up.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

I bought an AoD right when a dealer first started selling them to overseas people. It took forever, and it turned out the dealer totally flaked out. However, the company took care of everything and I did finally get my doll.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

I know it's hard, but try to be patient. Unless you are buying from a dealer that has the doll in stock, it is being made for you, and you have to allow time for that. If it really drags on past a few months go ahead and make a polite inquiry, but don't panic because it's not ready in a month. Also before you order, you can do a search here on DoA and get an idea of how long things typically take. I'm always less stressed out about buying/waiting when I feel like I know what to expect.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

Yes, I have used waiting rooms and find them to be a lot of fun -- I do think it helps to have people to commiserate and share in the excitement with.

    13. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Both my first doll and second doll were shipped quickly, probably because they were both LEs and ready to ship. My first was shipped in less than a week and arrived in two weeks or so. My second one took a bit longer to arrive due to some problems at the customs but it wasn't any longer than a month or so.

How do you wait for a doll?
To be honest, my work schedule is so hectic, I don't even have time to think about the doll most of the time after I order it. When I do have time, I browse clothes or shop for wigs and eyes. I usually don't have a character for the doll when I order it so I just try to build one while waiting.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
If I know the company has a history of extremely long waiting periods, I sometimes try to find the doll I want in the marketplace. I haven't decided against a doll just because the wait would be long yet.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
That would be my Soom Heliot. I waited over six months to finally get a shipping notification just to find out they sent the doll without face-up. They offered to pay for the shipping if I wanted to send the heads back so I did. I told myself no more dolls from Soom though.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Be patient! Good things come to those who wait... x3

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I sometimes check them and read the comments but I rarely post. They can be handy for some useful information.

    14. I'm waiting on my first doll, and the wait is killing me. Mostly I'm trying to keep busy with other projects. When I go out shopping at thrift stores I like to look for things that might work for her. Of course, not having her makes it hard since I can't visualize her size.

I have one of her photos from the company's website set as the wallpaper on my phone... Though I'm not sure if this is helpful, or hurtful to my patience. :)

I knew the wait was going to be long, but that's why I opted for a layaway plan with Mint on Card, rather than ordering direct from the company. I can pay a part of the amount every month, she gets ordered, and ideally, she should arrive about the time I finish paying for her. This seemed better for me because then I wasn't waiting on saving the money and then on production and shipping.

    15. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
I just knew that I had to wait. Apart of waiting that helps me is looking at pics of the doll on the site and also daydreaming about what part of the process they are in at that very moment, are they making her hands? Doing her face-up?

How do you wait for a doll?
I try to forget about them for a while. And then I daydream about how I want them, and look at the DOA forms.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
I don't think this will be a problem for me. I would only consider the wait if it was like a year wait.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Thinking about the doll, and knowing I could have taken him/her to a meet or something when they are not here.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
You just have to wait, the key is forgetting about them for a little while. Maybe plan some clothes around the very start of your wait, or the very end to help you along.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

I talk and try to find out how many people have bout the same doll as me. I also screen the waiting room to see when dolls ship out to get a better idea on how long I will have to wait. I like knowing if the company is a little behind or not. :)

    16. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
First doll was shipped within 10 days. So totally spoiled. It was from a company in the US (Blue Blood Doll). Second doll took a lot longer and that was painful.

How do you wait for a doll?
Shopping for clothes, wigs, shoes or something specific for the new doll. I also work on writing and just doing general research. I look at other dolls, box openings, photo-stories etc. Now that I have most of my brood, the wait is a lot easier because I am completely occupied with the ones I have.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

It was when I was considering my first doll and I didn't have MP access at the time. So I researched companies/distributors that had quicker shipping. Now it doesn't matter.

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
Probably the wait for my second doll. He took 4 months and he was sort of a special muse doll for me so I was really impatient to get him. When I finally got him the company face-up was awful, and he had a cracked knee joint, so I still really couldn't play with him & it was a big let down.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
I guess prepare the space etc...the hard part is when you're all done and the doll still isn't there.

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

Yep. Some are more active than others and can be a lot of fun. I really like seeing what's coming in. It really gives a sense that things are happening when you see orders arriving. Plus it's nice to give and receive encouragement when patience starts wearing out.

    17. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
Well, the first doll/s I bought were from an overseas company, but the first and second dolls I bought were second hand. So, the first doll I actually received took all of the discussion my friend had with my partner while I was in the bathroom XD (She sold her to him as a gift for me as she was going to sell her anyway). My second doll to arrive was off the MP here, and she arrived pretty quick, maybe a week and a half? So that wasn't too long.

How do you wait for a doll?
Impatiently! If I can I make clothes for them before they come home (I need a suitable model), failing that I spend a lot of time in the waitingroom, talking about how I'm distracting myself. In the waiting room for the first dolls I bought, several of us added eachother on facebook and all played the same FB games so we could have something to do while we waited!

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Sometimes - I'm an impatient person, so I don't like the waiting. But at the same time, it's kinda fun. Swings and round-abouts I guess!

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
The first company I bought from wasn't the best company - I hadn't joined DoA before I ordered, and so couldn't see the company feedback thread, so didn't know how bad it would end up. It's in the past now, and I never bonded with those two dolls because of the experience. Now I'm pretty diligent with company checks before I order.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Find something to occupy your time - whether it's a terrible facebook game, sewing for the doll, or an entirely different hobby, if you're active and have something to keep yourself busy with, the time will fly by!

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
I enjoy them - you can see where the company is on orders to an extent, and also chat with other people who are waiting on dolls of the same size/sculpt/company. You also usually get linked to box openings, which are great to see (even if they make the waiting harder!)

    18. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?

amazingly, my first doll's wait was the one that produced less suffering, in contrast to how it normally is. i had her on lay away and they started producing her after i made my first payment, by the time i was done paying she was ready to be shipped.

the second set of dolls i ordered were different, i had them on lay away, and after the lay away was paid up is when they started producing....i pulled my hair, but my nails, ranted and agonized for nearly 6 months.... not counting the fact that i was overly exited to get my first boys and that just added to my misery

How do you wait for a doll?

first of all i try not to keep track of time as much as i can, that just adds to the pain....i rather be surprised with the shipping notice than just scratching every single day off the calendar.
i focus on their character and try to build their story as much as possible, that way i keep my mind busy.
i go out to the craft stores and look for materials for the stuff they need, since i immensely enjoy sewing their own clothes.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?

no, if i can have the doll i like, i will wait, specially if its an LE

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?

i mentioned it above, but it was with my two boys from soom...OMG i thought the clock had stopped and they'd never send them!!!! then when they got home they forgot to include the wigs, eyes and accessories i had ordered, so i had to wait another week with the blank dolls just sitting there until i received the rest of the stuff :(

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?

exercise patience  do not count the days, the more you do the more it drags! >_<

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?

i do use them sometimes, they are good to share the misery with other people and to comfort each other through the hideous waiting times

    19. Hoo boy,

How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
The first doll I recieved was actually the second doll I ordered and paid for: My Batchix Mini-Machina. She took... around four months, with constant updates from Batchix via email and tumblr. I was happy with this because she makes dolls as a hobby, and boy was it worth the wait! The first doll I ordered is due to arrive any day now, after a whopping 8 months (I ordered him in December 2012)

How do you wait for a doll?
by going to work, going out with friends, playing videogames, life stuff. The wait isn't a big deal for me, I guess.

Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
Not really. I understand that these guys are made to order, and my experience with casting resin has taught me that resin is not forgiving in the slightest. If anything, the wait time was what prompted me to apply for a credit card so I don't need to add 2-3 months onto that wait time for layaway!

What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
See above: 8 months for my Ringdoll Teen Ashford type B! Three of those months was paying the layaway, one month was a holiday period for RD and the other four was production. I knew what I was getting into thanks to the waiting room threads, which I stalked for about six months or so.

What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Don't think about them too much, and just keep doing your thing! Maybe spend a bit of time planning out their character, but you'll find that some of those plans will change once you get then home!

What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
Definitely! I'm pretty new to being active in the hobby (been lurking on and off for around 4-5 years?), so waiting rooms are a great resource! I also have a habit of lurking in rooms for companies I'm thinking of ordering from, so I can get an idea of how long the wait time will be or what communication is like. I also do this with box openings on both DoA and Youtube.

    20. How did your first wait for a doll differ from your second?
I think my second was just as painful as the first because they were both delayed by 1 month.
How do you wait for a doll?
Looking at pictures of other dolls, looking for their outfits, making them stuff, stalking the order status, going on DoA, watching movies.
Is the wait a deterrent for you when considering buying a doll?
No not really or I would never get them.
What was your worst experience with waiting for a doll?
The bad thing about the wait is you tend to not look at your doll because you don't want to think about them. And like any relationship, when you don't see each other it is easier for you to fall in love with something else. I actually forgot the reason why I got them in the first place and berated myself for being so hasty in my purchase. Happened with my first and my second. So for my third and fourth I constantly look at their pictures.
What advice do you have for someone who is waiting for a doll?
Look at other people's pictures of your doll so you can feel connected with them and plan stuff for them instead of looking at other dolls.
What about the waiting rooms here on DOA, Do they help you? Do you use them?
They help a lot when you have other people supporting you, and you KNOW they share your pain. Talking with any other person not in the hobby is a complete waste of time and they make you feel bad.
