Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. i did and i loved it, it was my own little world!!! <3 i now collect several kinds that are not bjd also, but i don't play with them, i display them lol XD

    2. No not really, I was a bit of a tom boy I liked Lego and climbing tree's lol

    3. I HATED them as a child!
I preferred painting and dinosaur toys haha but I'm making up for it now :)

    4. I never really played with dolls when I was little. I wasn't a tomboy, but I mostly played with stuffed animals and plastic animals. I read a ton. I also played (and play) a lot of video games. I had some Barbies, but they didn't get played with much. The thing is I always wanted really nice dolls. I wanted a big doll house with furniture and really pretty dolls. So at first I was really confused as to why I suddenly got interested in BJDs. Not only did I not really play with dolls in the past, I even thought BJDs were creepy at first but then I changed my mind and now I'm obsessed. I suppose in the end, they are fulfilling a childhood dream of having nice, pretty dolls, and also they serve so many of my other interests, like writing, art, photography, and general character creation.

    5. I loved all kinds of toys: barbies, old-school littlest pet-shop, plastic horses... I went through stages of liking different toys as I grew older. Dolls as such were never a huge item for me, but I had my share of barbie fascination at about 7 or so.

I've never really outgrown toys: I kept collecting stuffed animals throughout high-school and was often given them as birthday gifts by friends. In uni and beyond I had a few years worth of LPS collecting leaving me with about 60 or 70 figures to date... It was probably BJDs themselves that rekindled an interest in actual dolls, however, in my late 20s.

    6. Yeah there was a discussion under "Did you hate dolls?" so almost the same.

I was always a huge doll lover. I still have all my dolls that I had as a child. Mind you a few of them have no cloths or hair now because I thought I could cut a better style and as a kid the FIRST thing you did was take the cloths off!! LOL

Anyway the joke growing up was I used to pile all my dolls in the bed with me and when I fell asleep I'd turn over and knock them all off the bed. So my mother would wait for the sounds of the thuds and thumps of doll hitting the floor, then she knew for sure I was asleep....

    7. I did play some dolls when I was a child..barbies..but i never played them like other girls do, like combing their hair, changing clothes or even having tea with them..i'd rather pop their heads out and hang them with their hair, remove their clothes and removing their limbs..that's just how i play with them..I'm quite a tomboy when i was a child..

    8. when i was like 2 years old i had (still have) a non brand doll, and i also used to play with some barbies and Disney dolls, but what i was really crazy about was my little ponies and stuffed animals, then i wans´t interested on dolls (unless they were mermaids) and keep the craze for ponies and stuffed animals.

For a long time i lost all interest on dolls (and kind of hated them ¿?), but then thanks to a pony forum with a dedicated area for dolls that i met Junplaning i was specially interested in Dals and byuls, a new interest in dolls was born, i fell in love with them and then i met BJD, i was really impressed!

    9. When I was little long time ago......"Boy's don't play whither dolls..........They're Action Figures!!!!"

Im older now........I play with dolls

    10. I had a big box full of Barbies, then I went through a Bratz phase. I also had a baby born and about 10 other baby dolls. But I always stole my brother's action figures because they could pose better so I guess it makes sense that I've gotten into this hobby.

    11. Nooo. I hated dolls so much when I was a kid. I was that weird little kid who was too young and chewed up the hands and feet on Barbies. I still get kind of squicked out by most dolls, but I love ABJDs for whatever reason. @_@

I did, however, play with stuffed animals like you would with dolls. With my cousins, we played "Dogs", whatever the heck that was, with a Puppy Surprise. Sometimes we put those Quints dolls into the Puppy Surprise, it was funny.

    12. I wasn't too fussed on dolls. I played with barbies with my cousin, because she liked them. But I was much happier with MLP's or drawing.

    13. There were times when I really liked playing with my barbies. But I think this time did not last very long.
But I always had toys around me, no matter which age I am!

    14. I wasn't really a "Barbie girl" but I loved bratz and baby dolls when I was even younger!

    15. I played with barbies but usually they end up to be headless.. xD

    16. I did to an extent, but they were never my favourite toys. It annoyed me that they couldn't stand on their own, or do more than three clicks of their knee joint, etc. (As an adult collector it's all about the articulation for me!)

I did love trolls though, and had a whole troll village made of cardboard boxes under my bed...

    17. Being a guy, I never played with dolls, but I did have a large G.I. Joe with interchangeable clothes and stuff.

    18. I guess I always owned dolls, but they were never my favorite toys. I liked to mix my dolls with other toys, for example, playing with barbie and pokemon figures to pretend the doll was a pokemon trainer, and so on;;

    19. Did you play with dolls as a child?
yes I was quite fond of barbies.
      Why or why not?
I guess because my parents bought them for me? I can't really recall my state of mind at that age...
If yes, did your childhood love of dolls get you into BJDs or was it something else?
I guess the attraction started when I saw them at anime conventions, they facinated me and I eventually decided I wanted one of my own.

    20. sorry comp double poasted.
