Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. Nope. I actually hated dolls when I was a kid, but it wasnt because I was a tomboy. I found the reason I didnt like dolls when I was little was because I found them to be unrealistic. I hated that they didnt bend or pose like I could and I didnt understand why, so I never liked them. I didnt like alot of other toys for the same reason.

    2. Hahahha NOPE! They scared the heck out of me. XD They still do! Sometimes, even my own bjds scare me so I don't like putting them out of their boxes now that I think about it. :P Something about looking at them in very dim settings makes me feel like they're going to jump on/at me. XD Yeah I know I'm silly (and obviously a scaredy cat). I was more of a nerdy kid. I liked those educational trivia games and I absolutely adored the computer! haha. Watching cartoons was on the top of my list as well. :chibi

    3. I did! I collected Barbies, Bratz, Polly Pockets, porcelain dolls--all sorts of them! The BJD is the pinnacle of everything that I've ever owned, of course.

    4. No! I absolutely hated dolls as a child. I only became interested in dolls after I saw some bjds on the internet and saw how people customized them. I've always loved arts and crafts, so the idea of customizing a doll just fit.

    5. I loved dolls ( and still do :D)
I collected lots of Barbies, and some other dolls, but never had enough of them )
I was always drwaming about the doll that will look like a real person, and now, when I own BJD, my dream came true

    6. I played with action figures moreso than dolls.
Porcelain dolls freak me out terribly, and my cat used to eat anything rubber or plastic so barbies and all those were out of the question. So I only had my few prized ones that I kept safe from his terror XD

And none of that really influenced my bjd... I've just loved how creative you can be with them and I am a creativity junkie XD

    7. Lol, I LOVED dolls when I was younger!

I actually took three or four barbies to elementary school and played with them on the playground during recess. Myself and a friend would always keep one naked barbie laying around and when the boys came to tease us we would chase them with said naked barbie. :P

I still have all my old barbies in storage, waiting for the day when I can share them with my little one. ;)

    8. In my childhood I prefered toy cars and soldiers )) and I played with boys generally )) dolls are my adult hobby )

    9. Not really xD; I did have some dolls of course at some points in my life and I did love playing with them when I did but I've always favoured My Little Ponies, Playmobil, Legos and my ever trusty game boy over them. I also had some wonderful porcelain dolls that I kept mainly as decoration in my room as they were breakable so I never considered those as 'toys' so to speak.

    10. no i really disliked doll's as a child and when any family member bought me one i would usually ruin it by cutting its hair or drawing on it,
so it really surprised my family and me when i fell in love with bjd's

    11. YES ! OuO

my mumu had her own daycaRe when i was little so
we had lots of toyS ~ and barbies/and dolls were some of them~

i used to play barbie allot , had the barbie houses-cars-clothes-food
i even got my cousins that were boys intrested to play with me hahahaha

yup those were fun days ~ and id even say if i ever saw a cute set
of barbies and a toy houSe i might even play XD

      TOYS are AWESOME OuO

    12. The role playing aspect was what drew me towards any kind of toy figures as a child. I remember- actually I still do this- creating elaborate stories with playmobil toys, and making special characters for them. The thing that appealed to me about BJDs was a similar aspect of not just creating a character, but customizing every visual aspect as well. My interest in (role)playing with dolls has continued throughout my various hobbies, and the BJD hobby is no exception, basically it's what got me started.
So yes, I played with dolls.

    13. Yes, Barbies, I still have some of my Barbies. I didn't have many dolls as a child, just too poor, so what I had I took care of them and their clothes. So, here I am at 54 and still love my dolls.

    14. Yes. I still have all of my barbies and accessories, they're in one of those giant rubbermaid/tupperware tubs in the basement. I had a whole bunch of play sets and clothes for them too. I remember playing with them and having storylines, mostly domestic type stuff, and I changed their clothes up a lot.

    15. Yes, I had dolls. I had all the Playskool dolls when I was very little and barbies when I was a bit older. My favorites were the ones with bendy knees/ankles/wrists. But I have two brothers and while I'd wear a dress outside I'd run around in ninja turtle pajamas at night. I'd climb trees in my dress up heels. My little brother dismembered my Ken doll, and so I took his G.I Joe (and accessories) to be Barbie's new beau. They all drove around in his tank/SUV thing and my bendy barbie wore the grenade launcher swung around her back. I still have a lot of them. They have faces, I can't help it. I have all the stuffed animals I was allowed to keep and in high school, a cache of barbies was found in the art room (and promptly cut, glued, tortured), so I saved them. Floating heads and torn clothes. I was gentle with them though, even as a child. I rarely tore clothes or lost shoes or wrote on or cut hair, but when I gave most of them to my little cousins -_-. My grandma knows me and brought them back when the cousins outgrew them though. I have them all (kelly dolls especially) tucked away for one day.

But I had american girl dolls too- so the concept of expensive and delicate dolls has been ingrained into my head XD I still gasp inwardly when I see people taking their BJDs into dirt, lakes, sand, etc, though. And yes, I think my dollyness as a child is part of why I love my BJDs.

    16. As a kid I always had dolls all different types and can say I never really stopped liking or wanting them...now I only have bjds! but can remember being 10 years old and having a favorite tiny ball jointed doll that came from a doll house set..lost her one day at the dentist :( but now my girls make up for it and im 25 now!

    17. Now that I think about it...I guess I did lol. My mom bought me a Todd doll so I could play with my younger sister when she played with her barbies. I also remember playing with my Star Wars trooper action figures with my sister's barbie dolls. Her barbies didn't mind having really short boyfriends lol.

    18. I have many dolls and plushie when I was a child, and I like them all. I have barbies, animal dolls and plushies, plastic dollsand many other kind of doll.
Most of my childhood dolls are still remain here, especially animal dolls, and still accompany me in my bed~

    19. I had dolls when I was a kid. I played with Barbies, but my version of "play" was more dressing them up and doing their hair and putting them in elaborate scenes in my room. Very similar to how I play with dolls now, actually! XD And I had a Josephina American Girl Doll. I also had a few baby dolls, my favorites were "Pretty Baby," who I got for Christmas in preschool (no clue who made her), "Mara" (my Bitty Baby), and a little Coroelle named Marie Claire. And a handful of other smaller dolls and a LOT of stuffed animals.

I was lucky enough to grow up only a few blocks from Denver Doll's original location, so I used to ride my bike down and use my allowance to buy doll clothes from a big bin of used/vintage stuff. I once got a gorgeous little handmade/antique christening-type gown for 50 cents because that's all I had and the owner said it would be enough. Looking back, it was definitely worth more than 50 cents. They're just nice people. :)

I still have most of my dolls too, with the exception of the Barbies.

    20. This is exactly it for me as well. Not only was I interested in them for role playing but for the customizable aspect. I was so use to barbies and other dolls that all looked the same, often with fake grins, that Ifell hard for figures that could be customized to exactly match the images of characters in my head
