Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. I hated dolls as a kid only ones i played with was large realistic looking horses, batman and one barbie which was pregnant and had two babies hidden in her belly. As i think about it i always wanted more realism than dolls was able to offer and i was quiet into handmade things so maybe thats why i was so amazed by bjds and currently have one :)

    2. *blushes* yes I did :p I had GI Joes but I would kidnap my sisters barbies and turn them into awesome commando chicks and turn my guys into zombies with a red dry erase marker. Luckily she had the ones that had the articulated legs arms and torso. I liked cutting the hair too and customizing them in what limited ways I could. I think thats why I like BJDs because you can customize them so much. Its the same with me and video games the ones I really get into have some form of character customization :p

    3. To be honest i mutilated my sisters dolls. I set them on fire, poked pins in them, chopped off all their hair, put them in buckets of water and froze it, then dropped it off the second floor and watched it shatter.... On the rare occation i did play with them, they accompanied my lego as giant people. ... I think i was a morbid child.. lol.

    4. Yes, I have loved dolls and sewing all my life and have too many dolls now. :)

    5. Did you play with dolls as a child? Why or why not?
Nope. Pretty much never. I hated Barbie Dolls. I do remember though that I played with some of my pokemon figures.

If no, how did your lack of childhood dolliness effect your BJD hobby (did it make you feel self-conscious/etc)?
I don't think it effected me at all. I changed way too much since childhood. But I do sometimes wish I were more cautious. Maybe the reason why I'm not so cautious is because I haven't played with dolls a lot.

    6. I played Mommy with my baby dolls all thetime, but when it came to fashion dolls and Barbies, it was a little odd. I had several, lots of hand me down ones, hand me down clothes, furniture, etc from all my older cousins. And I took them out often, but I never really played with them. I'd dress them, style their hair, rearrange their furniture, pose them, set up little areas for them, but never actually plaaayed.

    7. I loved dolls when I was little xD I had 2 boxes full of Barbie's. I had like over 30 of them @_@
I played with them almost everyday and liked making dresses for them. I also had a porcelain doll but I was never too attached to it because it was so fragile and it didn't have as much dresses as the barbies.

    8. oh did i! i would set all my barbies up in my giant dollhouse and read to them and play house with them. sometimes i would let them all sleep on my bed.

    9. I sure did! I think I had about 50 barbies growing up, and I had an American Girl later on, but I was never into anything else beyond Barbie, like porcelain dolls or Bratz. I liked them because they were pretty....no other reason I can come up with besides that. I did get tired of them at one point though, I'd always wanted to find dolls that would match my character and still reflect some sort of personality, but I never could. At the time, I did know about OOAK dolls and repainting, I just always assumed if the doll exists, it would be at Toys R Us. My love for dolls fell dormant for several years, but it reawakened when I found work and started buying back my childhood favorites... which eventually led me to discover BJD's.

    10. Yes I did play with dolls as a kid. I still have all my childhood dolls.

    11. I was more of a tomboy as a child and didn't play with dolls really. I think I shocked myself a few years ago when I started getting interested in dolls and was a little self conscious about it.

    12. I didn´t play with dolls in my childhood, too. I hated "Barbies" and I hated colours like pink xD Only one "baby born" I liked and this doll was a boy :D So, I never believed that some day I would like dolls or the colour pink. I was a little rebel.
Now, I loved my dolls very much :D ...and I have a pink pc and a pink camera and pink boxes, and so on xDD
...i know, my friends are guilty. xDD :fangirl:

    13. I played with dolls as a little girl. Actually I was doll crazy and boy crazy so as an adult, I collect more boy dolls and prefer to sew for boy dolls...

    14. I only had a couple of "Barbie" dolls. I never really got into them as much because we were super poor & could never afford clothes or accessories for them (and all the original stuff tended to get thrown away). I mostly stuck to action figures, though I had a TON of them and played with them all the time.

    15. I was a huge tomboy yet had a weakness for barbies and always talked my guy friends into playing with me LOL. As I got older I started collecting others like Bratz and different dolls. I guess It's always been dolls for me.

    16. I always had 2 or 3 dolls growing up but was not one to 'play house' with dolls... I was a dress and redress kid... even with barbie... I didnt do the 'story' thing with dolls. I also only had a few barbies, doubt I ever had 5 at a time. The younger I was the more likely i was to play with hotwheels or 'farm sets'... the tiny ones where the tracktor was maybe an inch and a half at best. I do still have an old toy tracktor from the 40's (old heavy with real rubber tires). I still adore my tiny 'milk cans' that are maybe half an inch tall ^^... metal. cute as sin. I also only started to collect Barbie in my mid 20's... so I guess not a doll girl lol...

    17. I used to play with my Barbie dolls a lot, and I treated them very well. A lot of my friends would cut their Barbies' hair and draw on them and stuff like that, but i took care of my dolls and tried to keep them in a great condition.

    18. I have always loved dolls. I was never careful enough when it came to taking care of them so, I few heads rolled while I brushed their hair. I did my best.. When I saw pictures of BJDs I immediatelly fell in love with them but I thought I would never get one. I currently own 3 and I'm waiting on 2 more :)

    19. I have loved dolls all my life, even wanted "first love" so much when I was little I dreamt about her. Still have her plus cabbage patch, my child's. I did play with Barbie and sindy for a good few years. I seem to find other dolls I love at different stages of my life and collect. I have a varied collection :)

    20. I actually hated dolls with passion. The hatred was directed mostly towards Barbie & Bratz dolls, due to what I considered to be their ugly and unrealistic proportions. I had a bunch of stuffed toys, cars and motorcycles. Also ponies. I had like...30 at one time. I also had a huge collection of flocked horses (73 of them, to be exact).

When I moved out, I sold all my ponies and almost all of the horses simply because there was no space for so many toys in my apartment! xD
I inherited some antique porcelain dolls that belonged to some great-aunt or something, but I've never considered them to be playthings and have been taking care of them for almost 8 years now! ^.^ I guess that's when I started loving and appreciating dolls...
