Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. I did not like "humanshaped" toys as a child, i did have one barbie and some baby dolls but hardly played with them, in stead i prefered my little ponies, sylvanian families and softtoys :) I did however always have a fashination for antique dolls houses and minatures. Now I do prefer human dolls over antros but I seem to be drawn to dolls with fantasy features :)

    2. I personally remember saving money to buy Barbies - but the poor things ended up stripped, playing washcloth mermaid, naked action hero and whatever the hell else my cousins and I would come up with. I was heavily more a stuffed animal kid I think, and I really quickly rejected barbies and other dolls, possibly because it was so expected of me to like them. I think I got this out of the two porcelain dolls I was given as gifts though I can't remember ever wanting them. Ended up into video games and other things with a contempt for the girly.

So when I got into BJDs, I was terrified to tell my mom so I would have some one else to talk to about my slow saving XD I didn't want to hear about my prior thoughts with dolls! I was almost iffy getting into the hobby in the first place, that might have actually broken me out of it before my poor puki could even arrive. My dad still is confused by the college grad who has four dolls and sews for them even though it frustrates me to no end. I love bjds though, there is so much more to them than any other dolls I ever had. And maybe, seeing as the creative streak I eventually ended up in, they just ended up being the right thing~

    3. I was a pretty big fan of dolls when I was a child. I had a fairly large collection of Barbies and clothing. Then whenever I was into something 'new' I usually always had to have any corresponding dolls (movies etc.). Then I sort of took a break from dolls (since most of them were child styled Barbies) and I felt I was to old to play with them.

Then about a year after graduating from high school I came across BJDs and was immediately in love with them. It took about a year until I managed to get my first one, but since then, my love for dolls has only increased (as well as my collection of them).

    4. no lol

the only barbies i had lost their hair and were put in a bag never to be seen again xD

    5. I did play with dolls early on as a child, but ABJD's are in a completely new league.

    6. I played with my dolls, but then my friend showed me what an ABJD was. After that, my dolls went to the closet and I have wanted an SD10 since. I loved the idea of a BJD mainly because of the fact that you can change almost everything about them.

    7. never liked dolls of any sort growing up. I had tons of animals toys and stuffed animals but never dolls until having received a bjd. I was a wrassle around in the dirt and mud, climb trees, ride bikes, and play with animals with their own stories and make them "nature" houses sort of kid.

    8. YES!!!! And I made characters for them! So this hobby was just waiting for me :)

    9. This is kind of a funny question, because when I was growing up, I didn`t like the glass faced china dolls.. they were pretty eerie.. so I tended to stay away from them, but I did collect bratz and barbies and when monster high dolls came into the lime light, i`ve taken a shine to those as well, but my first ever experience with BJD was a couple of years ago, they were pretty cool, I was interested, but I kinda stayed away from the hobby for a while, I was busy with work and just daily life, in the last couple of years i`ve been pretty much hoarding every possible thing I could hoard to me, pictures, BJD websites, it just exploded for me. Here I was shell shocked and kinda went with the flow of things, but looking back at it, I was pretty big into barbie dolls and the like, so I guess it wasn`t all that different for me to like BJD.

    10. Yes! I've adored any kind of miniature thing ever since I can remember. I owned a small doll house, model cars, polly pocket, sylvanian families, one or two barbies, a fair few bratz and one American Girl doll, listing it all now I sound so spoilt, but all of my more expensive things were gifts from relatives. (and being an only child helps)

I remember looking at dolls and doll-houses all the time on our dial-up internet. I've just always been fascinated by dolls and miniatures!

    11. I've always loved dolls! As I child Barbie's were my favorites, I still have some of my old dolls now although I don't play with them anymore but they are nice to have around to remind me of my childhood. I used to make them be different characters and play lots with them with my sister it was like having a miniature doll world. We would make to dolls do everything we had doll Olympics, we made them go shopping, travel by car and airplane on holiday, they went to dolly church I remember when my mum bought a doll house for them, I fixed it up with little furniture pieces and made them live like human beings and I loved dressing them up and doing their hair. I think that what I love most about dolls the fact that the are like miniature people. :3nodding:

    12. No, not really. I had a lot of animal toys (soft toys and plastic animals):) Funny that my daughter also prefers animal toys, however she has a couple of dolls.

    13. I had Barbies since I was little and played with them up into middle school. :P

    14. I never played with dolls.. I hater Barbies and actually I ripped their heads off.. Plushies ftw! They're much cuter and huggable :D
People might remember those Baby Born- baby dolls.. they're creepy, all baby like dolls are creepy tbh.

The actual dolls I liked was those porcelain dolls and if I remember right, one doll had dark brown hair and another had blonde hair.
I might be wrong, since it's been years (over 10) when I saw them last time.
Parent's been wondering, that how I can like these BJD dolls, because I was scared of those Barbies and baby dolls.. BJD's are more beautiful and I like that how they can be customized. :3 And I just like that how normal some of them look, with normal waist and such.

    15. I have always loved baby dolls since I was about 3 yrs old :) When I was older I collected porcelain dolls & about 4 yrs ago I discovered reborns, silicone & resin dolls. It was belonging to doll forums for these, that I discovered BJD's. At first I never liked them but the more I saw them, the more I grew to love them :D I love the way that they can be customised & think it's awesome how one doll can look like many different ones just by changing the wig or eyes :)

    16. Yes! I have such fond memories of them. My friends and I would spend hours acting out little scenarios. At sleepovers, we would spend almost all night dressing and playing with our dolls ^_^ on occasion, we would bring them to school, too :XD:

    17. I have played with dolls all my life and I am 62 and have no plans to stop. I was teased about it in jr high school, so I kept it a secret. But when you get older you don't care what people think anymore. :)

    18. My parents would buy me barbies as a child. After playing with them for a day, they were shoved into a cupboard, only to be forgotten. The only time I ever took them out to play with them, were to sew clothes :). I think I was about 6 or 7 maybe? I hated porcelain dolls and any type of baby dolls. I was afraid of them. Too many scary stories of dolls talking without batteries. And this was around the time when chucky came out.

    19. I didn't like dolls at all. I had like two Barbies, but just 'cause I get them as birthday presents. I was more into animal figures/toys. : >
But I liked to do my barbies hair and sometimes dress up them. : >

    20. My first doll was an amosandra that my father brought me back from US....that was a long time ago ! Since then I've been collecting all sorts of dolls and now am saving desperatly slowly to have a Layla and it might be the beginning of a bjd collection !
