Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. I used to like mermaid dolls when I was little  aww I was just reminded of that now I'm gonna have to get a mermaid BJD
I used to have a HUGE bucket full of barbies and I curse the day my mother gave it away because there was sO MANY OUTFITS IN THERE!!!
Ah, but at least it went to a little girl who enjoys it.

    2. I played with everything, cars, cops and robbers but I loved my My Child Doll and barbies. Wanting to replace my My Child doll got me into Blythes and now BJD

    3. I loved Barbie dolls when I was a child! I played with them all the time and I had so many of them. I also had a lot of clothes and funiture that I made with my big sister. :D

    4. I played with dolls til I was about 15- although I started being private about it when I was 13 or so, though. Now, though, I can play with them all I want again!

    5. when i was a kid, i used to play with barbie dolls and action figurines. i would make up stories for them.

    6. So. Did you play with dolls as a child?

      Yeah, I had Barbies.

      Why or why not?

Originally just because my parents bought them for me. I actually hated the look of Barbies, but I had fun cutting their hair, beheading them, making them hideous clothes out of leftover fabric I found or clothes I'd outgrown, and giving them characters/backstories. I could sit and have them act out stories for hours. I wish stuff like that still appealed to me (only with BJDs rather than Barbies).

If yes, did your childhood love of dolls get you into BJDs or was it something else?

No, not at all. Gothic Lolita fashion is what got me into BJDs. I ignored dolls completely for over 10 years before I got my first BJD. I randomly saw a Volks doll when browsing Ebay for dresses, and then wanted one for years. I thought BJDs were too expensive and collected Pullips for about 6 months before getting my first BJD.

    7. So. Did you play with dolls as a child?

Not really... I mean, I always loved tiny things and building miniature cities populated by figurines and stuff, I guess that's kind of similar?

      Why or why not?

Barbies did nothing for me. Other kinds of dolls like cabbage patch kids etc just plain grossed me out. I could not begin to understand anyone liking them.

If yes, did your childhood love of dolls get you into BJDs or was it something else?

My love of BJDs honestly blossomed out of nothing. When I realized I had secretly liked them for many years, ie seeing photos of them on dA, it was like discovering a hidden piece of my identity xD; I love fashion, and making characters, and to me dolls are like adorable little avatars that you can hold and coddle and make cute tiny things for... So now it just makes sense to me. Admittedly I do have a pink, sparkly girly streak in my surliness...

    8. I played Barbies a lot as a child, but I wouldn't say that they were my favorite toy. I had (still have) 3 American girls and one bitty baby. When I was 12 or 13 I started hand sewing jointed dolls because I wanted to customize my own doll. I did that for several years until I found pullips and started saving, which escalated when I found bjds. Now currently working on getting my 3rd bjd XD my favorite thing is making and having tons of clothes for my dolls, which I've been doing for years.

    9. I loved playing with dolls as a child. I still have most of my childhood dolls. I have always loved dolls!

BJD collecting was the next phase in my doll collecting. I know I will never outgrow it or get bored with it.

    10. I used to play with Barbies. I remember finding a barbie case with like 3 or 4 barbies and a bunch of clothes in my sister's room. I thought it was so cool, cause I never knew she had them. So i started playing with them and my mom caught me. I got in trouble for taking my sister's things, and scolded because boys dont play with barbies.

    11. Oh man ... I can't stand it when parents do that. Our neighbors had two kids, one girl, one boy - and the boy had more barbies than us three girls together. Kids should be allowed to play with whatever they want. After all, before they moved in and we became friends with them, my sister and I only ever played with our cousins' old matchbox cars and plastic animals and wouldn't give dolls a second look ...

    12. I liked the little Fisher Price people with round heads, especially the farm and school. And I had a Raggedy Ann I dearly loved.

    13. yes I played with dolls as a child....I've always loved them.

    14. I used to play with dolls when I was a kid but I tended to snap the necks off barbies. Now cause I'm in the bjd hobby I now like them again.

    15. I loved my dolls as a child. I hated Barbie dolls though. I adored my Disney Barbie dolls because they were each painted uniquely. I'm certain my love of Disney "barbie" dolls as a child has something to do with my current love for BJDs. I got into this hobby because of Marina Bychova who does the porcelain Enchanted Dolls. After discovering her work via Tumblr I became interested in BJDs in general.

    16. I played with dolls as a child, but mostly barbies and those dolls like looked like babies. xD It always bothered me that all the barbies my relatives kept giving me were blonde and super white. I think that me being in the BJD hobby is just an extension of what I wanted in the past (i.e. having male dolls, different skin tones, different skin colors, being able to customize them). Though now I can't stand those baby dolls (totally not because of Chucky), because they creep me out. xP

    17. I loved my Barbies. I also had a doll that could turn into a cupcake, and I liked her a lot.
But I never liked baby dolls much. I wasn't really into pretending I was a mother.

    18. I sometimes played with barbies before. I had 18 of them. 12 were my parent's gift, 4 were dolls i got when i was outside the country and the other 2 were gifts from friends. although i had a couple, i never liked barbie dolls. i preferred toys with movable joints and has assemble parts (you know, barbies didn't have joints). i remembered playing with robots and gundam toys my brother had. then i skipped to collect some vintage puppet dolls before.

    19. Yes I had American Girls, Barbies, Bratz, etc. I was very into creating whole identities for my dolls and I would always play with them silently, giving them dialog in my mind. I do think this has a lot to do with my doll addiction as an adult. But I have always enjoyed my dolls just as much as my hot wheels and toy guns. I was a mix of a tom boy and a princess.

    20. I loves to play with dolls as a child! All kinds of dolls, especially Barbies. I love stuffed animal doll as well ><
I've always been a doll person as far as I know.
