Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

1. I was a Bratz kid. I wish they had monster high dolls when I was a kid though! I found baby dolls creepy though.

2. Yes, I did have Barbies, My Scene Dolls (the old ones, not the ones that resemble Monster High Dolls that are advertised now), and Bratz when I was younger. I didn't collect or anything extreme like that. I just loved to play with them, especially the Mermaid Barbies that had their fins move up and down when you squeezed their hips. (: I think I had three of them or at least two. ^^ My young love for normal dolls didn't really go toward my love for BJDs now. I just randomly happened to find pictures of BJDs online one day when randomly surfing the web. Then I found them to be quite interesting and did more research on them. Overall, my childhood life of having dolls doesn't really at all correlate with my BJD hobby now.
:whee:

3. Wen I was a child I had sooo many dolls ! I played with my brother who had some "action man" and we had a big barbie house with an elevator ! I don't know if you can just imagine the big thing that was this elevator, this was crazy !! We were just putting a doll into it and make her go downstairs/ upstairs/ dowstairs so much fuuuun ! xD

4. As a male, that would be pretty inconvenient :) but nonetheless I liked them, and we had some cross-character stories with my female cousin, playing with barbies and action men :)

5. I have always hated dolls, even as a small child. I remember liking three Barbies in total out of the hundred or so that found their way into our abode, and thinking Bratz were okay, due to their aesthetic (I never owned any though). But action figures and posability have been my forte from the beginning; BJDs combine realism (Or cartoon and fantasy) with good flexibility in both the physical and emotional ranges. The only non action figure or stuffed animal I can remember kind of liking was Polly Pocket, because they used to do creative and interesting things with that line. Plus, Polly and friends were a nice size for taking anywhere. But I still prefer Transformers and Star Wars.
arbies were boring and dumb, but Ninja Turtles were awesome! We had a bunch of Littlest Pet Shop animals and more than a few dinosaurs, including a Godzilla that I mistook for a T-Rex.
Also, word to GiggleBoots! Ninja Turtles and Godzilla were the bomb way back when! So were Gargoyles, Spiderman, X-men, and Nightmare on Elm Street.

6. I didn't play with many dolls. My sister had most of the barbies. I only had one skipper doll I loved to death (still have her) and a ken doll I glued hair to, to make a huge lumberjack beard. (barbies are super customizable) I mostly had Grand Champions. They were extremely detailed horse figures. Sadly they don't make them anymore.

7. I really liked playing with dolls when I was little. I had baby dolls, bratz, barbies, and an american girl doll. They were my favorite thing to play with my little sister.

8. I had some dolls along with trucks and all sorts of toys. I wouldn't say they were my favorite, but I enjoyed them. I just got my first BJD now at 37, so there wasn't a lot of influence there. I just fell in love with them when a friend starting collecting them.

9. No.. none at all. Did not care for them. Barbie? No freakn' way!
Now I have close to 30 at age 63.
I'm a late bloomer?

10. I had a few barbies when I was very young, but I outgrew them fast, and then didn't care for dolls at all until I discovered BJDs.

11. I played with dolls when I was a child, but they were always baby dolls. I only remember two other kinds of dolls. One was a little, 10-12 inches tall, plastic girl, always dressed in a fancy ball gown with a very large puffed out skirt. They came in a box with a plastic window in them. The other doll was a Betsy McCall doll. I never had any Barbie dolls. I think they came out in the late 50s or early 60s and I was already in high school. I wouldn't have been a Barbie fan had I been younger. I didn't have anything to do with dolls until after I retired and had some extra time to pursue my other interests. I became interested in BJDs through my love of making 3D paper model figurines and trying to learn a variety of 3D computer graphic programs, so I could design my own. Many of the models I have made are of characters from anime movies or stories. They look quite like BJDs but are intricately made out of paper.

12. Growing up with 3 sisters meant having LOTS of Barbie dolls. But just as much as I loved Barbie, I loved LEGO and action figures. For me it was the idea of playing different people. And with the Barbies - I mostly spend time dressing each up in full outfits and placing them around my dollhouse (and that was it, I only really played with the dolls when together with friends).

13. I have two younger sisters so dolls were pretty much a standard in our house. I, myself, only ever owned one baby doll which I absolutely loved. He was a little baby boy and I cared for him as if he was real when I was young. I bought him baby clothing from stores I went with my mother. She picked out my clothes and I picked out his clothes, haha~ I also had a little crib for him where he slept and made sure he had nothing to complain about.

Even as I grew up (16y+) I still felt so attached to that doll in my room. Off course I felt too self-conscious to still 'play' with him but sometimes I still changed his clothes and tidied him up for a change of scenery. He's still in perfect shape in a box hidden away so my partner's children wouldn't mess him up. It sounds silly but he's special to me, not a toy to pass on to my children.

I also had barbies but those weren't very interesting for me so I quickly dispatched those over to my younger sisters. When I turned 24 my boyfriend bought me a Pullip doll for my birthday which actually made me cry. It was the first time I actually got a birthday present from anyone and he actually got something that meant a lot to me even if I was 'too old to play with dolls'. The year after that he bought me Dal for my birthday which once again I cried about because I was so happy. I guess that kind of started the hobby for me.

I'm really excited to get further into the hobby as I get my first resin BJD.

14. I never liked dolls until I was older, I never hung out with girls or people who would play with dolls really. When I did star to like dolls my mom would go on ebay and get me Takara Jenny dolls. Later, when I was about 10 I discovered Volks bjds and while she didn't want to buy me one of them money wise, she got me a momoko I'd been really wanting (I kept her in very good condition and she hangs out with my bjds now ^_^) I ended up ordering one of the smaller dollfies from volks and accidentally ordered a volks wig in the wrong size (1/4 msd size) which I used a year later when I got my first bjd!

I don't really still have many "other" dolls. I would consider getting more momokos because I really like their faces and they have such a good personality. I also mod, paint and re-root monster high dolls. I wish they were around when I was a child because I would have played with them! I also love how some of them have changeable parts and hair allowing people to make their dolls to their liking. Also if I may add that the monster high tv show is REALLY well made. I love the characters and the plots! And how everyone is so diverse and the differences are celebrated.

I'm mostly 100% dedicated to bjds. They're the perfect dolls for me! The only problem I have is there's never enough money to dedicate to my dolls!

15. I was a tomboy for sure, but I will say that the boys and I had a deal. We would romp in the mud, catch minnows, ride bikes, play baseball and kickball all day...but there were consequences. The next day was baby doll and barbie day! XD And it worked too. I've always collected and loved dolls. It's a family thing with the women in my family. None of us are girly, but it's like ever ounce of our girliness is contained in our love of dolls. I played with baby dolls until I was about 7, and barbies from birth until I was 13-14. I'd have my few girl friends over and we'd play out stories for hours. XD The boys would play daddy to the babies or play the Ken dolls. My parents said I was magical the way I got the boys to cooperate. I think they just thought I was cool because I'd get all covered in dirt and rough with them, then con them into some crazy doll scheme. I had probably over 100 barbies and still have them all in a tote at my parent's house. Bratz and Monster High didn't exist yet. I collected the original Bratz line (gave them to my little cousin later because I just couldn't get into them), but OMG I love Monster High. I'd have peed myself with joy if those had existed when I played with them. I do collect them now though as a well-adjusted adult. >> Me and my 8 year old cousin have a contest of who can collect the most MH. She's beating me by 48. -_-

I do think my love of barbies and baby dolls and MH is what made it okay in my mind to get into the BJD hobby. More dolls to collect! I saw some pictures and couldn't help think how crazy I'd have been if they'd existed when I was a child. I know they aren't really kids toys, but I was so gentle and took south pains with all my dolls I know I could've handled it. The customization just hits the spot. So it was a no brainer when I started collecting. With my artistic background it just made sense. <3

16. I didn't like barbie dolls and as a child growing up my family didn't really have the money to buy toys, but I did get them as special gifts for my birthday. I never played with them normally, I was an oddball and would pretend to "paint" on the walls with my barbies and use them as paint brushes xD I never drew on the walls or used real paint, my mom made sure I knew not to do that . n .'''

17. when i was under 9 i hated them.. i would kill my sisters lol..tho 10 and up i had tons of barbies. i loved them.
my love for dolls as a kid never really had anything to do with me liking BJDs now. i love BJDs for many reasons. they are so much more then barbies. i feel they are dolls for grown ups.. cuz i kow i would never let me kids play with them... ever lol.. maybe if my daughter wanted her own.. then she can have a cheaper one..

18. I used to own Barbies but I never played with them very much. I was into Polly Pocket dolls for a short period of time (Dreaded rubber clothing! Although it was nice playing in water with), and then Bratz dolls.

I never really played with my dolls a lot as a kid though, it was more of a way to kill time here and there randomly. I was more into writing and watching TV...:sweat

19. Yes! I loved dolls particularly Barbies when I was young. I actually never grew out of this love but my parents forced me to give away my dolls and grow up. I grew up thinking it's unnatural for grownups to own dolls. Even if this is the case, I can't help but take a peek on the dolls each time I pass by the toy section of our local mall. Anyway, to cut the story short, I found out about BJDs on a certain site and fell in love once more because of its customizability and also as it is targeted towards adults. With BJDs, I feel as though I can relive my childhood once more. :)

20. I had a lot of animal toys, especially Grand Champion horses and other smaller horses with riders and stables and all kinds of stuff. I had barbies and a baby doll (Baby Born) when I was younger but wasn't really a fan of them, I preferred stuffed animals and horses.

Even now my main interest is the customization and aesthetics.
