Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. I played with dolls as a child around the age of 12 to 14 when my dad made me a doll house and I received a bratz doll for christmas. I loved my dolls dearly but once entering high school I stopped playing with them to seem more mature. i wish so much I still had my dolls for my child hood but now I love them so much I don't care what anyone thinks.

    2. I played with dolls as a child...probably until I was "too old." :XD:
I'm glad I found a place where I can play with dolls as an adult too!

    3. Absolutely! I have always loved them. I have had them most of my life.

    4. I did, I had a lot of dolls and it also sort of got me into BJDs too :)
Back then there were a few webpages with 1/6 dolls cosplaying as j-rockers, I was part of a forum on asian music and others were discussing these dolls, most of these dolls were Volks so I looked up their site and eventually saw that they also made these bigger dolls called Super Dollfie.

I also recently restored my favourite Barbie doll from my childhood, that is actually a Midge, and is currently displayed in a cabinet with my other similar sized dolls including some BJDs.

    5. please delete^^

    6. I had some barbies but I didn't like them very much. I hated that squeaky sound they made when you moved the legs and their dumb squishy heads. Mostly, they just sat in a box under my bed. However, I really liked the barbie clothes, especially the dresses. It's a little weird, but I used to pretend that the clothes were the soul of the barbie and would have them float around and do things all ethereal and whatnot, lol. It got to the point that my parents would only buy barbie clothes for me and not the doll.
I did, however, like a lot of action figures. I had a lot of power ranger and sailor moon action figures that I adored. I still have my favorite Sailor Neptune doll :aheartbea I'm not sure my reason for getting into bjds was because of these. Although maybe action figures is what got me into collecting things in general and have an appreciation for cute little characters that could pose really well.

    7. I did have dolls as a kid - although, I never really interacted with them. I just really like things that are pretty. :sweat

    8. I liked playing with dolls and making clothes for them when i was little, later i used to make rag dolls and plushies just for fun, i keep doing them until i found about bjds.

    9. I didnt really play with dolls, it was more teddy bears i played with, not sure why, but now im all dolls dolls dolls and teddy bears lol

    10. Totally. being an only child and the only girl in my mom's circle of friends, I got new dolls for every occasion/visit. I remember picking out fabric scraps from my grandmother's fabric box (she was a seamstress) and designing clothes for my favorite ones, then watching (hovering :P) as my grandma made them. ahh the good times!!

    11. I loved playing with dolls as a child until I was eight years old, when my mum's best friend (who was studying psychology) told her that I was "too old" for dolls. I was devastated, but during my teen years I secretly bought and collected them. Now as an adult, I have a huge collection of lots of different dolls and I still play with them today!

    12. I did play with Barbies when I was younger (until I was 12 years?? something like that) But they weren't my absolute favorite.
So I don't think that they got my into BJD's. Let alone that there were quite a few years between my Barbies and the BJD's. But the dressing up and styling there here was my favorite part.

    13. No, my sister used to have all kinds of fashion dolls, but never liked any of it, I have only liked the fashion royalty outfits, then one year ago I saw the discontinued Moxie Teenz dolls and fall in love with how customizable they are and how their eyes look like, then one thing led to another I landed on BJDz :D

    14. As a child i was never really insterested in dolls. I really loved stuffed animals (and still do) bit that was probably my obsession with animals. Barbies irritated me becasue their hair was stringy and their plasic skin wouldnt ever allowpants or shirts to be put in. I also didnt like how they didnt move, they just stood very straight and didnt have any other face than a huge smile. Dont get me wrong, now i like fashion dolls, but as a child i didnt at all. Later when i was about ten i got samantha, a american girl doll, and thats what turned me into a doll loving woman i am today haha. I took her EVERYWHERE. Not joking. And when i was "too old to play with dolls i put her up" a few years back i took her out, smiled, and set her on my bed. i discovered ball jointed dolls about a year and a half ago and felt like I could finally be me again. Now i have a list a mile long of 400+ dolls i want, like everyone else here hahaha:sweat:aheartbea

    15. I actually hated dolls as a child. Completely despised them. I turned instead towards plushies (to this day I still cant resist a cute plushy), dinosaurs, and matchbox cars as a kid. Barbies and baby dolls for some reason just never had an appeal. It also didn't help that all of my family members persisted into trying to 'convert' me into a more normal little girl by buying me dolls for every event and holiday all growing up until I was in middle school. I learned how to smile and say thank you to not hurt their feelings, while my mom would smile sympathetically knowing i didn't like my present from my grandma/cousin/aunt you name it. And when I'd get home, I'd just toss the box on the floor or put it in the attic. unopened.
Eventually that came in handy though, when my mom (single mother of 2 at the time) was struggling, and sold all of my rare collectibles & seasonal-all unopened
to pay off our rent for months lol. so i guess they were useful in the end ;)
Other than that, dolls since have always given me the creeps .__.

But i really got into art, asian street fashion, and makeup in high school. I had even considered majoring in art. And then i found these BJDs. And wow.
To me they don't even categorize as a doll. Their slimmer builds and delicate features (final fantasy-ish haha) definitely grabbed my attention (as opposed to the American Barbie and Ken). They definitely appeal to me as an aesthetic sculpture and are breathtakingly beautiful. The customization abilities are endless and speaks to my creative side.
Most of all they simply make me want to pick up a pencil and draw again <3
And the best part is- they don't give me the creeps lol

    16. I played with various dolls until I was 13 and my mom told me, "It's time to put away your dolls and grow up." I thought it was silly thinking then and looking back, I still do. My girls live the reverse, I told them they can play with their dolls as long as they want, as long as they are being responsible with their priorities and life obligations. This has worked out well and my girls love their dolls and we often play together. :)

    17. I started collecting Gen2 My Little Pony dolls when I was 4 years old. They were my favorite things in the world. Unfortunately by the time I was 14 I decided mom could just give them away... Hmph. Still kinda mad about that. Not sure if they count as dolls, per se, but that was about all I would play with until I got into computer games.

My fascination with BJDs came mostly with being in awe over their beauty and the amazing pictures people would take of them. I've always loved their artistic aspect best. Not to mention that the thought of being able to fully shell characters was just way too tempting to pass up!

    18. I absolutely loved dolls as a child. I mainly had barbie dolls, and the lady next door used to make them clothes. I still have some barbie dolls. I also had a Chrissie doll. I'm a bit old so I'll add that Chrissie had magical hair, ... you could make it grow and then with a push of a button it would retract in her head.
Well I cut her hair and was totally horrified when it would NOT grow back. I didn't like her so much after that!

My two girls hated dolls growing up, and still do :(

    19. I had dolls when I was a child, but I never played with them much. I occassionally played with Barbies, but other dolls actually creeped me out. Instead of dressing a doll and putting it in a stroller, I used my stuffed animals :).

    20. I had over 80 barbies and around 50 bratz.
Everything stayed in the old house when we moved out
