Did you play with dolls as a child?

Mar 3, 2012

    1. I always liked playing barbie...but honestly I don't really like the doll type anymore

When I was really little I had a livesized baby doll named "Anja-baby" - I remember dragging her everywhere. And i really loved dressing her..... and the cat :XD:

    2. "Anja-Baby"? I never heard of such a doll - and my first name is Anja... I have to look up that doll.
I played with my baby-doll, two bigger toddler-dolls and my sunshine family. I didn't get Barbies as my mother strongly dislikes them. Buying and playing with Barbies and Monster Highs brought me into this hobby. I stumbled over a pic of a LittleFee Ante in another forum and developed a strong desire for BJDs.

    3. :kitty1:XD: no wait! - okay maybe that was a bit misleading: "Anja-Baby" was the name I gave her, not her brand - sadly I don't know what her brand was... but she was mostly like this one: (btw I still think Anja is a very pretty name)

    4. Ha, that's me! I was just as sweet as a baby! XD

    5. Oh I loved Barbie as a child, I was all about the horses and the carriages and the princess outfits. I cherished them though they got donated to an orphanage when my family moved. I just hope they're making other kids as happy as they made me (though we shall never speak of the haircutting fiasco that taught me a harsh lesson - never, ever cut a doll's hair if you don't know what you're doing).

    6. I played with barbies at first, but when I was about six, I started collecting bratz instead. Barbies felt too "normal" for me.
Thats why BJDs are so perfect. You can make them into anything you want.

    7. I HATED dolls actually. I played only with stuffed animals. funny how I ended up being in love with BJD's later in life hahaha

    8. Nope,I wasn't keen on playing with dolls, but I really loved sewing clothes for my friends' dolls:)As a child I had only one doll tucked away on a shelf,I used to give away the rest of them to my friends or my sister :hug:couldn't care less about them plastic dolls:).Look at me now :dance:lol: I wonder if I would have reacted differently to BJD dolls ...By the way I make soft dolls these days as well and I love it :loveso, nothing stays the same, although I feel that my love for BJDs is solid :aheartbea

    9. I myself was never really big on the baby doll scene. Yes, I DID play with them, but Iw asn't a parenting type. I much preferred Barbies. Being able to dress them up, build elaborate houses, create families. I liked the creative aspect of Barbie. I would have liked bratz too, had they not shown up when I was getting out of my doll playing stage and into my awkward teenage stage of not being able to identify who I was. xD

    10. I had a few barbies growing up, most were gifts from relatives since we were too poor for toys when I was a kid. Instead of dressing up my dolls though I ended up using them like paint brushes xD I wouldn't use real paint, I'd just pretend I was painting the walls--which resulted in a lot of popped off barbie doll heads . u .''

    11. I had a few barbies and horses, but personally was not all into them terribly. Unless it was a rainy day or I needed someone to talk to. Otherwise I was out on my bicycle or playing in mud. :)
But it wasn't until about four or five years ago I got into BJDs. There's something that just hits all the things I like. Painting, sewing, photography. It's more than just "playing" with them. At least they're far more customizeable than BJDs. (To be honest though, I do have two monster high dolls that were splurges. I do plan on customizing those though.)

    12. nope I was a real tomboy I used to cut my sisters dolls hair and cover them in nail varnish she threatens to do the same to my bjds but she wouldn't dare

    13. I had a Sindy phase when I was about 10 years old but that didn't last very long. I grew up on a farm and preferred real animals to dolls.

    14. When I was really little I'd ask for Barbies for every possible occasion, but I kind of grew out of it as I got older. Though I don't think the doll obsession ever really left, as evidenced by my secret obsession when I was "too old for Barbies", and the amount of different dolls I currently have XD

    15. Yes! XD Barbie, Bratz, Polly Pocket, Littlest Pet Shop (they count ! I loved them so much orz). I like the Ever After and Monster High dolls nowadays, giving them to kids I know is fun ^^.
My Dad had gotten me two porcelain, I think, with cloth dolls when I was younger, I still have them and they don't look too bad for having been (not) taken care of by a kid.

    16. no, I was a quite odd child. My grandfather had a anathomy book for doctors and it was my favorite play toy.

    17. I loved all my dolls.
I don't think I have ever stopped playing with them haha!

    18. I always loved dolls, I had a baby doll which I called Lucy from age 3 to 7 when my parents decided I was getting too old to refuse to go to sleep without her. After that I mostly played with my big sisters barbies. When bratz arrived in our
country I was dying to get one, interestingly enough my fav was Chloe XD, but I only got one after they stopped being popular and I got a very bland side character looking one :sweat I think this constant liking of dolls might have lead up to me liking/loving bjds.

    19. Honestly, no, I never did. There's all sorts of crazy reasons behind it but suffice to say, as a child I was terrified of them because I watched Child's Play when I shouldn't have and was far too young. I was terrified I'd get murdered by them after that. @_@

Unfortunately my family thought my fear of dolls (well into my teens) was funny and would put scary looking ones in my room at night and move them around while I was sleeping. My mom used to draw little footprints on the car windows when I was little and would tell me Chucky (from Child's Play) was coming to kill me so I was pretty traumatized by them.

So no, I never played with dolls. I don't know what changed - it was probably me getting older and realizing how silly it was that did it. I only recently started collecting BJDs in February after spending years wanting one but being too afraid to do it because I was embarrassed about being an adult that finally wants to play with dolls. My boyfriend finds the hobby a little weird too and while he's quiet about it, it's just awkward and uncomfortable to talk about the hobby with him and I do end up feeling self conscious, haha.

    20. I hated dolls!! ;) I was always an animal lover, so it was stuffed animals all the way for me!
