1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Different Brand or Single Brand BJD Collector?

Mar 31, 2021

    1. My current 3 are all from the same company which wasn't really a deliberate choice, it just kind of happened. If I get more in future I'd like to branch out to different companies just for some variety.

    2. I buy different brands, but I realized that all of my BJDs are from Korea! I think I am more drawn to the doll styles from Korean artists. I love their sense of aesthetics.

    3. I particularly have only been into Volks brand but I am starting to venture into looking at different artists. I would like to get into custom dolls

    4. Right now, I have 2 Angell Studio dolls - one SD and one MSD. But, I just purchased a Fairyland doll. I also purchased a LoongSoul doll, but it was cancelled because it resembled a Chinese character too closely.

    5. I like having them from multiple brands, but I do have a ton from one particular company, because really the aesthetics of their sculpts.

    6. In my group of 27 dolls I have 24 brands represented. I think I have more Volks than any other brand since I default to their bodies for a lot of hybrids, DearSD, SD, SD13, SD16 and SD17. Second most is Dollshe, also due to using more bodies for Hybrids.

Fingers crossed my next purchase will add another brand to the group.

    7. Mostly a one brand collector but I have others as well. My collection is mostly Volks, but as I find their recent releases less interesting, maybe turning elsewhere?...

In addition to Volks I have Customhouse, Luts, Angelregion, Alchemic Labo, Iplehouse, Spiritdoll, Bimong and most recently Dollshe...

    8. I’m just starting out but I like too many from different companies to stay with one brand. I think I’d like to keep similar looks together in separate displays when I get more though.

    9. I started with Volks, which makes up the majority of my collection. This is followed by Obitsu, Azone, VMF50, Yamato, Smart Doll, SQ-lab & rounded out by some miscellaneous vinyl /resins. I feel the longer you are around the hobby, the more exposure you get to different brands.

    10. I have a big mix of different companies and different sizes too - I'm usually not looking into how well they look with each other, as I rotate them for display anyway.

I have a slight preference for Souldoll - being the first company I bought from, and I often find their dolls to be to my taste - but I like checking out different types of bodies and sculpting etc. too much to just stick to one company.

    11. I don't see any reason for myself to stick to one single company, to be honest, although I can see why some people might prefer it this way.

I myself have a company whose style I like the best, but I like other companies as well and if I really like a doll, the company is the last thing I look at (if at all)

    12. I collect different brands but I’m heaviest on Alchemic Labo dolls, they have always been my favorite and I want at least 3 more full dolls and a few more hybrids too. I have more than 2 dolls from both Volks and Souldoll. The rest are 2 or less from any one company. Some companies I only like for their bodies/posing to make my hybrids and don’t like any of their head sculpts at all. :sweat

    13. I stick to a few companies because I like my dolls that belong to the same universe to look good together and the easiest way to ensure that is staying with the same company for each separate universe. I also sometimes get a doll just because I think it is pretty and would be a nice display piece.

    14. This is fun to read! In the beginning, I too was pretty confident I’d only be collecting from one brand... but the more involved in the community I got, the more dolls were brought to my attention! It’s really hard to commit to one brand for me now because I love art, so I love seeing all these beautiful dolls that the artists create!
My collection started with dust of dolls but since then I’ve added, kinoko juice, soom petit gems, and soon to be popovy <3

    15. I don't have an intention to keep to specific brands as such, but in looking at aesthetics and sizes I particularly enjoy at the price points I'm trying to keep to, that does narrow down the field significantly. I can definitely see myself having more dolls that come from the same companies just for those reasons in the future.

    16. I have a tendency to collect Fairyland dolls because I love the aesthetic but I'm not opposed to getting dolls from other companies. My first doll was my Bobobie Isabella, for instance, and I've got two Mystic Kids as well. I never wanted to stick with one company however, I just go with what I like. However, I learned that I don't like the mix of hyper realistic features and exaggerated ones in my dolls so I tend to stick to the latter style more than to a specific company.

    17. My collection currently consists of 5 from one artist, with a 6th on preorder, and a few other dolls from different artists/companies. I wanted to stick with just one artist, but I like too many different styles for that. If I had to dwindle my collection down (which we are going to be moving in a few months so I may have to) then I would probably just stick to the one artist, as those are my favorites, and they are small enough where they don't take up a lot of space, but aren't too tiny either.

    18. Interesting question! while I have 9 of my crew from Elfdoll, and would not hesitate to buy more of the lovely critters, it seems that I have 6 companies from whom I have only one doll.

    19. I started with other companies (B&G, Luts/CP, Fairyland) but once I got my first Volks, it was hard keeping dolls from other companies. It’s not just the aesthetic but also the feel and weight, that ‘something’ that’s hard to define. Now most of my dolls are Volks. I do have a Fairyland puki and two AileenDoll dragons, but when it comes to the bigger dolls, I’m just not satisfied with the feel of other brands (even if I do adore looking at photos of them).

    20. I’m a one brand girl, contradictory to most people here lol. I’m just a very matchy matchy person, and I like my dolls to have a similar look and share clothes.
