DIM Tom Hiddleston Discussion Thread

Feb 15, 2013

    1. Okay, that might just push me into figuring out how Taobao works! Very nice.

    2. I can see Luken cosplaying Loki. Somewhere in the not too distant future ... I think ...

    3. This is interesting. Much of what they sell I recognize from Tata's Paradise who I buy quite a bit from. Maybe they are their ebay shop or a dealer? The outfit doesn't look to bad. I would want to change a few things like the red on the pants though. I would also like the gold armor to be a bit more detailed/accurate but it could be changed over. I may write to them as they say they do customize. I will let you know what they say.
On another note I bought a suit for my Loki which arrived today. I am also waiting to hear from a seller on etsy about making a scarf like the one Hiddles wears in the avengers. She said she can get the material design scaled down to his size and is going to let me know the cost. If anyone else is interested I will pass her details on to you. I'm off to try out this suit. He really is turning into a spoiled brat that boy:)

    4. That's a decent difference in cost between the taobao outfit and ebay (as usual lol). I might look into this - I can sew but I'm also very lazy lol.

For anyone considering Taobao, its really not that hard once you get the hang of it! And you can save a lot of money, even when you factor in the service fees for an agent.

    5. Is Loki ever not a spoiled brat? :wiggle I would be interested in an itty bitty Stuttgart!Loki scarf, if you have the Etsy seller's details! :D

This eBay seller appears to have pretty good feedback, so I took my chances and bought one! Even if it turns out to be somewhat different than the pictures, it's still going to be worlds better than anything I could do myself, so I'm glad to pay for the service. Little customizing things I can deal with, but sewing an entire complicated outfit out of multiple fabrics? Hell to the no, haha. Loki deserves better (and I deserve free time and lack of aggravation). This is why we have professionals! :blush

Haha, I noticed that steep price difference, too. They know they have most of the population who have no clue about Taobao/agents/etc. on the hook, so they charge accordingly! Even their shipping was steep - I contacted them before I ordered to ask about the combined shipping, and they told me they would, but when I bought the outfit and a handful of other small things that could totally be stuffed into one package, I was still invoiced almost full price for shipping to the US. Just be aware if anyone else is thinking of ordering! Still, not going to complain to the very person who might be the one stitching up the little darling's new suit! :sweat

    6. I looked up the taobao thing, and I'm so going to oder it as soon as I have some more cash aviable. I can sew, but I'm faaaaaar to lazy to try it, and I know I would get frustrated with this one.

    7. Good to hear from someone who has dealt with Taobao. I have never ordered from them but will be looking into it.

I'm waiting for the seller to reply about the scarf as she is sorting out all the details to do with getting the correct scale. When she gets back to me I will let you know. I am also into getting things made as I cannot sew for anything. I think it will be fun to have a few authentic looking bits of clothing.

My excuse is I absolutely have no sewing ability and Loki being Loki is going to want something that looks pretty good.

I tried his suit on and it fits really well. Here is a pic minus shoes and tie etc... which are coming eventually. We really do need that scarf too!!!!

    8. He looks delicious in that suit, Kavarr!

I'm probably going to order the armor via Ebay, hopefully they can make the pants with green fabric.

I made a version of the shawl by printing silk fabric on my garden-variety ink jet printer and it worked out pretty well. I made the pattern in Illustrator and uploaded it here: http://www.brinylon.com/pattern.pdf

    9. Arrrrg, sorry I just need to get out my frustration. I only waned to give him the last touches on his faceup, correct the little mistakes and add some gloss. Now I messed up the lips and I'm going to have to redo the whole thing.
Arrrrg Loki, If you don't want gloss on your lips, just tell me before I have to redo all of it!!!!!

Edit: ok, Now that I have him cleen I'm a bit calmer. Sometimes I wish he could talk, but he would be mocking me for such a stupid mistake.... -.-'
On the bright side, this made me realise that the Tom head is very nice to clean, no deep creases were the sealant stucks and you need half a life to get it out.
so face ups it is today^^

@Kavarr: he looks very nice in his suit. The tie and the scarf will be the last touches^^.

@stella, thank you for sharing^^ I have no printer, but I'm sure it can be useful for others.

    10. That scaled down pattern looks great Stella! I ended up deciding to order one of the outfits with ebay (a bit unsure of how to deal with Taobao and agents etc...) which i'm sure probably costs a bit more but I just decided it was easier. I wrote to them and they can change things like color and they will make a custom size if you send measurements. It still works out a lot cheaper than commissioning someone so I went for it. Damn that boy is so spoit!
Oh Lucius I can understand your frustration even though I don't do face-ups myself and just when you have it right too. I bet he just wanted to make you do it again little brat! Can't wait to see how it turns out when he lets you finish.

    11. Thank you Kavarr, it is indeed overly frustrating.....
But this time I finished everything from the start, and now I'm nicely surprised how nice the idea worked out.
My Loki has (or will have) two heads, the Tom MNM for my marvel fangirlism and a Mythological one (TrinitroTrololo Loki, not released jet) because I love that one too. Since the second will have some freckles, I tried adding some skin texture to the MNM head too.
Here the result^^ (with custom made eyes from Eichhorn-Nelson, not yet definitive)

I got him to smile for me ^_^, for now I'm happy with the result^^

    12. And I've been pondering if it's possible to try and sew Loki's get up on my own.... I'd probably fail at it miserably. lol
I'd definitely be more willing to pay the Taobao price for that clothing set if I knew how to buy from there... Never purchased from taobao before... *_* Twice the price from ebay seems a bit steep for not being overly accurate in terms of the armour pieces (this version also has less green than the actual one). I am actually surprised though that they even managed to put the red on the pants. Most people don't notice it, but that's on his actual costume. It's a little darker though on the real thing so it's not quite as noticeable as this.

    13. Lucius you did an amazing job it's very realistic looking! I love both versions (Marvel and Mythology) and look forward to seeing both of your Loki's heads. Is your other boy going to have long braided ginger hair to go with those freckles?
The likelihood of total failure is why I decided to buy one bambistark! I used ebay as I also have never dealt with Taobao and I was worried something would go wrong and I was to lazy too go chasing up a dealer etc.... I plan on altering the armor pieces a bit and I asked for no red as it is a bit to bright and obvious for me. I think it's because that piece seems to be made out of very shiny material that I don't like it. If it was a darker red faux leather then I would have it. If you buy one from Taobao I would love to know how it goes and what dealer you use. After all i'm going to need an outfit for Thor also and maybe they can make it.

    14. Kavarr I may end up just ordering from the ebay user, as the more I look into the other option, it may end up coming close to the same cost and a lot more hassle from taobao. I'm sending a message to the ebay dealer just to make sure they can do a custom size, cuz my dikadoll body is a little weirdly shaped compared to their listed standard sizes. Tall, but rather thin. If they can properly customize the size, I may just grab it and remake the armour pieces myself as it's something I'm better at than sewing, at least in terms of making armour things in human size. lol

    15. Thanks Kavarr. Yes the other one will have ginger hair, not overly long, but some brais to go with it^^. I think I'm so predictable.....

About Taobao, I only ordered once through taobao trends. They have a 10% deelers fee, and they send out mostly with ems, that is somewhat pricy even if they advertise that they have a 40% off on it. I don't know what the delivery fee from china to europe would be for one outfit (my case, I'm in europpe), but it's still cheaper than the ebay insert (me thinks). and the taobao site has the cutome made option in, I'm pretty sure they would make slight changes to it if you specified, english not being a problem since it goes over dealers who speak the leanguage.

    16. My Loki's pretty frustrated that I haven't bought it for him yet. I'm still deciding if I wanna spend the extra money right now or not.

    17. Go for it! Otherwise you might wake in the night to find his little resin claws wrapped around your throat, choking you in retaliation for denying him his kingly armor. ;) Loki has no problem consigning his slaves to a steady diet of ramen in order to stuff his wardrobe, haha.

    18. Sh... Mine doesn't know it's available; if he finds out I'll have no peace until he gets it!

    19. Mine doesn't have a body, yet (and isn't likely to get on for quite some time) so he can't make me buy clothes for him. :D
