DIM Tom Hiddleston Discussion Thread

    1. I used a heat gun, it doesn't take much to make the material flexible. I heard people use a hair dryer as well, but I imagine the heat gun works faster as it heats up much quicker (and also reaches significantly higher temperatures). Heat guns aren't too expensive and can be found at most hardware stores. I have one because I do other Cosplay things for myself with it as well.

    2. Hmm! I've actually looked into those in the past, as an alternative to oven-baking vinyl doll parts between layers of heat-set paints. Might be time to take the plunge! Thanks for the hint! <3

    3. Just ordered a piece of worbla and going to see how it goes just using the hairdryer. I really want to make Loki's armor but have no idea what i'm doing so this could be fun.

    4. Thanks bambistark for showing your Worbla helmet and giving us the website.:D
      I have ordered a sample piece,now all I need is a heat gun....:dance

    5. His scarf arrived (it's so cute all scaled down!) so now he has his Stuttgart outfit :dance

Now to work out what to do with this worbla:)

    6. Aww, such a gentleman. :D Your background is also perfect for that scene! <33

    7. AT LONG LAST...although perhaps not long enough, since Loki still hasn't got himself a faceup yet BUT that isn't what this post is about so oh well! :D Anyway, awesome Avengers outfit finally arrived!

If anyone is still on the fence about possibly buying it, go for it! Unless you are a professional seamstress, do you realize how many hours of anguish and suffering it would take to cobble this together yourself? (And more importantly, would Loki be caught dead in it, or would he piss on the heap of faux-leather and then set fire to it in the night?) It's so worth it. Seriously.

Fair warning, if you value your manicure or the state of your cuticles, consider wearing gloves when you dress him, because so much of this suit is edged in seriously sharp zipper metal (which looks amazing, but still. Ouch). I didn't catch it snagging any of the various outfit components, but just be aware. I did take pictures of the front and back of all the outfit/armor pieces if anyone is brave and crafty and wanting to crib the design to try it at home...just be warned that my camera is 100% sad and pathetic (the camera fund always seems to get repurposed as the doll fund, it's a vicious cycle). :> If anyone needs pictures of something more specific, I can certainly try to capture details. No promises for quality but I will do my best!

      Components: 9 pieces
      - Shirt (zips up the back) - 1, 2, 3
      - Jacket w/ tails and zipper edging - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
      - Pants - 1, 2
      - Cape (snaps onto shirt) - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
      - Armor: shoulders/pauldron (snaps onto cape) - 1, 2, 3
      - Armor: upper arm/rerebraces (black wire/twisty-ties) x 2 - 1, 2
      - Armor: forearm & wrist/vambraces (elastic) x 2 - 1, 2
      - Armor: bonus group photo! 1

PROS: looks freaking awesome, exactly like the pictures. Worth every penny! I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the armor, but it actually isn't that bad. The material is embossed with a subtle pattern (not the exact pattern from the real armor, of course, but it's not so in your face that it becomes the first thing you notice). The armor either snaps on, or has little black wire/twisty-tie things or elastic to secure them in place. There is even wire inside the armor so you can sort of mold it around whatever body part it belongs on. I was super sloppy putting mine on, so I know they have the potential to look a lot better when you actually take the time to do them properly! (I was excited and rushing, what can I say?) >:B Plus, if you ditch the cape and some armor, you can very easily convert between Avengers and Thor: TDW outfit styles. :D

CONS: ...Loki can't really do his classic sits-like-a-whore routine without difficulty, because his leather pants are so tight! Heartbreaking! I'm sure that will get easier over time as the material stretches a bit. :D It is also pretty tricky getting most of the clothes on, because that tight leather isn't especially forgiving and you need to watch out for the sharp zipper bits. The pants were the worst by far lol. I was glad the shirt zipped up the back for easy dressing, but the zipper is the same bright gold as all of the other zipper details - it would be pretty obvious if you didn't have his overcoat on. I was sort of disappointed that there was really no chest piece for the armor or his little chest strap thing, but at least I was expecting that since it is the same in the promo pics. The little flaps over the chest want to disobey, so I plan to get them very slightly damp and put a heavy book on top to coax them into place more permanently (not sure how heat would react with the faux leather). Also, the cape is a wee bit long for movie accuracy, and the color is more toward olive/army than the brighter green from Avengers - both of which can be seen in the promo pics, so again, no huge surprise! All of the colors in the outfit do work very well together, though!

I don't like that my cons section is so much longer than the pros! :/ For the TL;DR crowd, most of the cons are just nitpicky things!

And now, for the biggest con of them all: my lame camera and subpar photoshop skills (I apologize). Watch me get around the pesky one photo rule by making a messy, crappy collage whoa yeah no it's a bit too enormous to post so there is a link instead! Ugh it is a sad disaster, but I am sick of looking at it so screw it. :D

On a 65cm Soom Super Gem body (Jotun babbu not included), and also closer detail of the armor pattern in action (thank you hieisfuzz for photoshopping the hideous date stamp off that one for me! <333)

I realized when I was done that I had exactly zero pictures of the outfit from the back or sides. Fail. :P Next time!

    8. Thank you so much, Psychobarfly, for that great review. I'm tempted horribly all over again. The quality is much better than I expected!

    9. Psychobarfly that looks a whole lot better than I was expecting! It looks much better than in their promo pics. I can't wait for it to arrive now. The armor looks and sits better too. Thanks so much for posting all the pics:)

    10. Thank you very much for the great review. The pics are very useful, but have made the decision even harder. Now a loud- little voice is screaming at me to try making that outfit myselve. Arrrg!!!!!!

    11. Yay, thanks guys! :D The pieces remind me a lot of my Hot Toys Loki's outfit, which is a good thing - and the price of this 1/3 sized outfit seems very reasonable when you consider the overall cost of buying a HT Loki doll, haha. Endlessly impressed by folks who know how to turn a heap of fabric into something like this. Good luck to the ones still brave enough to give it a try! Lucius, if you or anyone else needs dimensions/lengths of certain pieces, I can try to get those as well - I ordered their SD17 size with no special requests and it fits my 65cm doll perfectly, so you can scale your sewing projects up or down accordingly. (I am a sewing novice, so be very detailed in what it is you want measured/photographed! Should have just taken pictures next to a yard stick in the first place lol.) :D

But I hope this has convinced a few of you so we'll get to see more cuties literally dressed to kill after this, and I also hope they get cracking on everyone else's Loki suits - I am particularly eager to see your boy all dressed up Kavarr! <33 And Stella, it won't be long before your Loki realizes the unfairness that he has no suit and tiny Tony gets to have his suit on all the time. ;)

Who else has this outfit on the way? I thought there was at least one more person, as well as several on the fence...

Has anyone else experimented with Worbla lately? :D

    12. >3> ... I may be clicking that "order" button on taobao trends much sooner now (I have to weed out some of the other doll clothes I added though ^^;). That outfit does look pretty good! -3- sadly I think I'll have to spend a little more and get the custom sized version since I don't think their SD17 size would fit my 68cm body if it fits your 65cm body perfectly. Really appreciate the review!

Sadly I haven't done much with my Loki since a photostory I did with him a while ago, so I don't have anything fun to share, but I just wanted to enthuse about all the neat things you guys have been up to lately : D

    13. Aww! Well...it might work for you, depending on your doll's exact dimensions. If that extra 3cm is mostly in the legs, you're gold, because Loki is going to be wearing tall boots anyway, right? :P I can measure things if it would help you out!

I don't believe the eBay seller we bought from charges extra for special sizing (though you might double-check that with Kavarr since she went custom), but I have no clue about whether the Taobao folks upcharge for it. That would kind of suck. :/ There are a couple other fly-by-night sellers on eBay who listed the outfit with the same stock photos, so I can imagine the same is true on Taobao - choose who you buy from carefully! Luckily, Betty at betrust2008 either speaks a bit of English or has a decent translation program...priceless.

    14. I thought it safer and easier to go with the ebay seller also. Having someone who speaks English really helps. I did go for custom sizing and they don't charge any extra. I was worried that the SD17 might be just a bit tight for the feeple body. Did they let you know when yours was shipping Psychobarfly? I'm trying to be patient but I really can't wait!

    15. I have ordered the outfit, also with custom sizing because the Ringdoll 70 cm body really is a SD13 size with longer arms and legs (the torso is also a little longer but negligible). They only have the one colour zippers but I hope i'll be able to give them some patina at the very least. I can't wait!

    16. Kavarr, yes they did let me know once it was shipping, and gave me the tracking number! I bought a few different things from them, and got a separate eBay message for each item, so that is probably their standard way to communicate with buyers. There was also a free pair of underwear in the package, so Loki wouldn't need to go au naturel. :D Maybe the special size orders take them a bit longer to complete? I know at least three other buyers must have theirs, since I am a professional creep and just looked at the seller's feedback. :> I admit I was really hoping your suit would get there first because I want to see your pretty boy dressed up in it!!

Stella, that's awesome congrats! :D Your Loki will love it, zippers and all. If the zipper really bugs you, a plain strip of black fabric tucked into the back of his collar would probably help disguise it, or at least make photoshopping it out of pictures a bit easier! They sent my suit with a tiny baggie of safety pins (which I think were for the armor, but I am definitely not stabbing pinholes in the leather), so you would even have a way to fasten it on there. :D

One more pro-tip! There IS a very, very detailed list of the package contents right on the shipping label, right along with eBay usernames and item numbers. So anyone trying to keep your mailman and/or family from obtaining further proof you are crazy, plan to be the one fetching the mail that day! By some magnificent stroke of luck, my mailman put the package in my mailbox instead of ringing the doorbell for a signature (as he usually does on int'l things, thus outing my illicit fandom and doll activities, haha). ;)

    17. Congrats on ordering one Stella! The Ringdoll body is so lean and long a custom would be needed.
Psychbarfly maybe they used the hot toys outfit to model this one on. That would be great as the HT outfits alone sell for a lot more. As for the postie ours already knows i'm a crazy doll collector (among other things) so nothing new there
Hey speaking of action figures my guys had some fun playing with themselves er I mean their own minimees:)

    18. Oh, those boys! You should recreate this scene again once both Lokis have their suits, Kavarr! :D You're probably right about the outfits - I wondered myself once I realized just how similar they are. Since Hot Toys is based in Hong Kong and all of these sellers are in China, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of them have even worked for Hot Toys in the past, haha. Clever things, they would certainly know firsthand how much demand there is for all things Loki! If you sew 5436748946 tiny 1/6 scale Loki outfits, it's not much of a stretch to think a professional seamstress could whip up a variety of bigger sizes...

    19. So true. They know that Loki is so popular they are onto a good thing. I actually asked Betty if they would consider doing Thor outfits too but she said no plan to atm. I'm just so glad they did Loki's :)

    20. I love that photo! The effect of things having smaller things that are the same is so cool (I'm expressing myself badly here.)

My Loki and his Nendoroid Iron man is kind of funny? Because Loki is tall and Tony is short and with the dolls the effect is extremely exaggerated.

I asked Betty for a SD13 size with sleeves and legs made a little longer but she was having none of it and wanted the exact measurements. I was glad that she asked! It shows they are not just going to futz something together.

I like the zippers, but the gleaming goldness is something I would like to reduce. I'm sure there are ways to tarnish them.
