DIM Tom Hiddleston Discussion Thread

Feb 15, 2013

    1. Kavarr, I didn't know you had asked them about a Thor outfit, haha! It's a good thing someone is thinking ahead. ;) Oh well, I guess having Loki and Thor cosplay outfits would be too good to be true...I think we could manage Thor's post-banishment outfits from the first film, though! Long sleeved ringneck shirt, navy blue pants, boots. Simples. A standard issue hospital gown? Check. Plaid flannel shirts and jeans? Totally. You already have some Asgard casual wear for your boy! :D Loki would probably prefer him humbled and stripped of his armor, anyway, and seeing as it always ends up being about what Loki wants... :D

Stella, I know what you mean! Your little Tony is cute on his own, but even cuter keeping company with a full-sized Loki! Their tiny puddings are a bonus. :D I wish those Nendoroids had a tiny Thor and Loki in their product line, too! <33 I don't suppose Betty gave you an ETA on when Lox's custom outfit might be finished? I'm getting really curious about their work order priority since others have started receiving their suits, but early buyers like Kavarr are still waiting. It must be the custom orders getting delayed.

    2. I love your little Iron Man Stella and the size difference is hilarious. I am glad too that they want full measurements and I hope this means that they are taking extra care with making all the outfits. I am so much happier after seeing psychobarfly's pics as they look great. It shouldn't be to hard to tone down the gold zippers. It looks like poor Thor may be stuck in Midgard cloths for a while yet psychobarfly. Like you said though I think it's safer by far to keep Loki happy:)

    3. Lox was sitting on the couch with Fenrir, and he looked really sweet, which is quite rare:

    4. Great pic Stella! Lox is looking beautiful and relaxed. I think he is enjoying some quiet time with his beloved Fenrir:)

I'm going to start trying to make Loki his helm today. I really have no idea what i'm doing so just going to try some things out. I figure if I can make it out of paper it may give me some idea (like a pattern) of the pieces of worbla I will need to cut. I have never made anything like that before so I think it will be a bit of trial and error.

Edit: Had good fun (not so sure Loki did though) playing with my bit of worbla. Made a first attempt and still not finished with shaping yet. I figure if it doesn't work out I can just melt it down and start again. It's pretty rough and nowhere near as good shape as bambistarks creation. Here is a pic and try not to laugh at Loks as he was not impressed with having me shape the stuff on his head:)

    5. Stella, Lox and Fenrir look super cute! I hope Fenrir doesn't mind Lox getting most of the attention in that shot, haha. :D

Kavarr, that's pretty ace for an amateur Worbla artist! :D The angle/shape of the horns is almost in between Loki's dignified prince helmet from Thor and the mean looking horns on his Avengers one. You can come out the other end of this project with a hybrid that works for each version, to suit The Cranky One's ever-shifting moods! <333 So was the Worbla kind to you and your hair dryer? ;)

    6. Nice to see that taobao outfit set is pretty good quality! I'm still sort of undecided for my guy. As much as I dislike TDW, I do like the slightly altered outfit a little more than the full on Avengers one and he still needs a suit too.

Worbla and wonderflex are both great materials to play around with!

I just recently moved and have really been enjoying how large my new room is, with amazing windows, and how I can now actually display my Thor collection all at once over multiple surfaces. I used to have one tiny cramped little bookcase bursting.

    7. Oh wow Kim, that is a shelf full of awesome right there - congrats on your new place! Senor Creepy is going to have some nicely toasted buns come winter time chilling out on top of the radiator, haha. :D

    8. Thanks psychbarfly. I am having so much fun with the worbla. I have made some changes today and now need to sand the hell out of it. Got to go get some surface primer and paint. I found out you can heat it in the microwave also. My hairdryer survived but I sustained a cut finger (damn scissors) and a blister from touching a piece that was too hot!
Kim your collection look great all together! It must be a nice change to have lots of space. I love the way Loki just slouches back and looks like he owns the place already:)

    9. In keeping with the theory that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, I followed Kavarr's lead and sent a message to the eBay seller to ask about their future plans for a matching Thor costume. If I am reading this objectively instead of with my ever-hopeful, rose-tinted fangirl goggles on, I think we might be wearing them down!

It probably didn't hurt that my question came on the heels of more delighted compliments for the Loki suit they made for me. ;) So if anyone else who bought a Loki costume could casually ask them about offering a Thor outfit as well (even if you have absolutely no intention of buying one and don't even own a Thor doll) that would be awesome! Helping the rest of us desperate turkeys possibly get our hands on one would satisfy your good deed quota for the year, haha. We can do it! :D

What verbiage did they use when you asked about this, Kavarr? Did they sound completely against it, or was there a hint of light at the end of the tunnel?

    10. I think this sounds promising and we may get our Thor outfits yet! This was what she said to me:

"Hi, Thanks for your interest. We have not designed out this suit now.But we will think about it and will list it when it is designed out. Please kindly be noted."

Sounds like they are designing one and working out the details.
:dance I second the idea of as many of us asking about it as possible. Our Thor's need some love too!

I asked again about my order yesterday as it was nearly a month since I last checked and she said it shipped on the 19th and they had just been to busy to let me know. I can't wait for it to arrive!

    11. Oh yay, you should have it pretty soon in that case! :D Loki will be insufferable once he's in full armor and Thor is still working the "Asgard casual" collection...I am even more hopeful after seeing what the seller wrote to you about the Thor outfit, though! EVERYONE ASK THEM PLEASE! :fangirl:

    12. Wow, Kavarr, that helmet is going to be great! OMG, Kim, a whole shelf of Mischief (and that other guy ;p), that's amazing. I love Lokitty <3

    13. psychobarfly - ha I am so paranoid about yellowing that there's no way he gets to stay on the shelf. My room gets waaaaaaay too much sunlight for the dolls to be left out. But he can occasionally slouch on it when I'm in the mood for slouching villainy.

Kavarr - it is so amazing to finally have room for all of my crap! And room to take nice doll photos and not have to worry about my dirty clothes and what have you accidentally ending up in the pic too lol

Stella - The other guy is actually the star of my collection. Thor is my absolute fave, but the Hiddleston head happened and it's thrown off my even Thor to Loki ratio when it comes to figures and things. I try to get them in matched pairs whenever I can. I have more pics of my stuff over on my flickr, minus my original comic art.

It'd be great if they also made a Thor outfit for those in need, as the Loki one seems to be well made.

    14. You have an amazing collection there Kim. Not fair though I need a Loki body pillow now! Face it you are going to have to get a Thor bjd next. Would you get a Chris Hemsworth MNM if they did them or would you want to create your Thor with another look?
That helmet is far from perfect and I got heaps of bumps in it Stella. I figure I will make a better one but for now it will do. I got sick of sanding and painted it. I can always say I was going for the battle damaged look.
Fingers crossed Psychobarfly we may get it yet. Will just have to pester them into doing it to shut us up!

    15. I'd go with an actual company sculpt because while I think Chris is absolutely the most beautiful man on the planet, his face doesn't make for a very good doll. His eyes are small and he's got an interesting nose and a stronger jawline, things which often look odd on dolls. Tom worked so well because his features are already sort of cartoonish in proportion and translated well into a BJD look. Comics Thor is actually my fave version, and he looks a bit different in the comics versus the movies, so it'd be a lot easier to work off of his stylized comic face. I've been thinking about a couple of Volks sculpts I think might work.

But little chibi Loki has had his chibi Thor ordered. Some day Thor will actually ship.

Sanding is always the worst part of any cosplay project. There's just no way to speed it up and it's so repetitive.

    16. Oh yeah, Kim, I can see what you mean about the abundance of light! It works well for showcasing all of your other cuties, though! I love that you have everyone paired up - your big Loki definitely needs a BJD Thor, too. <333 I also love your trio of windows, but oh man I would go crazy with that much light all the time, haha! I chose my bedroom specifically for the north-facing window, and to further cement my BJD-friendly vampire lifestyle, I then covered that window in heavy floor length red velvet drapes. It looks like a bordello in there, but I can safely keep the resins out and about without fretting overmuch about yellowing. :> :> (The flipside to this is the fact that the only places that do get decent light for photography are the kitchen and bathroom...super classy places for alien royalty to hang out for portraits, I know.)

I wouldn't be averse to a Minimee or an artist's version of Chris - even a generic looking MNM would be an excellent base for someone with the skill to transform him with modding and painting. There are amazingly talented artists out there! <3 The facial hair is what I fear would go pear-shaped unless done beautifully like on your Thor, Kavarr. I'm curious what other sculpts you guys have considered to pair up with your Loki dolls? Finding ones that look manly enough without venturing into fuglyville can be something of a challenge...Iplehouse Dexter is also high on my list for that reason, but even he would need some work, haha.

Has everyone been keeping up with their homework? I hope you slackers have been bugging that eBay seller about Thor costumes when you have a chance! :wiggle

    17. The downstairs in my house is very dark because it's a row house, so when I need comforting darkness I head down to the living room. It's a good balance.

The sculpt I'm leaning towards is Volks Yukinojo. A friend owns one and he looks pretty good with the creepy one. Eyes are about the same size which always helps with sculpt compatibility. And he's got a bit of the nose that Thor tends to have in the comics. Thor also, and this makes me happy, is clean shaven in the comics and his costume is a lot easier to figure out lol So is Loki's.

    18. Can't wait to see who you choose for your Thor Kim. It is harder when it's your favorite character as you just want them to be perfect and match the vision you have.
I'm like you psychbarfly and my room is not full of light either. It can be a pain for indoor pics as I need quite a sunny day to get decent light in here. IH Dexter would be great for a Thor. When I decided to have a Thor my only choice was IH. I ended up with a smirking Thor as I love the Claude sculpt and it was a good excuse to get him. I love IH because their boys do look more manly and they are amazingly good looking dolls. I would also love to know who else is doing (or contemplating) a Thor and what sculpt they would go for.

    19. Aww, Yukinojo is a cutie Kim! :D Those comic outfits (and lack of beard) do look a million times simpler to recreate than the ones from the films...unfortunately for most of us here. ;) I didn't even know they made a SD16 boy...sad supergeek that I am, I made myself a massive spreadsheet to keep track of doll stats and measurements for any company I own or am interested in owning someday, but I admit my Volks section is pretty bare-bones compared to others. (I am the last person to start purposely digging into Volks sculpts, because a.) price and b.) I have a hell of a time telling most of them apart lol. SHAME. Yes, I am aware this qualifies me as a failure in this hobby, but you know what you study most!) I hope you are able to put your hands on Yuki for a fair price! <3

Kavarr, your kitchen photo sessions have been perfectly well lit so far - no worries there! Occasional cute puppy in the background is just a bonus. ;) I always thought EG Claude looked like a smug younger Thor in the promo pics, but I stumbled across one on eBay some months ago with a full painted beard and saw him in a whole new light! I want to say it was this doll, since it also had green eyes and a smattering of little scars: 1, 2, 3. Your beautiful boy is like a happy medium! :D

This entire exchange is outing the movie-lovers from the comic-lovers, I suspect... :P

    20. Volks are my fave doll company and thus the one I'm the best at identifying. Yukinojo is a bit of a weird duck. They only ever made one SD16 boy, the body wasn't popular with the Japanese fanbase and then it was recast so they abandoned it entirely. He was recently rereleased on their largest body to date, the SDGou body. I'm trying to figure out how tall the two different versions are next to a Feeple 65 body. Thor's gotta be slightly taller than Loki.

I love the movies and they were my gateway drug, but yeah, the comics are where my heart lies most. The stories are more tragic and their relationship is heartbreaking. If you think the movies are sad, oh man, the comics hurt me worse.

Claude definitely has that brashness and charm that Thor has in his smirk, so he's a good choice for Thor.
