DIM Tom Hiddleston Discussion Thread

Feb 15, 2013

1. There's a scene in Iron Man 3, where he meets a fan who has a tattoo of Tony Stark, and the guy says something along the lines of "I have a doll", but it's not clear what kind of doll. That's played as an example of a harmless but rabid fan. That's not something I would ever say out loud to, well, for instance if I ever met Hiddles. (It would be incorrect anyway, because Lox is very much LOKI, inspired by Hiddleston's version of him).

Someone did link to Buff's dolls in the Facebook post, she has a Tony Stark. And someone else to the TrinitroTrololo Loki. I made that particular photo only to show it here, it's definitely not one I would have chosen to share with thousands of people (the FB post has over 100K likes). (it's hosted on Flickr, and I put it on my own Tumblr. I have about 100 followers.)

I don't think I would want to know what my fans were up to, if I was famous, especially since it's a little creepy how many people are unable to separate the actor from the character, but I can imagine being tempted to check out all the weird stuff. I don't expect actors to GET it, just like most people IRL.

Tiny Tony is wearing sunglasses in the photo, I made them out of black paper, but that looked too much like a blindfold so I made another photo without and messed a bit with transparency, but it's not great. Lox' sunglasses are Volks, of course (lol!)

I love the box of Loki charms, awesome idea to make an actual cereal box of that design! And I really like that, after all these years, you can still please Loki with a horse XD

Kavarr, do you have a link to that cosplay page?

2. LOL I forgot about the crazy fan in a van in IM3! I think RDJ is probably going to be the most cool about having dolls of himself, although Hiddles does love playing with himself at every opportunity... :D The cosplayer is probably Fahrlight, yes? She reblogs a lot of cosplay BJDs on her Tumblr. Do you happen to have a link to the post of your boy, Kavarr? Casual Googling has been less than successful! ;)

3. Love the sunglasses Stella. They both look so cool! That picture could get a lot more fans interested in bjds. As for the actors I think many would find minimees amusing. Some fan stuff would be creepy but a bjd is not unlike having a large customizable action figure so I don't think they would mind.
Yes it is Fahrlight Psychobarfly. I'm not really into cosplay but someone I know is and she told me about it. This is the link to the page http://fahrlight.tumblr.com/post/92226121019/saskha-jotun-loki-4-by-kavarr-damian#_=_ I'm not very up with blog type stuff but I singed up to tumblr about a month ago. All I seem to do though is look at Loki and bjd stuff so far. I have found a couple of you on there to follow by searching Loki bjd :)

4. Haha, I figured it would be her. ;) I wish Fahrlight was into BJDs for entirely selfish reasons, because her human cosplay is pretty badass, so I can only imagine what she could do for a dolly or two! I love looking at what cosplay stuff others can come up with. Fahr seems pretty hardcore dedicated to her craft, and it certainly pays off (mad props to anyone who will actually shave their hairline to look more like Loki, lol...but no need to do that for a doll, so! Happy compromise). :D

I hope you're right about folks getting interested in BJDs, because from demand hopefully springs supply! Those RDJ MNM heads are like impossible to find, I wonder if they were one of those Russian GOs?

5. One of the girls I know is a big Fahr fan and she is also a bjd collector. It was her that recognized my Loki. I have only ever gone in cosplay once to a convention I usually prefer to wander around with a bjd on my arm. Hey psychobarfly as far as RDJ heads go have you seen the GO thread http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...rt-Downey-Jr-Minimee-Group-Order-(second-try) Ikke777 has started? I figured it was inevitable that I (or Loki) will want one so I will likely be in it. Stella I can hear Lox demanding one too! ;)

6. I did see ikke777's GO for RDJ, as well as the new Hiddles and Chris heads she has in the works! :D ...And then my brain started screeching something about NO MORE FLOATING HEADS YOU REJECT OMG ARE YOU CRAZY?? but I think I know the answer to that one, so yes. :D I was waiting to see the updated/final face schematics on RDJ, since I know they were going back and forth very recently about the 3D image and making comparisons/overlays...if I went for it, I would likely try to arrange for Tony's little noggin to be sent directly to WG for his faceup to spare all that pesky int'l shipping back and forth, haha. ;) Thank the sweet baby Hiddles that people are willing to take on these fan projects for the greater good!

Also in the same vein, if anyone else is still wanting to add (another) Thor to their crew a bit sooner, the Whispering Grass Chris head sculpt is coming along beautifully! Very exciting! All my Lokis (Lokies? Lokii? Either way, it sounds like the name of a soap opera haha) and Jane are so eager to meet him! <333 (Loki looks unimpressed by big brother stealing his limelight, but then again, he's the first to admit that satisfaction isn't in his nature...he's probably just bummed he didn't get to scope out any tiny dolly bits in those previews lol.) :D

7. All of these are so gorgeous... I wish I had been able to get one of these sculpts. :( I'm guessing they're only available on the second-hand market nowadays?

8. A new photo:

Tony: I died and went to hell.
Lox: We can always switch, Stark. All this infernal machine will allow me access to are pictures of horses.
Tony: That's a feature, not a bug.

Nyara, it seems that the heads pop up for sale regularly and Ikke is also trying to get people together for a run of a new Tom Hiddleston head here. So getting one is still possible!

9. Love seeing Lox and his little Tony. I wonder if they have seen themselves on RDJs page yet. I had a read and some of the comments were hilarious but i'm not sure Lox will take well to being called a girl!

I took some pics today of my Jotun boy being all frosty.

10. While I don't doubt actors are tangentially aware of their fandoms, I really do wish the two would remain separate for the most part. For both the actor's sake and the fan's sake. A good friend of mine had to deal with a lot of shit because her fanart was used on the Graham Norton show and shown to Hiddleston to make fun of him and to make fun of his fans, and she was less than pleased about it.

I'm still waiting on my little Thor to get shipped to me. I can't wait to see him, and I've definitely decided on the sculpt I'm gonna get for my big Thor. Officially decided I do need him in my life, as messing around with Creepy Tom has left me really wanting to take couples photos. I will forever remain the diehard Thorki fan of this thread lol

The past few weeks have been super busy with the holiday, but I was finally able to get one of my big wants.

I love this suit so much. Man, I am terrible at tying ties.

11. Ooooh he looks so gorgeous in his new suit Kim! :DYou did better than I would with his tie. I got one of those pre tied ones that you just tie on. I can't wait till you get your Thor too. I think as few of us on here are diehard Thorki fans. What sculpt are you going to go for or is it going to be a surprise? That's horrible about your friends art being ridiculed. It's very frustrating sometimes that people think it's alright to make fun of something just because it's fan art and treat the artist like they are some creepy stalker or something. Also as Hiddles is so lovely to his fans I think he would definitely been uncomfortable too.

12. I had to find a step by step how to tie a tie guide, and it still took me like 15 minutes because it's so small.

I'm gonna with a Volks Yukinojo. On the one body he'll be slightly taller so that'll work great, and it's a sculpt that really blossoms with a good repaint.

Yeah it was definitely not cool. Not only is it rude to show people explicit artwork without asking them if they'd be alright with it or asking permission from the artist to use their artwork to begin with, it really pisses me off that so many people will use fanworks to ridicule the fans, when seriously we're the people who spend the money and keep these things going.

13. Oh, that suit looks fantastic on your boy. I should get down to buissnes and make the StNikolai (small pre-christmas gift giving event in Germany) shooting, where Loki, being a god and all, gets his suit (remember small gifts^^, right).
Then I'll be able to do the next shoot with him in the suit. (let's not get into the practical aspects of my shooting schedules... :P )

And on matter of Loki clothing and presents, he'll be rocking the christmas colors in his Avengers outfit. It arrived some days ago, evenything mostly ok, and all a good fitting. I'll only have to find out again how to put that armor on......

(Loki: Hm, what is this strange spell...? I could have sworn only the males in this midgardian home were apt at magic. Still, the past half hour, I have no recollection of what happend...
*Lady Lucius hides a smile and continues wrapping X-Mas presents ^_^*)
--->Sorry for the bad pic, it was taken with our smal camara...
P.S.: Loki is wearing his germanic outfit on the pic.

I only meant to say, that any star is able to see what his fans are doing, s/he just needs to (even in)properly use google. If they should or not, that remains another story.
Public ridicule is something I can not understand. When it is humor with good intend, all cards layed out in the open and all involved in acord, at least somewhat, then it is another matter. But what our TVculture is so fond of practicing, has nothing good in it. We are long out of the dark ages, when ridicule was meant as punishment and entretainment at the same time. Human kind thinks it has risen above such "primitive, dark practices", but switch on TV on any cheap talkshow and you only get that. Why we (as in human race) still insit on the same concept of hurt, is beyond me.
Beside this little aspect on human nature... that incident was clearly an act of art theft, since fanart is and will always be art. (unauthorised usage with diffamatory purpose is what I call theft here) I'm really sorry for what happend to your friend, hope the issue could be resolved.

14. Ahhh I love it when I get on here and everyone is posting pics of their boys! :D I just mailed my MNM off to be painted on Saturday (only took me a year and two days since I bought him, but hey who's counting right? >_> You can't hurry love after all)! :)) I miss him already, but I am so excited to finally be able to have something on topic to contribute here soon! For now...all I have is stuff like this (I swear I am on the diehard Thorki team, even if that looks 110% hetero lol - the babbus are all the product of an epic Thorki union, I promise! He looks pretty good for a father of 156489416). :D Western Union is on my last nerve with trying to get his faceup paid for, however...word to the wise, if they say they will call you with the verification code to proceed "within minutes," this is a lie lol. :P Obviously they want me to pay with a credit card instead and spend more than double in fees (which they kindly jacked up A LOT for the holidays), the sneaky buggers. I'm surprised Paypal hasn't done the same...

I am a little concerned about my lack of blank heads for wig styling purposes now, however - the MNM head and I had some excellent bonding time while I tried to trim and tame the Monique Taylor wig over a several day period last month. :)) I was correct about it flipping perfectly on one side...and being totally disobedient on the other side without a lot of TLC following every pose! In any case, here are a couple examples of it sorta kinda behaving: wig linky 1 and wig linky 2. :D It's also super puffy without the weight of the long hair forcing it down, so hair gel is in his future for sure lol. So much for it being as easy as the 5-6 Lati wig!

Kim, is that the Freedom Teller suit you have been pining for? He looks very handsome (as well as a bit dangerous), and you did a lovely job with his tie so that was fifteen minutes well spent! :D I can't believe Lati is dragging so much ass shipping your little Thor, though...I hope they put some good apology freebies in the box.

Lucius, I hope Loki doesn't catch on to your tricky moves! He will be peeking at ALL the presents! ;) I'm intrigued by your boy's Germanic outfit, I love the open neckline with all of his necklaces. <33 Have we seen pictures of that one before?

I agree about surprising famous people with fanart of themselves being rude to all parties and generally a bad idea, even if Hiddles handles it more gracefully than some folks do. Still, that one interview where they filmed him watching this vid of himself laughing was pretty epic, I have to say! :D

15. Ah, finally I killed my lazyness and took the time for that shooting I was talking about. You may find it here, chapter three is the "magical" Loki special. Hope you enjoy.

@ psychobarfy- oh please no, I already have to make sure my sister stays away from them, if I have to look out for my dolls too, I'm doomed! Because when we talk about presents, Loki isn't the worst I have at home^^
About that germanic outfit (it is a mix if celtic-medieval-germanic-element, if anyone wants to be exact), no you have not seen it yet. But it's in the story, go look it up. :P
It will be the outfit for when his second head is on that body, aka when he is being his mythological self more than the avengers trickster.
And congratulation on getting your Hiddles head painted. Hope it will look great, and just the way you want it.
For wig styling, there are this foam balls, that are sold in craft stores or dollar (here euro) stores, to craft and make into whatever. I saw someone sticking them on a pencil or longer pole and using them as doll wig stands. you can pin the wig down on them, like you would when styling a human sized one on a wig head. I stoll have to try mine out, they are waiting for their pencils to hold them up^^

And only for shameless selfpromotion, here the bonus pic of the pre- christmas story (only to be found in this thread^^) (Big)Loki, (Smal)Loki and my rolling head in his Malekith face up. Now without further addo:

P.S.: a yes, the ironie of ties. The one I made for the small Loki, I have to tie manually like a real one, the one that came with the suit has an pre-done knott and an easy tie ribon for the back.
Stella: My mistake with Tonys sunglases. Anyway he looks awsome with them.

16. Lovely bonus portrait! Their matching wigs are adorable. :D Also, I meant to say on your post that I'm super in love with Loki's Germanic outfit, especially those furry boots! <33 Your TNT Loki will be very satisfied with that one when he's ready for his homecoming! (Any news/progress with him?)

Haha, I've thought about the styrofoam ball trick for wigs! My wig lady recommended stabbing the styrofoam balls with a fork, which Loki would no doubt love to witness, the violent cretin. But for a style that's so specific like Loki's, I wanted to make sure of the length ending at the right place (which didn't work very well, since the wig did exactly what human hair does and got shorter as it dried! Shorter and puffier...it needs styling product pretty badly lol). So I had the MNM head on the body so I could check hair length and how even it looked as I cut, going weft by weft from the bottom up...and after all that, utter wig disobedience. Is there any project involving Loki that isn't difficult? :P

17. psychobarfly - Yesss it's the Freedom Teller suit I have desired for so long. The craftsmanship is amazing on it, it's basically a perfect miniature human suit. Thorki babies happen so easily. Canonically in the comics, they're both absolutely TERRIBLE parents and that amuses me to no end, so I love to think about children who have the worst traits of both of their parents with no supervision and phenomenal cosmic powers. It's amazing.

Faceups are always super fun to look forward to. I'm still trying to decide who little Thor is going to go to once he gets here.

18. Great to hear your boys outfit arrived Lucius. He looks great in it and I love seeing all your other dols in the shoot too. So your little Jotun likes sweets huh? I bet he scored more treats than you did! I'm looking forward to seeing your Loki in his Avengers gear also.
Psychobarfly i'm excited that your boys head is getting face-upped. I absolutely love seeing how they all turn out. You may get him back before mine comes home again. I really miss that head and want him back. Cutting and styling a wig is no easy matter but it's looking good. I have to put product on mine to make it calm down and almost behave.
That suit does look beautifully made Kim. I can understand the cost when you think how much would have to go into making something so fitted.
Here's a pic for the Thorki fans. I think Thor likes Loki whether he is in Jotun or Asgard form ;)

19. Kavarr, thank you very much, I'm happy you liked it^^.
Your picture is very sweet, Thor looks lovestriken and so cute. And dare I say Loki seems to be...shy? It could be indecision of what to do next, of cours.

And yes, the little Jotun loves sweets. he has a whole collection hidden away, from chocolate waffles to cakes and sweet creps, everything present. He needs a lot of energy for his (not so) little pranks.

Psychobarfly, no, I don't know anything new on that TNT head. A pitty really...
The fury boots are just regular boots, I added the fur, and it can be taken of if necesarry, like some kind of leg-in this case boot- warmers^^.

20. Okay guys, mark the time and date: I am actually posting something on topic for like the first time ever lol. :P

So someone was trying on beachy jailbird swimwear before getting packed up in the box, despite me assuring him that his holiday trip abroad to the WG dolly spa for his faceup wouldn't involve fun in the sun OR any gender-bending Lady Loki sexytimes (or a body at all, for the matter...but hey, small details). :D

Pretty sweet resin match, right? Well, there is an excellent reason for that - it's a DiM body. :)) After dealing with resin mismatches like all this craziness (99.9% sure I am being judged hard by that MNM head lol), I was super impressed about how good it looked until I made the connection and realized of course it matches, haha. I wish DiM sold bigger boy bodies!! I'm afraid he would look like a midget on a 62cm one next to everyone else. :/

Kim, congrats on your grail suit! :D It seems as if a lot of our boys are getting suits for the holidays this year...now your Loki wants to know what he's getting next. ;) CPS would be all over comic Thorki if they lived here lol...although when it comes to Loki's canon spawn, deciding whether to call social services or the pound is anyone's guess! And since Lati is being slow as usual, you will have plenty of time to pin down an artist before little Thor arrives. :D

Kavarr, starting up a speed competition between our divas could very well end in bloodshed for these two - or is it three? :D Have you already sent your third head out for a faceup yet? I can't keep track of everyone's heads, haha. Thor does look smitten with his boytoy no matter what color he is! If Thor isn't concerned by being outnumbered by a trio of Lokis soon...perhaps he ought to be. ;)

Lucius, all tiny dolls must crave tons of sweets, because I have the same issue! Greedy little sugar fiends! ;) Good idea to add the fur separately for his boots, it gives you double the options - even letting him wear just the leg warmer fur...and his handcuffs. :D
