1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. ?
  1. Keep them in the box out of sunlight.

  2. I want my dolls company in the room!

    1. Usually she's out for display, but not in direct sunlight, behind glass in a closet. I want to be able to see her, 'cause I think it's soothing. At the moment she's in her box though, because I'm thinking of washing her clothes (I was warned they might stain).

I wouldn't mind if she would yellow. I won't ever want to sell her and I think the yellowing is merely part of her aging process.

    2. My doll is displayed in the living room in a closet behind glass. That keeps her from getting dusty and she is out of direct sunlight.
I think it would be a shame not to see her when I have her.
My girl is already yellow(ed), so that makes it less of a hard decision XD.
I presume dolls will yellow over time anyway (even in a box), so why not accept it and enjoy their company? :)

    3. I like the company of my dolls, plus I enjoy looking at pretty things - so I've never kept them in their boxes, but on display shelves. I used to have the south facing bedroom with all the sunshine, but moved to the north facing one to keep my dolls in the shade. Surprisingly this has also been dangerous, as when the sun goes down, it's very low in the sky so shines directly into the room at this time of year (when the Northern part of the Earth is tilted towards the sun) So I shut the curtains before dusk, and the dolls are right at the back of the room too, just incase I forget one day!

As for dust well I am not a duster - I give them a bit of a dust when I change their clothes and I also take all their clothes and wigs out of the room and give them a good shake to get the dust off. I am a fanatical hand-washer though - I don't touch them until I've washed my hands! The good thing about keeping them out on display all the time is it limits my collection, so if there's no room to display another doll, I don't buy it - or I sell one to make room.

    4. I like having mine around with me, so when I feel like it I carry him around the house. I'm okay with the idea of him yellowing because I figure I'm never going to sell him , it can be covered up (at least partially) with blushing, and besides, I'm such a noob I don't think I'll notice anyway! XD He's not usually in direct sunlight, and I think there's been a little yellowing, maybe... I can't really tell, to tell the truth.

But it sounds like you take really good care of your dolls! If that's how you enjoy the hobby, I don't think displaying them all the time is necessary to getting the most out of it. As long as what you're doing makes you happy, right? If you do want to have them out every once in a while, maybe you could only display them for a couple hours at a time when you know you'll be around and able to put them back in their boxes?

    5. I keep my dolls in boxes most of the time. I have plans for a display case (with UV-treated glass doors to protect their resin) eventually, but at the moment there's simply no room for one. And with so many dolls, I don't think I'd really want them all out on display all the time anyway - it would be too cluttered and overwhelming! When I have the space and money for the display case, I'll be getting one with room to hold one or two dolls only, and will still keep the majority of my collection stored in boxes most of the time. I'll rotate them through my display so I can enjoy them all individually.

    6. Display. They are so good to look at. If keeping them in box I then can't see them:(

    7. Mine, and the ones from my girlfriend, are all displayed in my room.
While I always had a pair of curtains in front of my windows there was still light coming in, especially during summer.
Nowadays I have a set-up that makes it possible to completely block out light in my room, and when I'm not sitting in it the room is always pitch-black.

The majority of my dolls has aged pretty well, but some just started mellowing out.
What's usually an issue are the hands (or the tips of them) and the heads of course.
I guess the one that has yellowed the worst is my Angelsdoll body, his tan has changed from a rich orange/red tone to a more mellowed out toffee tone.
      But the body was cheap and I know their tan was prone to yellowing badly, so I'm not that surprised, and I want to toss this ugly body out anyway ^^;
Just a bit miffed that it's only his hands and neck.

The WS dolls here have aged less well, some of them started out with a yellow tone so it's not that obvious (like Spiritdoll) but the Sooms look all horrible.
Especially our Heliot looks like a lemon, at least on his painted parts.

There are two reasons why I have them displayed:
I like seeing them and having them around and having them all in their boxes would actually need more space :XD:
If they would be in their boxes all the time I just know that I would feel very disconnected. I have dolls I don't play that much with, but if they'd be stored away I would most likely never play with them and even the ones I like very much would not get out often.
Also with nearly 40 dolls having them all in their boxes would mean to have 40 boxes standing in my room, and that takes away a lot of space in a very unflattering way.
Yes, dolls age less good when they are on display, but why should I pay so much money for something I never see?

    8. I keep them in their boxes
sometime i display them in my room but i keep them hidden from the sunlight.

    9. I keep them on display, always. My curtains are always shut, to limit the amount of sunlight coming in to my room. I handle them without gloves and only clean them when they look like they could use a bath. I only put them in their box when I consider selling them and will clean them thoroughly before selling.

Like others, I need to look at them everyday. I don't have space for a display cabinet, but would like one, one day. My dolls have no harm done to their face-ups by being on display and so far, have mellowed evenly. If I would keep them in their boxes, I would lose touch with them and probably end up selling a lot.

    10. Mine are always out because it makes me happy to look at them. Helped by the fact that I have very few. If I were going to keep them in storage all the time, I wouldn't feel it was worth keeping them. (Obviously people vary on this, of course! But this is just how I feel about my toys.)

    11. I have mine sitting on display on my dresser in a chair. : >

    12. I display my dolls everywhere inside my room and normally close the lace curtain to block direct sunlight on a day. I don't like to keep my doll inside a box because I like to watch them when I'm back home and sometimes they sit near my working desk, so I can see them when I take a break from doing homework or reading. I really enjoy my life like this! :)

    13. I am not good at keeping things in boxes. It defeats the purpose of why I collect if I can't see, handle and enjoy my collection. I try to manage where I put things to avoid sun problems, but even that is not perfect.

    14. I voted "out of the box"--but I'm a bit in-between.

I don't like keeping them in the box. I like them displayed. I don't keep them in bright light though! They are in a room I mostly keep dark... but they are not in their boxes ever, and I take photos and take them to meets and cons whenever possible.

    15. I display them in my room. They sit on a shelf that I made sure was out of the sun when I placed it. I don't like putting them away unless they need to be packed for a reason. I love their company :). Without them, my room would feel so empty :(.

    16. I keep mine out. I have a doll room that stays closed all the time, so they're safe from visitors, pets, or anything else. I can't put them in boxes. I've tried boxing a few and I always end up selling the ones I box because if I can't see them regularly, I forget I have them or lose interest. I'm a very hands-on person, and to me, it would just be a total waste of money to have a doll I couldn't look at or play with, especially if it just stayed in a closet all the time. The only ones staying in the closet are the MSD versions of my first two. Not because they hold any value...they don't. They're both "cheap" dolls, both terribly yellowed and loved with damage. They just stay in the closet because I feel weird having the MSD and SD versions "meet", and the sentimental value of my firsts is much higher than their resale value.

    17. I feel that my dolls are like art I can play with! I do not have that many dolls, so mine are all displayed in a glass front cabinet in a darker room. I like being able to see them as I pass by, and they make me smile. It is also easier for me to change their looks whenever I am in the mood. I guess if I run out of room in that cabinet I will have to buy another. :)

    18. When I first got her, Alena was kept in her box purely because I found having a naked doll on display a little weird! Now she has some clothes, I have her sat on a shelf out of direct sunlight in my workroom - in fact, I don't rarely open the blinds at all in here, so it's usually quite dark.

I'm not terribly worried about her yellowing. All resin yellows with time, of course, so I'm not going to lock her away where I can't enjoy her in a vain attempt to keep her 100% pristine. I'm very careful about her being in sunlight at all (she never has been) and I line all the handmade clothing that will be in contact with her with white or cream cotton to minimise staining.

In short I do everything I can to minimise damage, and handle her carefully, but I'm not one to lock something away where I can't enjoy it - after all I spent a lot of money on her!

    19. I'm pretty much an out of sight, out of mind kind of person so I have most of my treasures (BJDs being the most prominent) displayed all over the house. My dolls are art - I make dioramas & display them (w/the curtains closed - no direct sunlight). WHY would I pay this much $$$ to never see them? I enjoy walking thru my house & seeing them, maybe adjusting them here & there, or from time to time redressing them etc. I do take lots of photos as well.

    20. For the first week or so with my first doll I put her in the box. After that I couldn't be bothered and enjoy having her sitting in my room. She never see's her box anymore.
