It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do they HAVE to have a faceup?

Dec 7, 2013

    1. Face up for me is one of the best parts. Dolls without faceup for me dont have a personality. Each doll becomes unique because of faceups. And exactly this uniquness makes this all BJD hobby so exiting and interesting.
And about the unprofessional faceup stuff...As long as the owner did it with love and likes it- thats all that matters.

    2. For me, I may as well not have a doll if it was never going to have a face. I don't buy a doll because I like it's sculpt, I buy it to shell a character and with no face, it would look a bit like the character with it's facial features burned off and there'd be no point.

    3. It can go either way for me. I personally feel like it isn't needed, and I usually tend to like non-face-up-ed dolls more because they can show more emotions/expressions. With a face-up you may be limiting yourself. On the other hand, some dolls really don't look good without a face-up and they can help portray a character better. It really does depend on a couple of factors....

    4. Personally I'd like face-up, but it's all personal taste really so it doesn't matter! Sometimes they look pretty cool with minimal face-up anyway, especially if they're a really nice sculpt. Some times I see face-ups that are quite bad, and make a really nice doll look weird or creepy, so sometimes it's a bad thing!

    5. I really feel that face up is extremely important with the finished look of most dolls. That is depending on the look you are trying to create with a doll though. I am not fond of poorly painted face ups so, I would rather the doll have no face up that a poorly done face up. Since I can't paint myself I would be lost as to how to fix mistakes. At least if the doll had no face up, it could be fixed to my liking. I do not think I could own a doll without face up for an indefinite period of time.

    6. I've seen photos of dolls that look so stunning without their faceup. As a personal preference, a blank doll is unfinished, so yes I prefer them to have one. But in general, they don't HAVE to have one. I agree with everyone else that it adds unique features to a doll as well as their character.

    7. If a doll looks better without a faceup, you're doing it wrong. (every time) Time to commission an artist :sweat

    8. Yes, they have to have a faceup for me. I think that's the prettiest/cutest part. If I have a doll that's blank for too long I'd probably just sell it. It's pretty pointless for me at that point. I see box opening videos where people will say "Oh she's so beautiful!" but then it's a blank doll and I just don't understand that. I guess it's good people can appreciate the beauty of the sculpt to that extent. I mean I can see how some sculpts can be considered quite beautiful too but I don't think I'd ever be able to get that excited over the beauty of the doll without the faceup. Of course this is just me.

    9. Yes, I think, they are, it is a most important part of the doll's look.

    10. I guess they do not have to have a face up....but to me it's very important my dolls have one. It's part of the character.
I could not own a doll without a face up. I have taken pics of some of my guys without a face (newly arrived) but I think they look...well... that's just it. They don't look. Very little to none expression in my opinion.
But you have to do wat you think is best and if a blank face does work, why not?

    11. I would say all my dolls need face up! :XD:
I feel bad if I don't give him/her a face. I myself can't do it because of lacking skill but I always send them to my favorite artist if they came without company face up.
