Do you assign a 'star sign' to your dolls?

All of my dolls have fully fleshed out characters, and having a birthday is part of it. It's usually completely unrelated to order date, CoA or arrival, since I usually have that part of the character written long before I start looking for a doll to shell them. I choose their birthday based on a few things:

-If they're inspired by a real person, I might choose the same birthdate, or at least same zodiac and/or month.
-If their character just feels like they'd prefer a certain season or month.
-If the dolls are siblings, how much of an age gap I want.
-And sometimes, it just comes down to "Huh. I don't have a doll with a June birthdate. Guess that's your month!"

The only truly consistent thing is that the day itself has to be 3, 6, 13, 16 or 26. No exceptions. Six and 13 are my lucky numbers, so anything ending in 6 is acceptable. Though I can't really explain why 3 is ok, but 23 is not. (And my birthdate is none of the above...)

 

I like giving star signs to my characters, though that has slowly stopped being important to me during the creation process. I gave birthdays to my dolls based on star signs I think they'd have, though. I've considered giving them moon and rising signs, too, but that's a lot of effort I don't feel like putting into something that's purely just for me. My favorite signs to give to characters are Gemini, Pisces, Capricorn, and Sagittarius.

 

Birthdays have always fascinated me. Even as a child, all of my toys had birthdays. I still have my white seal plushie my grandparents gave me when I was 10, his birthday is July 7 because that was my friend's birthday. It's been almost 30 years and I never forgot it. It only seemed natural to do things like that for the dolls too!

 

My doll's birthday is based off of what is on their COA. Going by that, they're a saggitarius. I don't base personalities/characters around them but I do think star signs are fun to talk about!

 

I don't. My dolls mostly have characters but not to the extent of having actual dates for birthdays. I suppose that because I don't acknowledge my own birthday it's not an important part of my doll's background either.

I don't think about star signs, but I like to give birthdays if it's relevant to the character. None of my fae based characters have them, for example.

 

I give birthdays to my dolls the day I unbox them, therefore that's the star sign they have.
Isn't a big part of their personality tho. I just do it for fun.

 

What an interesting idea! My gangs personalities are are pretty clear in my head, so I wonder if I could decipher what their signs are?

On a side note: I once did a study of Shakespeare's Hamlet doing a tarot reading for each character. Not to discover their futures of course, but using the cards as an archetype study after the ideas of Carl Jung the psychiatrist. It was surprisingly accurate and insightful bringing a new level of thought about the characters. Thanks for reminding me! I will bring this study to my dolls!

most likely in my subconscious haha! i DO have dolls with older characters that have birthdates decided (mainly just month/day, no years because usually they're fantasy characters), so they definitely do, and their sign often coincidentally matches their personality type too if i decided the bday after the personality. so thats why i say subconsciously, i'm really into astrology, so it probably influences all of the creation in some way.

now i'm going to decided on the rest of the dolls that don't have a defined birthday! not everyone has profiles/a full story or anything, so this will be a good chance to actually do some character building for some of the more neglected dolls hehe

 

I definitely do! I don't really believe on it for myself but as another tool for character building, it's got a point. I usually use the date the dolls came home to define their birthday and therefore their star sign. It doesn't always fit what I had though for the doll, though.

 

I used to do it a lot... all my dolls had star signs and birthdays that I assigned according to the dolls' personalities. It was fun, just another way to bond with them and get to know them. I didn't do it for a long while but funnily enough the other day I was filling out a database entry for my newest doll just like back in the day, and one of the suggested fields was birthday, so I googled some zodiac traits and chose a sign and birthday for her just like I used to do. @idrisfynn she's a Gemini too!

 

I like the idea of assigning birthdays based on a doll's order or arrival date! Generally my characters have birthdays already, so I would use those, but... reading this is making me realise none of the characters I have dolls for actually have birthdays! (I think I overlooked it because most of them are immortal.) I'm going to have to fix that! Maybe I'll give some of them birthdays based on order or arrival date, who knows. I'll have to see how well they fit!

Related to the point, I tend to assign birthdays to characters based first on season, then zodiac sign, then a huge birthday book I have that assigns a bunch of relatively arbitrary traits based on your exact birthday, just because it's fun. I'll definitely be going through it for my dolls soon!

 

I used to look up the star sign for my dolls based on their arrival date, which I use as their birthday. It was one of the things I would note down in the doll profiles I made for them. I haven't made profiles for any of my more recent dolls. This is making me want to do it again and find out what all their star signs are (I also used to give them Hogwarts houses haha)

 

I do not. I don't have personalities or characters for any of my dolls either though. For now the most I pick is a name and a preferred fashion style.
