It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do you believe that some owners mistreat their dolls?

Jun 9, 2008

    1. Tis reminds me of some owners keep sending their dolls for new face ups every few weeks.
as u knoe, when face up is changed , a liquid is to be applied to remove the previous face ups (forget the name of liquid). and tis process tends to eat up some resin of the dolls.

    2. I'm not sure what you're talking about-is it acetone? Because that's not one of the things that is recommended to use. There are completely safe things (like Winsor and Newton brush cleaner) that you can use to very effectively wipe faceups.

    3. I have a few Pukis now, and a SD on the way. Beautiful dolls, wonderful hobby!

I was browsing online and was shocked at all the people that completely TRASH their dolls. Spray paint them, permanent markers, gluing things to their perfect faces.. I saw one with duct tape as a dress. wtf? Not only are they expensive, they are collectibles.....

Anyone else feel me here? It makes me so sad...

      :...(

I set mine up on my shelf, and sometimes near my computer when I'm busy.

I dress them once, certain wig and eyes, their own outfit, give them a name of course, and leave that be as their character with little or no changes at all... Anyone else do that? :aheartbea

Edit: I do pose them ALL the time, you gotta love that!!
Editedit: I DO play with my dolls D: Just in a respectable way; shelf as in, when I'm not playing with them, they are on display instead of in a box or something. Now I sound obvious. I like how they look on the shelf.. so pretty *3*

    4. heh. No. I play with my dolls. I do NOT ruin them, but I enjoy changing their clothes, wigs, shoes, sewing for them, and posing them for photoshoots to make comics. The ball joints make them interactive; they are meant to be played with. I really don't mind if face-ups are damaged because they can be fixed or re-done. Glue comes off. So does a duct tape dress. Even spray paint can be removed.

Are they really a "collectible", even? Sure, limiteds are collectible (in the sit it on the shelf, NRFB kind of way), but the majority of dolls are merely expensive. Customization is the allure to many in this hobby.

    5. I'm not at all shocked when people do what they wish to do with their dolls, whether it be add piercings, tattoes or whatever. At the end of the day, it is their doll, they paid for it and so it is theirs to do with as they wish.

I like to change my dolls clothes regularly, try out different wigs and eyes and play with them, put them in little groups and scenes and photograph them. They may well be expensive but to me they are still 'dolls' and are made to be enjoyed, however you wish to enjoy them.

For you, it may be perfect to put them on a shelf and look at them, that is how you enjoy them, but each and every person enjoys them in their own way.

    6. I do that .I tend to have a character in mind
or I will swap and change untill I get the look I want ..then they will stop like it
some of my dolls have never changed

but I will also get a look thats my own ..or I will try to ..
I dont like my dolls looking like someone else's

but the beauty of this hobby is the variety and how you can change the look of a doll by repainting it ..Puki and Narea are prime examples ...they are so versatile ..I dont think I have ever seen 2 the same
by modding it , swaping the eyes , wigs , you can be so individual

although they are expensive ..they are pretty tough ..its it tough to actually trash a doll ...most mods can be reversible ..and there are people out there who spend hours doing just that ..and you can do wonders with PVA glue ...:)which is reversible

and at the end of the day
...its their money ..their dolly ...:D and they love them ...what you see as trashing ...is the love of someones life ..and a labour of love ..on their part create it
so its not trashing it ...its creating their perfect character :D
and a big part of this hobby :aheartbea

and welcome to the group sweetie ...its a fab group ...Im sure you will enjoy it here
there are such a lot of collectors and enthusiasts here ..you see all sorts :aheartbea

    7. That utterly shocks me...

I love to play with my dolls...their wigs don't change really and nor do their faceups...but their clothes change like...everyday ;)

I only have tinies...so the Pukis have their dollhouse...and I love to bring my dolls with me places when I can...and yes I do love to photograph them; my dogs are jealous :D

    8. Well, I figured Pukis would be collectibles, since there has been revises, limited editions, and rares, just like any other doll company, like you said; even though they are teeny tiny!

I agree that people can do what they wish, since it is their doll with their money... sure.. but it still gives me an irk... most likely because I treasure these dolls, and it makes me gasp when someone disrespects that.. ya know? :sweat

    9. I think that the beauty of BJD dolls are that they can be played with and modified. Would I 'trash' mine? No I wouldn't as that's not to my taste, but if it's someone else's doll, then it's up to them what they do with it.

I think tinies demand to be played with, I have too many bigger dolls which just sit looking pretty, my tinies ask for houses, accessories and playtime :)

    10. Perhaps, it just kills me to see some of them chopped up. I guess it is more of a value to me because I can't, ya know, poop out $300 for the perfect 5 inch doll any day!! I did see one doll that was "punked out" with piercings a really cool looking tattoo on the arm, well done.. and the wig was wild, and you can tell the face was severely altered, but for them I bet indeed it was a labor of love!! <3

And thanks alot! I love it here. My friend showed me.. after I had seen pics of her puki dolls online, I instantly was attracted!! Earlier today my mother was ecstatic on the phone with my new found love of dolls, because she had a pop of doll love at exactly my age (23). Weirdness.

      <3

    11. Oh, please don't get me wrong!
Of course I play with my dolls =^.^=

    12. No..dolls are meant to be played with and I do just that..changing wigs and eyes, sewing and crocheting for them, taking pictures of them and buying them little goodies.
I feel sad when I see dolls just sitting on a shelf!

    13. *Cries* I mentioned a ton of times, I DO play with them!

But I see what you mean by shelf-life ;D

    14. I love these dolls because they were meant to actually be customized and played with. I have antique dolls that I love, but their original clothing is too fragile to remove, and fashion dolls that are lovely, but too stiff to pose. I dip my dolls in dye (well, a couple of them), change my dolls clothes, repaint their faces, arrange them in vignettes, and photograph them. The one thing I will not do is put them on a shelf or in a glass case right out of their box and just look at them. I know that there are people whose idea of collecting bjd's is to keep them new and perfect, or even new in their boxes (I know several collectors like that), and I respect their right to do as they please, but I would rather play with mine. I don't think of them as "collectibles", but as toys.

    15. You're right.. I agree actually! When it gets down to it, really, they are lovable toys! ^___^

    16. That's a really good point :sweat

    17. Especially my tinies, I think of as toys. They're way less expensive than my big ones and although I customize the big ones too, I would probably never dye one of them because it's too big a job.

    18. Usagi: I didn't get you wrong lol...I was answering the topic question :aheartbea

Sweetiemom: For the most part, my Baha looks pretty...sitting in front of my TV...esp. if she's wearing her Carla Benham dress :) It's just...what she does lol. It's hard to play with a Baha although I do have some cat toys for her.

    19. Don't, I'm sure no one is thinking that of you. But do realize...you did make some pretty strong statements in your post. It's logical to expect reaction to that, and not always in agreement. It's all a part of mature discussion.

Yes, people do some things with their dolls that I personally question. But I know that beauty to one is not necessarily beauty to another. Yes, they're expensive (relatively), but I've seen people do incredibly puzzling things with much more expensive items (houses, cars, etc), so if that's how they want to spend their money, who am I to judge? Besides, what is "expensive" to one may not be so much to someone else. We all have different personal economies.

People view their dolls differently...you see them as collectibles. Some see them as "children". Others see them as opportunity for creative expression. Or as clothing display models. Or simply toys that are pretty. Some clean them fastidiously, others do not. Some people feel that being in the creative process (sanding/stringing/desiging/faceup/etc) is imperative, others prefer them to stay pristine in one version from the manufacturer. And yes, we have a local collector that uses electrical tape for clothing (and she has the most fantastically creative dolls, imho). All of these attitudes are fine--it's how they enjoy their dolls. To each his own.

Welcome to the Tinys forum. As tinybear said, it's a great group.

    20. I do have quite a few tinies that I consider to be perfect just as they came out of the box and I leave them alone. I bought two Bongs and two Mins (not the first editions of them) just so I could mod one of them and also have an unmodded one. Whatever floats your boat. The main thing is to have fun with them, whatever that means to each person.
