1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you believe that some owners mistreat their dolls?

Jun 9, 2008

    1. I don't think wear and tear on dolls should be called mistreating them. I mean if they're being enjoyed overall, I think its perfectly fine. Even if love for your doll is in someone's basement half way across the world, as long as you're enjoying it more power to you.

I may think it's a waste, and you may think my way of enjoying my dolls is a waste. We're both right and we're both wrong. Neither's the correct way and neither's the wrong way.

However if you're not enjoying your dolls in some way shape or form why do you even have them?

    2. Personnaly, what others do with their dolls isn't my problem at all, not my money, not my dolls, not my life. They can do what they want with, bad products, bad treatment .... if they are enough "stupid" to do some bad things that will hurt the doll ... that's just not only about doll there, they surely mistreat their clothes, bags, furnitures and such. You really can't do much about this, except maybe, "save" the doll ?!

I don't think this has something to do with price either. My Ryu cost me 64$ ( shipping inside), my incoming doll cost a few hundreds of Dollars, I won't care more about my BJD than my ABS doll ... I love and care for my Ryu and treat him as if he was made of crystal and I will do the same to my BJD. But don't worry, I have fun with my Ryu, I made him his face up, clothes, furnitures, wig and I enjoy so much to have him, no matter his price, each time someone approach him, I'm the hell protective. I'm making clothes and all for my incoming BJD and I'm excited to see my Ryu and my BJD together.

Price mean nothing. It all depends from the person owning the doll, nothing more.

    3. I'll admit that it makes a little sad when I see a doll sculpt I like particularly well not being taken care of (to the same standards that I care for my dolls) but I realize that everyone has the right to treat their own dolls as they please.

    4. I find some of you guys pitifully wrong. You claim that dolls or objects do not live, just cause they cannot move, communicate like us, how would you know that inside they actually aren't suffering? Are you an object yourself?

But for me, abuse is something...I cannot explain, sorry, but if people want to toss or leave their doll in the sun or whatever, it's their own bloody fault they cannot appreciate something so wonderful. And these things cost a lot damnit. But I do not care because it is not my doll, and I don't think anyone else should care either, unless you treat your dolls like that too. But seriously, if you do toss it about, I suggest you do not collect ANY type of doll at all cause you are not capable to have one, you wont even deserve one.

    5. If someone buys a doll, it's theirs and they can do what they like with it. Some only want them to play with, so it's understandable that they'll take some abuse. Others treasure their dolls and keep them locked up and safe. Some people just try to care for their expensive toys...
Abuse is certainly the wrong word. Irresponsibility is more accurate, I think. Either way, it's really up to you how you treat your dolls.

    6. The requirements that must be met for something to be considered living:
-Homeostasis (ability to keep internal systems balanced or at a constant state eg body temperature)
-Organisation (being composed of organised units, ie cells)
-Metabolism (ability to create energy from food sources)
-Growth (ability to grow in size)
-Adaptation (changing to suit one's environment)
-Response to stimuli (pain reflex, growing towards light in plants)
-Reproduction (making more of the same ilk, either sexually or asexually)

Last time I checked none of my dolls can do any of the above. Therefore they are not alive or feel pain.

    7. NosKryme: You may think it's a joke, but you have to understand that a lot of people feel sentimental about their dolls, so they get this emotional response when they see dolls broken or otherwise not being looked after, so they probably wouldn't appreciate you mocking them. :daisy:

    8. If it was people and their own dolls I wouldn't care if it is intentional or not, it wouldn't bother me just due to the fact that it is their own doll. If they intentionally destroyed my own property, then and only then would I take offense.

Also NosKryme, You really should get off your high horse. You might finally be a teenager but here, there are people even in their 50's who do know quite more then you so you should respect your elders and the people who have been here longer then you.

    9. And I find you hilariously wrong. I feel the urge to burst into Pocahontas' song now. Anyhow, if you're aiming for satire, I don't think you're quite getting there. I'll just presume you're being serious for now.

Your argument is really very faulty. It's like saying, "How do you know a dog/cat/monkey is alive? Are you a dog/cat/monkey yourself?"

As Latte put forth, there is actually a list of requirements to fulfill to be considered living. You will learn this if you've taken Biology. ^_^

    10. I'm thinking that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern must definitely not have appreciated that hot glue sueding, then.

Anyway; my own definition of doll mistreatment is when people treat their expensive pieces of plastic like an inexpensive rag doll that a five-year-old does everything with.

    11. "I think, therefore I am."

Undoubtfully my dolls can't think for I invaded their 'mindspace' multiple times when changing their eyesssss.
*sniffs* I wish my dolls could reproduce at will... Would make the need to buy more dolls much cheaper...

But yeah, the fact is, they're not anymore alive than a mobile phone or Ipod or a TV.

    12. NosKryme:

You need to realize that people enjoy things in different ways. Some people like to keep their dolls in the boxes, while others like a more hands on relationship with their dolls. For you to claim others are "pitifully wrong" because they don't necessarily agree with your point of view is not the way to maturely handle a debate. Also, this thread is about whether or not you think owners mistreat their dolls, not whether dolls have souls or feelings.

Also, please clarify what you mean by "toss it about". Are you talking about those who throw their dolls against the wall or those who carry them about? Realize that there is a big difference between the two, and you risk insulting most of this forum by insinuating that it is the latter.

I like to take my dolls outside with me. I try to limit their exposure to sunlight, but I know that eventually they will yellow just like eventually my hair will turn gray and my skin will wrinkle. I know that I will love my dolls regardless just as I hope my loved ones will love me when I look older!

    13. If my dolls want to receive better treatment then they (as presumably living beings if they can suffer) can get jobs and move out on their own. Until that day they will put up with whatever pond I choose to put them in next. :mwahaha

    14. Pretty much.
Sometimes I'll look down and give a wierd look if there foot is reversed or something and quietly fix it, or feel bad is they fall over, but that's as far as I go.

    15. Ha ha ha...exactly! :XD:

Well...I'd be sad if they moved out, but getting jobs & paying for their own clothes/wigs/etc. is something I would certainly welcome! ;)

I think it's a waste when people buy things and then do things they (should) know will intentionally damage them but hey...it's their $$$.

    16. Lmfao they're plastic dolls, dearie.
And scientifically, they aren't living, lrn2facts.

You say you don't care because it's not your doll, but by that patronizing post, you clearly do. Let people treat their own property how they want and don't make such a fuss about it.

    17. midnightpariah- My feelings mirror your own, well put!

    18. That's what I think too. It's unfortunate to see people not really care about their own stuff, but it's also their money. :?

    19. AMEN!!!!!! I know some people could think im crazy because i was spinning Judas by his hand yesterday and that i pick up my boys by their hands and arms all the time *shrugs*

theres no dollie DCF (depratment of children and families) so why say who is mistreating their dolls and who isnt? cant really be arrested for resin abuse after all. we may not really like it, but we shouldnt judge them as a bad doll owner...

    20. I guess my only definition of mistreating a doll is if they are not careful with it on purpose. D: That's very vague, but I can't make it any more, well, focused, because I'm afraid someone will misinterpret and it'll lead to a misunderstanding. D:
