Do you believe that some owners mistreat their dolls?

Jun 9, 2008

    1. I also agree with this.

      I really dislike it when someone buys something super expensive, just to trash it for a different reason. I think it's wasteful. I think of other people who could have benefited from the item, but can't now because it's been destroyed.

    2. It's no one else's business what happens to a doll in an owners care. Child abuse and spousal abuse is a sleeping giant in our commities and it goes largely un reported and un noticed. In stead of fixiting on a piece of resin (no matter how beautiful) is just moraly wrong.

      If some one wants to set fire to a bjd, jump on the ashes. And stick the melted eyes on thier fingers that's thier business. If they abuse the child watching, that's ours. And we should all be more vigilant and vocal about the abuse we see around us and ignore.

    3. Couldn't have said it better.

    4. While I largely agree with this sentiment, I do have a couple of issues. I don't believe that someone who would go to extremes with the "abuse" of a doll is someone to just ignore. Sharpie face-up is one thing, extreme (and/or badly done) mods are one thing...but when someone starts wanting to burn and otherwise destroy a doll for the sake of destroying the doll, that raises my eyebrow.

      These dolls can look incredibly lifelike. I've had people comment more than once on my photos, mentioning that the doll looked so close to human they had to look multiple times to tell it was a doll, and it's not because I've photoshopped the joints or otherwise processed the photo to hide them -- they're just very lifelike. While a doll owner is free to do whatever they want to their doll, if they're willing to inflict serious harm on them, to the point of complete and intentional destruction, THAT makes me wonder what else they're doing or contemplating doing, possibly to a living human being.

      It's not a reason to condem them, but it is a reason to keep a closer eye on them, imo.

    5. I think if someone wants to spend a lot of money on a doll just to destroy/mistreat it beyond reason, that's sad. I don't know if I'd call it abuse, but it does seem senseless and wasteful.

    6. I'm going the second what many have already said, I don't think that a doll can be abused, but I do think that they can be mis-treated. That being said, while it is a shame that some people don't treat the doll the same way I would, I don't get to play dollie police and tell them that they are wrong for doing so. I may think to myself or say to someone else that it really is a shame that something so realistic has badly done gore mods or some extremely terrible face up or a damaged limb, but unless they've somehow done it to my doll without my consent, I really can't/won't/shouldn't do anything about it.

    7. I understand the question, in my case I take care alot at extreme xD, are expensive ok but I have feeling for my dolls if get broken not is simple for me buy another to solve, is more that so. I try to do a balance not extreme care but not neglect.

    8. I think people should take care of their dolls, especially because it is an expensive hobby. Some "people" are just slobs, or lazy, or don't care about dolls after they buy them... but that is their choice. I personally don't like people like that, but to each his/her own.

    9. LMAO...{{{ aplause }}} I'm cracking up! wow!! yeah! I never heard this about "dollie abuse"!
      Of course it is sad, as doll collectors and lovers, when we find a BJD in bad condition due to mistreating! I don't mistreat my dolls, of course, I pay big money for them and I love them...but what if I want to do those above mentioned things and others, they are MY dolls ! Abuse would be if mistreated that hard someone else's dolly!!!!

    10. Yeah I'm sure there are people out there who don't treat their bjds like they were meant to be treated :P I mean people who practice mods on LE dolls, stuff like that. People who burn their dolls (and aren't experienced) people who toss their doll around as if it weren't over a hundred dollar object. People who never clean their dolls, the list goes on :P

    11. If someone mistreats a doll they spent so much money on, so be it.. I can't stop them, I just know I would never do the same.. And if they dislike it so badly(or they're completely iggnorant and don't know how to take care of it- which is anotehr story) I would be more than happy to take said doll away from them....
      And then give it a loving home.

    12. Well I've heard a horror story from my friend. Apparently, this person has like 30 limited edition bjds and uses markers to draw on some of them o_o;; I tink face and arms, omg. What a waste of limited face ups Q.Q I think that person gets these dolls from her parents' money, so I can understand why... I would never ruin a face up with markers ._. Unless I was a professional face-up artist, and even so, I will use proper materials :X

    13. Do you know for a *fact* that these dolls are being ruined, or is she just adding to it?

    14. If the dolls are "mistreated" I'd see it as more of a waste of money. But some things that owners do to their dolls, that in their own way is their way of treating their dolls well, makes me more uncomfortable than seeing how some owners "mistreat" their dolls. I don't know if i'm making any sense ^^;;

    15. some people just don't take care of their things very well.. I think there are people that probably miss treat their dolls... but it is their possession after all and they may do with it as they please..

    16. If you have a new doll and you're not familiar with it's distribution of weight or the limits of it's posing... You know, accidents happen. I was trying to pose my taeyang and I pushed his arm to hard, it shot across the room O_O

      However, doing things like that over and over, may you realize you are are mistreating the doll or not, definately constitutes as doll abuse. Sometimes, though, it may just be a case of carelessness or forgetfulness.

      There are people that do not treat their things with proper respect. When I was little, I would go over to my friends house, and almost all her toys were broken/missing peices/drawn on, and while it may be ok for children to mistreat toys, it is not okay for a mature person to mistreat an expensive doll. How could you? How could you ruin something that costs so much money? I have always been careful with all of my belongings. I really go to great lengths to make sure my things are in a good place where they will not be broken or stolen, cheap or expensive

      Though I suppose most of the time these situations of abuse are unintentional and a result of ignorance towards the responsibility of having a doll and how to properly take care of it.

    17. im probly considered an abusive owner, i tell people how much they cost then they gasp then im like lol -drops doll on floor on purpose- but my reasoning is:
      1 hes a cheap bobobie
      2 hes mine i will never get rid of him
      3 whatever could break i cna most likely fix
      4 main reason I SPENT ALL THAT MONEY IM GOING TO GET THE MOST ENJOYMENT OUT OF MY DOLL AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE, wich means lots of handling and taking him places and some "abuse" but im not stupid id never throw him out a windo or anything

      but OMG when i get my other boys body, no way in hell am i doing it. so much more expensive.

      tl:dr, its my doll, playing rough with it wont kill anybody, but i woudnt do it with a more expensive doll. its probly a cost issue

    18. I find it wasteful just to spend money on something you're going to throw against a wall, use as a firestarter, or things of the like. That's just senseless. But if someone is really that inclined to break something they spent money on, I just grit my teeth and turn my head. It's not like we can call some doll form of CPS on them. As much as it bothers me that someone would think about doing that, I'm more worried about the children in this society being smacked around.

    19. Wasteful, yah. I'm working on fixing up a volks 1-off that my friend got used from japan. They may have a reputation for treating their dolls well, but this particular doll looked like someone sanded off the face and redid it with poster paints.

      I hear my mom's voice telling me there are starving children in Africa in my head every time I come across stuff like that ^^;

    20. I don't think I would call it abuse since it's not a living object. You do however have to be careful with these dolls because they are costly and are "sensitive" to certain materials. If someone is just buying a doll to be "cool" then I don't think they should own the doll.
