It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you believe that some owners mistreat their dolls?

Jun 9, 2008

    1. The doll may be damaged beyond repair...but there may be people who are able to solve almost everything.

Well, perhaps not, if you have baked the plastic doll in your oven. Then its really only for the bin.

Otherwise, there you can put it up as said "Pay postage only". Or take the time and look a bit through the "Newbieland". Perhaps there are people deparately looking for their first BJD, are a bit experienced in repairs, and would be happy with the doll you do not want any longer.

Just my two cents, of course. Even its a badly constructed one, mediocre poser, still someone else might be happy about it.

Okay, that's enough for now. Otherwise of course still everybody can do with his or her investments whatever they please.

    2. I'd just like to say it's been a bit of an uproar not because they were said to be thrown away but because they didn't 'bother' to sell it. It is fair enough that a mod that is damaged and broken and beyond selling then fine. That's the only reason there has been a bit of a fuss about it.

"when I'm disappointed with an item, it doesn't live up to my expectations, or I'm just bored with it, I get rid of it. Most of the time I don't even bother to sell it, I just throw it away in the trash. By now 3 dolls and numerous (head, fantasy) parts have found their way to the dump-site."

      Just clarafying that.

At the end of the day, someone has paid for the doll, if they wish to throw it away, then they can, it is theres.

    3. Yeah, maybe. But I think its hard to throw it in the face of people who saved hard hundreds of dollars (included myself), to throw away dolls who obviously just did not "live up to expectations". Not damaged, not broken - just not what he or she wanted.

Julian also could not stand. And I did bother to mod the hell out of him. Now he "lives up to my expectations". Sure, I can never sell him.

Posts like this just make me sad. Why not open a section in the sales forum for such cases? For unwanted hands, heads, bodies, fantasy parts...or dolls which "live not up to expectations".

    4. Oh I'm not trying to upset you >< It shocked me as well. I know how you feel.

Some people can just afford to do that :( I bloody wish I could XD I've had three jobs at one point to pay for the hobby.

I think people are probably happier to sell them, I know there was a girl giving away dolly things a while back, she got her inbox full instantly XD

This is just one instance tbh, there are loads of people in the hobby and with all the people in the world someone is bound to have thrown a doll out.

    5. My words regarding this, in fact, were merely an answer to sahoma, who said:
Something we do everyday. We are taught by our society to be consumers, and that means that we accumulate things. Do you want to keep everything? Just because it is worth money? Things many people in industrial countries throw out, like milk went sour (which can be eaten or drunk anyways, providing calories), or clothing that has holes in it (can be still worn with the holes just mended), candy wrappers (if they are of a light colour you can at least use them for writing notes on them! LOL) or broken things (can be fixed or used as something else) might be considered useful, and in some places or for some people worth money... But if you (general you) keep everything, soon you'll end up as a messie.

They also didn't mention that the doll was unmodded. We don't know anything about the dolls in question. I was a bit shocked by kuroshi's statement at first too, but the more I think of it the more I think being that shocked by a thrown-out doll or two is funny considering we live in a "throw-out" society where even cars get thrown out. Functionable cars. They cost more, you know?

This is probably very honourable and good of you. But since I don't know you in real life - just like I don't know kuroshi... I don't know what you consider damaged beyond repair, and hence don't want to judge if what you do is good or bad in reality.

In no way did kuroshi state that the dolls in question were not damaged. Maybe they meant "not living up to their expectations in being able to be modded"?

Now to clarify: I don't think that you all are "wrong", or that kuroshi is "right", or anything. You might think that I am just your typical advocatus diaboli... But in reality I just think that judging is something done too much and too often in our world.

    6. Good trolling good trolling *Claps for you*

Even if you weren't trolling and this happens to be true, *Claps, applause.* Good for you, you obviously know your worth by throwing hundreds of dollars worth of Resin into the Trash. And I simply don't care what you do with your dolls, they are your dolls, your money.

      ----

But seriously, Let's stop being shocked at this commenter/possible troll and move on with the topic?
Remember, Trolls post outrageous comments to get a rise of out people, it's part of their sick enjoyment to ruffle the feathers of other people.

So, don't feed the troll, ignore the comments or any fether comments and they will go away once they see they no longer get the reaction they want.

      (( Back on Topic ))

In my opinion, what I consider doll abuse is when then doll is either neglected for a long time as a unfinished product. (Ei: a blank floating head that sit for months in a storage never seeing the light of day.)

Or the doll had been modded or purposely broken beyond repair and no effort made to repair it or re-home it to another person who would be willing to repair it.

Rough treatment is matter personal opinion. Unless your hitting another person with it, It's your doll, your money.

    7. If people are careless with their dolls that is their own fault. In the end, it is their money and what they want to do with their money is up to them. While I wonder why some may be careless to the point where it's silly in another's point-of-view, it really is that owner's choice and there isn't much of a reason for it to upset me.

    8.
    9. Throwing a BJD into the trash just because it didn't live up to the vision? Wow-- first-world problems.

    10.
    11. I think you can't accuse someone of MIStreating their doll. The way someone treats their doll is their own choice. If they want to drag around their $500 BJD by the limbs then its their decision. I think it also depends on the owner's personality. I'm careless in general but when it comes to BJDs I'm quite fussy :). Some people might not even be aware that they are being careless with their BJD. I doubt anyone would 'abuse' their doll on purpose, knowing what they are doing is going to damage the doll.

    12. I honestly would not be surprised if someone threw away a BJD just because it did not live up to some sort of expectation... If they want to throw away something they spent that much money on and now go through a little effort to resell and get some of that money back... well that to me says one lacks respect for this hobby... but they can do what they want with it.

Once you buy the doll, it is yours to do as you see fit, unless you see fit to go smacking people in the face with it... then you've gone from "playing with your doll" to assault. You wanna scribble on it with a sharpie, you go right ahead; I'm not losing money over it.

    13. ive heard horrible storied..but mostly i dont think ppl pay thousands of dollars to destroy something. lazy ppl who dont know better and are to eager or lazy to actually read about this stuff..or maybe some just assume that you can do whatever, that resin is just a plastic and that its not that complicated. i think thats how i thought some years ago, before i got into the hobby. but i myself started reading about faceups and such 2 years before i got my first doll, so i can only guess..

    14. One person's 'abuse' is another person's play. I think that everyone in this hobby cares a great deal about the dolls they keep, otherwise why would they spend so much money on them? I shudder a little at the idea of taking a Dremel to my dolls while others are in horror that I let my doll 'help' paint the walls and let my three year old handle them. But I would never say someone who did mods didn't care about their dolls just because I personally feel uncomfortable. Everyone enjoys the hobby differently, but I don't think anyone can mistreat a doll if they're happy with it.

    15. That's the first thing that popped up into my mind.

Well,Personally I've never seen anyone "abuse" their dolls. Considering how much money people put into it....I don't see why you'd just throw $300-$1000+ into the trash. For me, that does blow my mind but at the end of the day, people may do whatever they want with their possessions. You want to throw hundreds of dollars away? Go for it. You want to break apart your doll just for the heck of it? Go for it. It's your money, not mine!

    16. Abuse is a big word...I take my doll in the sun sometimes in order to take pictures for him, and I don't think I'm abusing him...though I believe some owners are mistreating their dolls. I saw a group of pictures online today that a DD owner takes photos of his naked doll with body blushing very provocative poses and I really think that's abuse.

    17. I definitely do think there are dollie "abusers" out there haha. I just received a doll from ebay that I bought just because she was a "fixer-upper." haha. She had different hands for her body that are not original because her original hands were broken (I have them too and I plan on restoring them/buying new ones for her sculpt to match). Her nipples have been sanded off, a bad DIY blushing had been done. Her resin was rough because of the wrong kind of sealer used. Her faceup was pretty, so I left it alone, but the blusing on her face mader her look like a clown. Some bad stringing was done (her torso was especially floppy and was completely strung wrong). So I got my husband to restring her, grabbed a Mr. Clean magic eraser and got to work on her body and some of her face-up. She is beautiful now and I am working on getting an update done on her faceup.

The reason why I bought her in the first place was because I felt the need to adopt her and fix her, the poor girl. And I am planning on doing that again if I ever see another "abused" dollie like her for sale.

I think people who ruin dolls like that should hang up the hobby and try something else. Or get a professional to do stuff if they don't know what they are doing. I may sound harsh, but it really is sad to see such beautiful dolls get mistreated.

    18. Some people are careless with their possessions.

I try to be careful with mine, but I am the kind of person who is always accidentally knocking things over so I've been hesitant to actually get an expensive resin doll...

    19. Remember, there are other kinds of abuse besides physical abuse ... I have to confess (and I'm not proud of this), I have tormented my poor Freezia by calling her "Derp-Face". I shudder to think of her future psychotherapy bills.

    20. Ok Ok Everybody, Listen up!

I'm from Dolly protective services, if you know of somone comitting this hienus abuse to there dolls don't hesetate to Privite message me.

I will go straight round and take the said dollies in to protective custardy.

      This will not be tollorated.

So don't think you can even shout at your doll anymore.
