1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you care if other people like your doll?

Feb 9, 2011

    1. A lot of people have told me that my dolls are weird, creepy, or ugly but it doesn't bother me. It would bother me if another doll collector said it because they know about how much care and hard work you put into a doll. A doll collector has never said that to me though, thankfully.

    2. My family thinks its weird but like you said.... I wouldn't want another collector telling me my doll is stupid. It's just rude and upsetting.

    3. No. People can say what they want, but I bought my doll because I loved him and he makes me happy. That's all that matters. My parents think he's pretty weird and my mom always calls him creepy, and sure, it bothers me a little bit (because I mean, they're my family and I want them to approve of my choices), but in the end, the happiness he gives me far outweighs what other people think. As for strangers, I couldn't care less if some people call him weird/creepy/whatever.

    4. Yes and no. I like my dolls being appreciated by other people. I think it's nice when I get complements on my dolls. I only have this from my boyfriend, people in my theatre community, and the doll community though. Outside of them, people don't know I have dolls, including my family. I don't care about people that don't get what I am doing's opinion.

    5. No. I do love when someone else loves or appreciates my doll or their styling, I enjoy conversing with them about our mutual artistic or "dolly" views, but that does not influence how I paint or style my dolls. For instance, I can do a very bland beautiful "normal" faceup, but my choice is usually more painterly or stylized. I realize that other people don't always like this, but that's OK. It's just like any other art form, you have to create how you feel. If how you feel pleases the masses, that is also fine.
My Best Dolly Friend and I have very dissimilar tastes, and she has called my dolls creepy on more than one occasion, I get her back by calling her boys fey. I think that you have to be able to laugh at yourself on a lot of levels, I mean we are playing with dolls here.

    6. Nope, lol I sure don't care what other people think of my hunk of resin. I don't buy things that are meant for my enjoyment based on the opinions of other people. As far as unpopular sculpts, if it fits what I'm trying to do with the doll then sure I'll get it, if not then no... For example: I want a Bobobie Ophelia on the Resinsoul Xue body 'cause I love the wonk in her sculpt and them buckteef

    7. its nice if others do but i love him for him so i dont need others to like him, but i do like the fact if others do yes

    8. For most people I don't care if they like my dolls or not. I know that most people will find them creepy and I'm okay with that. The only person who's opinion really matters is my husband's, and that's only a little bit .:sweat

    9. i dont care if others dont like them the most imprtent thing is that i like them beacuse they will be mine and no one ellses ^w^

    10. Not even the slightest. -I- love them and they make -me- happy. That's all that really matters.

    11. I think I'm more the other way around. For ever so long people tend to tell me that I'm "weird" so I got very used to the idea that most of the things I do and like seem odd to others.
Joining dolls communities has been a little strange for me, for suddenly there was people who liked my "weird stuff". LOL that was unsettling for a while.
So normally I don't care what other people think, but it's kind of nice (and always a surprise) when other people like them too.

    12. I think deep down we all want our dolls to be accepted... even liked by others, and it can hurt when you think you have the coolest doll ever, and you post pictures and the feedback is less than favorable or there are NO comments where you are sure the "if you don't have anything nice to say, then say nothing at all" has applied to your doll... but the bottom line of it is, I buy my dolls for me, not for anyone else. There may be 1 doll that your family isn't fond of, but I am sure there are others that they love so I don't see any problem getting a doll that speaks to you and you only... who knows... once you get the doll and create it's persona, they may come to love it after all!

      I say GO FOR IT!

    13. I think I should pick the doll I want so I won't have much regrets. I won't really change my mind unless people are pointing out something that I won't like which I have not noticed yet.

I might regret it more if I did not go for it then lose the chance to get the doll later because it is no longer in stock. :(

    14. i dont care when non-doll people dislike my doll
      but its easy to feel left out with other members of the hobby, particularly when you don't have photography/shop skills ;;

    15. I have plenty of friends who find my hobby creepy, but I don't care about what anyone says about my dolls or my opinions on sculpts. My husband and I don't even agree on every sculpt. Some of the things he likes I find interesting and occasionally off putting and vise versa, but it doesn't matter. The beauty of this hobby is that everyone has different opinions on what they like and seeing something you may have never gone out of your way to find may change your opinion or open you up to new styles of BJD.

No matter what anyone says though, if you love this hobby and love your dolls, just ignore the haters.

    16. You can't please everyone and unless they are willing to pay for your dolls & stuff.. then it's simply their opinion.

I'm really drawn to Volks dolls & faces bc they look so innocent.. but not everyone likes them. Some go a little overboard in their dislike.. but what can you do.

I don't like to see/read about other people's dolls being trashed .. bc I know I would not want anyone doing that to my girls.

    17. I guess I'm kind of lucky my fiance doesn't care enough to have an opinion on what they look like. I think though if I showed him a doll and he said it gave him the creeps I'd probably not buy it because it's my fiance's home too and it isn't fair on me to make him uncomfortable in it. However, if he just said he thought it was ugly or whatever and I disagreed I'd buy the doll because it's MY hobby and other people's opinions on it doesn't matter to me.

    18. Sadly, yes. That's the reason why i don't show them or not talk about them.. because sometimes people says they are weird, look sad, or i don't know. I try not to care about it but it's hard ^^

    19. Overall no.. I don't care. As long as I love it. I do take in consideration the more odd/different sculpts will be harder to resell so I do think carefully about if I really want them or not. Mainly knowing that it would take me a while to find someone else that liked the more unpopular sculpt.

    20. It would upset me if someone I cared about said they found one of my dolls ugly or anything along those lines, dolls are something that can reflect your personality and the things you love so it would feel like a direct insult. It would not stop me buying a doll, I will always go for what makes me happy even if others don't agree.
