Do you change your doll's wigs and eyes?

Dec 10, 2005

    1. I have never changed Tabby or Leo's eyes (Tabby because they're an adorable brown and Leo because I can't be bothered to get into his weird headcap) but I change Toreth's a lot. Lati sent her with blue eyes, and I had some eyes that I made in there for a while, but now they're green and I probably won't change them unless I can get some higher-quality greens (these are acrylic and I'd really like glass.) I change Tabby's wigs a lot, Leo... never gets changed :( and I have a few wigs that I rotate for Toreth. Her main color is red, though.

    2. I don't at all. At least not yet. The only thing I've done so far is "upgrading" their eyes to ones I find more suitable for them. But once they've got their look, that's who they are.

There may come a time where I'd have one that does change a lot, but not right now.

    3. Only if I find something more suitable for the characters - ie., eyes that are a closer colour to my illustrations or higher quality, and the same thing for wigs - except in style and quality. Also, if I'm still figuring out the character, then this happens more frequently than if I've already "finished" the doll and established the character.

Otherwise, I tend to leave them alone.

    4. I don't have a doll yet either, but I imagine something like this for the future:

I'll probably find the right eye colour, and only change them if I get higher quality ones. I also agree with what others have said about colour contacts. I like to wear them occasionally, I don't see why my dolls shouldn't be allowed :)

Wigs I think I'd stick with the same colour, but maybe several different styles or textures.

    5. like every time i take them out of there bags, i always change wigs, eyes not so much..mostly because i hate trying to line them up, my dod is relatively easy but i find my DD to be really awkward with the bigger eyes

    6. Hm, I don't really change wigs much for my two boys. Every now and then I try, but then they don't look like themselves. One looks good in 3 different wigs, but I just keep him in his usual one for the most part.
I have cut two wigs so far to get them to look how I want. One, I colored a bit with markers to alter the color. I don't know if I would use hair gel or anything, though.

Strangely, I've been changing their eyes pretty often. At first, I thought, "weird, their expressions are wrong now," but now I like seeing the different expressions that come with different eyes.

    7. I have never kept the default eyes or wigs for a doll except for 1 - that being my Souldoll Paris. His eyes were perfect. ^_^

As for constantly changing eyes & wigs, I have some dolls that change eyes & wigs a lot. I have some that keep their eyes & change the wigs, and I have others that have their set eyes & wig (never change either). :)

    8. I 'upgrade' my dolls wigs when I find something that suits their character better, but I never really change their eyes once I get ones of the right colour for them. I think I'm too lazy to change the eyes too much, honestly!

    9. I change wigs on my off topic dolls quite often, but I tend to stick to the same color and just change styles. I'll be modifying a few of them so that I can change eyes, so the future answer to that part of the question is a yes too. :)

    10. I think this may relate to wether or not the doll is a character or not,for some doll owners.

My first doll is going to be someone who constantlly changes, she has a certain personality but doesn't want to be stagnant. (neither do I)
I think it'd be a waste to keep her one way if she is so easily customizeable, and all the diffrent things you can do make it too tempting to leave her one certain way.

In contrast if I made a doll who was supossed to be like a character in a story, i'd be reluctant to change much of anything as it would change the character. I'd feel the same about some of the LEs, too. Like the FL Chloe is too awesome the way she was, why change it?

So I guess it depends on how many dolls you have, if they are a speciffic character an if they were a special full set.

    11. Tsuki's eyes were rather disturbing when I first got her, so I definitely changed those out. As her character has changed and Hayden came along though, I've had to change her eyes out several times. She's really only had 2 wigs besides her default. The first one was only replaced because it wore out. I don't change them all the time though, just as necessity demands.

    12. The only time i've really changed the eyes from from the default (I bought both from JunkySpot, so already assembled) to the pupil-less red eyes because I think it looks fabulous. As for hair...I had a hard time finding a wig that fit, so I tend to stay to the same hair style. I am thinking about getting a new wig for my Genly though, because i'm starting to think he looks too severe with long white hair.

    13. Although my doll only sticks to two hair colors (for now) he has many wigs, and I change them frequently. His eyes, though, I have never changed. I did order him a second set, but they weren't the color they appeared to be on the website so he's not getting them!

    14. Dolllless right now, but when I get my dolls I will try out different eyes and wigs on them till I found the perfect combination. Then that's how they will look. But if doll a has black hair, she will have several black hair wigs belonging to her, since it is a hassle to style wigs so I'll just pretend.

    15. I only do it in the beginning where I'm trying to find the default colors and textures for them. Once I find them I don't change their wigs or eyes ever again, except for some photoshoots but their default wigs/eyes always come back at the end of the day.

    16. Do you change his/her wigs/eyes frequently or do you settle on one combination after you've found out about you're dolls personality?
Mostly the latter. It's not been the same with every doll, though. Mayou kept her eye and wig colour but I had to look hard for eyes to fit her and her hair is longer. Awa also kept his hair and eye colour. R.V. didn't keep hair or eye colour, but I haven't found her the right hair, yet. Yang kept his eyes (needs no wig), Angmata also doesn't need hair and didn't keep her eye colour. Uta kept both hair and eyes. Arem changed eye colour and changes her hair from red to black sometimes. ZhenMing changed eyes and the hair style. Hebera changed both eye and hair colour, as did Vinto.
Have you changed the look of you're doll and fell out of love with him/her?
No. But sometimes I came back to the doll and I didn't like her style anymore. But I changed that, so it's ok.
How many dolls do you own compared to the amount of wigs and eyes you have?
I think I own about six more pairs of eyes and about four more wigs than dolls.

    17. I have not changed my LE doll, only because I feel like I am losing the idea of the LE if I do. But all my other dolls I try to customize as much as possible to get it away from the default look. Actually my 2nd doll I bought without default clothes or a wig, so I had no option but to customize him. I later switched out his eyes as well, because I always portrayed him with green. My first doll I customized, but I bought a wig the same color as the default one just a different style, because I didn't like the idea of changing the color at first. It really depends on your attachment to the dolls current look and how you want to portray them.

    18. Yes, all the time! I'm always looking for the perfect look and I have yet to find it. With my first bjd, she kept her default wig and eyes for a long time because I wasn't really into the hobby yet. But since I've started customizing my dolls more, I've gone through acrylic eyes, glass eyes, pupiless eyes, long wigs, short wigs, straight wigs, faux fur, tibetan lambskin, curly wigs, blond, black, brown and even a teal and purple wig. I get the feeling I may have settled on looks for all three of my girls, now.

    19. I am currently pretty pleased with Fionn's eyes. But one eye's iris is pointing alittle in a different direction than the other. Since I am crosseyed myself, I guerss I do not mind, but maybe I will rearrange the eye some day.

    20. Depends on the doll. Most of them I change the eyes semi-often. Wigs I change for most too but certain dolls of mine I like in certain colors. It's part of the fun for me. But I totally understand some people find THE wig and THE eyes for their doll and that's the look that sticks! :)
