Do you change your doll's wigs and eyes?

Dec 10, 2005

    1. I've switched out eyes a few times to try to get the exact color for the "Theme" i want for my dolls. I almost never keep the factory eyes in them.

I don't have a lot of wigs, but I like to swap them around from time to time, just for grins.

    2. I don't intend to change my dolls wig, but if I do I'm keeping it the same color, just to make it seem he either grew his hair out or cut it. Eyes are something I'm more comfortable with changing, I can still stay in the color range with that too. I just don't like drastically changing their looks...

    3. My dolls have different colored "contacts". So if they have to change their eyes to do it, why should I not let them. As for wigs, once I find the right one that suits him, it stays. That and its hard to have a black wig with blind eyebrows. No styling though, just beanies for my boys heads. =P

    4. I only have 1 tiny and 2 SD's. I usually know how I want the doll to look, but my newest one, DS wheatskin Evan, was a impulse buy while trying to see about a Crobi Yeon-Ho. I got him a loooooong white wig like I wanted Yeon-Ho to have, and he looks pretty good in that so I might not change it out. Both the others (BBB Nissa Taruun and Crobi LJ) had a specific look that I was going for, so they're already set.

    5. My dolls usually have one "basic wig" and one set of "basic eyes": Those are the ones that suit them best and that they wear most of the time. I occasionally change the wig and/or eyes for a photoshoot, depending on the theme, but most of the time they remain the same.
I thought it would really change their character, but was quite surprised when I tried it for the first time: As long as the face-up remains the same, the overall doll pretty much remains the same as well. It's like they're actors, and when you put on different clothes, hair and eyes they are just playing a different role... But they're still the same actor.

I do, however, have one doll which has such a fixed personality that I could never change her wig or eyes. That's not just my personal opinion. It concerns my handmade girl: When I made her, I had an image of her in my mind with red hair, green eyes and freckles. And that is what she turned out like (be it more mature than I originally intended to).
Somehow, that caused that she is NOT CAPABLE of wearing any other wigs than red ones, or any other eyes than green ones with large pupils (with small pupils she looks like a maniac for some reason).
Well, technically, it could be done of course. Just take off this wig and put on another one. But it looks ridiculous. Not just to me, but to anyone I show her to. Even if they never have seen the doll before and don't know what she is supposed to look like! If I put in blue eyes, or make her wear a blonde wig, it just looks incredibely out of place.
Very strange... I'm not sure what exactly is causing it (Her cheeks? Her eye-shape? Her smile?). But I DO know I couldn't change her even if I wanted to. She has escaped from my jurisdiction, so to say.

    6. I change my dolls' wigs and eyes whenever I feel like it~ I enjoy the numerous options that I can create with different wigs and eyes. I don't like to stick with the same ones--although I change eyes less frequently than I change wigs because I am not confident in my ability to position eyes.

I have 3 dolls--2 SD-sized and 1 MSD. The SD-sized dolls don't have the same sized head, but they can generally share wigs. Between them I have about 7 wigs. The MSD has 5.

    7. I change my dolls eyes, and wigs all the time. I really like the idea of them with a different look from time to time. I also like to see what they look like with short, or long hair, cat eyes, or blue. That is why I love these doll so much. There is no end to how much you can change them.

    8. I personally don't change either.... My doll character is at a stand still. I use the default eyes she came with, which are very cute deep green eyes. Her hair is simply a light brown w/ platinum streaks that I got from monstro designs. I like her look with light hair, and am a little hessitant to change her wig. It was only meant to be a temporary wig, but now I can't find any that I really like. :)

Littlefees also seem, to have a hard time fitting into to certain wig brands.

    9. When I get my dolls I am going to keep one set of eyes in them. Probably going to end up changing their wig every now and then, just for a new fresh look.

    10. My dolls' characters have a basic hair & eye color so they have what I call their 'natural' look. The hair gets longer or shorter w/different styles depending on what's going on w/that character. They can wear contacts. All of them cosplay so whoosh new eyes/wigs (some will have 2 heads for makeup vs no makeup....)
I DO have lots & lots & lots of wigs, & many eyes as well :D What IS the fun here if everybody just always looks the same?

    11. i used to change them a lot, but not now when they settle on a character. they keep them on unless i temporarily dress them in something else like for the holidays. even my granddaughter likes to keep them in certain wigs "that doesn't look good... put Beryl's hair back on." TG she isn't as picky about their eyes yet.

    12. For me, it usually depends. More often than not though, I change eyes more so than wigs--though, there's been a few types where I have replaced wigs as well or even just wigs. I really don't like shock/pop value so I like colors that are warm or match well. (IE: I'm not big on dolls with pink hair and blue eyes--I'd prefer pink hair and red, purple, or brown eyes).

    13. I'm going to change her eyes but her wig probably won't change for a while

    14. i play around with wigs, but must admit when I foind an eye color I like, I tend t keep it...

    15. I tend to only switch out a doll's eyes and wig in the beginning of their life, as I am trying to find out who they are as a character and what looks best of them. Once I find out what works best for my dolls and their personalities, I stick to it. I think the only time I will switch out a wig or their eyes is if they absolutely need it (wig wears out, eyes yellow, etc.).

    16. My dolls haven't come with eyes or wigs, but I would almost certainly change them if they did. All my dolls have characters that exist outside them, and so unless the included eyes/wig just happened to fit perfectly, I'd need to change them so they matched my idea of my character.

I have bought eyes for my dolls with the intent of changing them later, though. I've bought a number of cheap acrylic eyes so my dolls can have eyes while I save up for more expensive silicone eyes. I don't think the change will effect their characters, because I intentionally bought cheap eyes in the correct colours (the only difference will be the better quality of the acrylics). I've never done this with wigs, though. I guess the price difference between 'good' wigs and 'meh' wigs isn't enough to justify buying placeholder wigs while I save up for the proper ones.

    17. I generally don't buy fullsets so all my dolls have wigs I purchased separately. In few occasions (namely two so far) they've kept the eyes they came with because it was the color I intended to get for them anyway.

There has been a single occasion where I bought a fullset -because- of the wig, and that was my Crobi T-line Wooyu. His fullset's wig was exactly what I wanted for his character and the company didn't sell the wig separately in the same color, so~ yes. xD

    18. My first doll was supposed to come with a wig but didn't so I bought her a couple of different styles and colours, my second has a lovely wig that came with her but it's in a plait so I bought her a hair down wig too. My girls have the same head size so they swap wigs sometimes as well. I haven't changed the default eyes yet but I will do at some point.

    19. I play around with wigs a lot but it depends on the doll, not so much eyes i have bought expensive eyes for a couple of my dolls but ended up putting the original ones back because they looked better and kept them that way.

    20. I changed my girl's eyes, and her wig is always changing! I can never decide if I want her to have neon orange, pink or ginger-colored hair!
