Do you collect stylized or realistic sculpts?

Dec 2, 2016

    1. I don't own a huge collection yet, but i don't have a general preference between stylized of realistic. However! I do gravitate towards sleepy and pouty looks, which more is found on stylized dolls, i suppose? =)

    2. I like variety, so I have all kinds of sculpts in my collection. I have more realistic sculpts, "dolly" sculpts, anime sculpts, and animal sculpts. In terms of their stories, they do not all interact with one another. That is in part due to the kind of sculpt they are, but also based on their story.

    3. I'm guessing my tastes would fall under the realistic category? I don't really go for the stylized look because it doesn't seem like something I could like for a really long time.

    4. I’ve bought a number of dolls almost all in different styles! I don’t mind the mixing since most of my dolls have totally self contained stories and identities if they have any at all. I like having a diverse collection and I’ve been excited to try out different types of dolls in the future. If I had describe where my tastes fall I’d say more stylized than realistic but I have exceptions. I’m not overly interested in extremes on either end of the spectrum.

Presently all my dolls are sitting on one shelf together and they’re all so adorable side by side! Even if their styles differ from doll to doll I think they make a cute lil doll family.

    5. I tend to go for stylized realism - to match the usual look of fantasy art or fashion sketches.

    6. I lean towards realistic. I'm often trying to match my dolls up with a real person for tangible reference so that tends to work best!

    7. I lean towards stylized fantasy such as centaurs, fairies and elves. Though I wouldn’t go so far as the more anime looking dolls, my dolls would definately look weird as humans with their larger than normal eyes. I love the look of realiistic dolls but I just haven’t wanted to keep one.

    8. Realistic for me, although I do have one slightly more stylized guy but he looks so serious he fits in fine with my others but looks like a younger sibling or something. I also have one guy who rides the line between realistic and stylized (because he's in grey resin) but his character is not human so he also fits with my others. Everyone else is more realistic though and I think it will stay that way

    9. Most of my characters are based in fantasy so a lot of my dolls are too, I'm more drawn to stylised sculpts in general too so that helps ;)

    10. Most bjds fall squarely into the "stylized" category to me, because most seem to have some form of exaggeration to their facial features. Usually oversized eyes, or really simplified noses or mouths. When exploring bjds for my first dolls, I gravitated towards companies and sculpts that were a little less stylized, and pretty much everything in my current collection is fairly realistic. Or at least, they are comparatively realistic.

Still, it's hard not to appreciate the artistry of less "realistic" dolls. My personal collection isn't the same scale, so I don't have any incentive to keep everything comparable by shape, style, or size. I would totally consider adding a heavily stylized doll in the future.

    11. I started with stylized, then went to realistic, and then swung back to stylized.

lol I guess I want a little of everything. Some characters are suited for a stylized look and some I want more realistic.

    12. Both?
I’m waiting on an Iplehouse JID Cordelia to arrive, and she’s very realistic. But I’m also tempted by Minifees with colorful hair and sparkly eyes. And I like the cat dolls.

    13. When I first got into the hobby, I was a mess. Now I prefer collecting stylized Minifees. Here's the thing, I'm really bothered by characters if they don't look like they're from the same universe, thus why I prefer Fairyland, them being more or less same-looking. I also feel that stylized characters are easier to connect with, and I prefer a fantasy story away from reality, where my dolls can be as colorful as they want to be!

    14. Personally I’m a fan of realism in sculpts, but I find myself able to appreciate any kind of doll. But for my own collection I prefer realism to surrealism.

    15. I prefer realistic, but not too close to realism. I don't mind too much if they're somewhat stylized. However, I don't like huge eyes or too much exaggeration. Like my IOS anarmonia isn't too realistic, but not too stylized either.

As for gender, I prefer males over females.

    16. I like both. I have anime, realistic, and anthros in my collection.

    17. I go more towards stylized sculpts. I always enjoy the big lips or eyes of a doll than if they're super realistic. There are some realistic looking dolls out there that kind of creep me out! It feels too real!

    18. Since my dolls are almost all Dream Valley or Doll Chateau bjds, they are all tends toward the unrealistic style :)
