1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you do anything special to prepare for a new doll's arrival?

Jan 20, 2011

    1. Not really. I try to have an appropriate wig and pair of eyes ready, but that doesn't always work out timing-wise - urethane eyes are often slower to arrive than dolls :sweat. I may or may not buy some clothes for them; these days I have enough around that usually I have something to at least keep them un-nekkid while I figure things out.

      No, most of my preparation is usually just some wall-climbing - I'm a very impatient person!

      I don't even tidy up first, other than the space where I'll do the box opening :sweat. During the box opening, if the doll is a fullset they will get dressed up in their default look and photographed. Then I'll switch them into whatever I have that suits them better, and hang out with them for a while :).

    2. When a doll arrives for me I like to have time to open them! This doesn't always work so well - my latest doll, Hope, arrived as I was stepping out the door to go to my Great Uncle and Great Aunt's wedding anniversary party! So she had to sit at home in her box and wait for me XD
      But generally when a new dolly arrives home I like to have all my dolls waiting with me. If I can, I also like to have Andi's cousin come visit with my friend, so that my friend and him can help welcome the new resin person home. If I can I like to have some clothes ready for the new arrival, but if I can't I make sure that I have some fabric and thread nearby to sew up a quick outfit!

    3. I clean my house and my "work area" (aka dining room table) lol. Make sure my camera is charged and make a box opening video! then ill start thinking about what character traits they will have. ;)

    4. When getting a new doll I make sure to clean my room the best I can, clean the doll closet and make them a space and get out my box opening Knife I have used for all 8 of my dolls! Onetime I had my KDF ani and DOC leya open my souldoll winys box :3

    5. I have already started my own ; u ;

      I make little things like bedding, pj's, clear a spot for him and his clothes, I make sure I have the character profile done before he get's here. I also tend to research a ton on him, watch a bajillion box openings. So far thats the only things I have.

    6. Also, to add to what I said already, in addition to finding room, I also start scouring YouTube for box-opening videos like crazy. Even as I'm saving for my BBB Apollo, I'm scouring YouTube. And it doesn't have to be featuring the doll I want (though that's a plus; however finding Dollmore and BBB Apollo openings seem really rare).

    7. Well, aside from box opening, I like to have something the doll can wear on arrival, just so no one has to sit around naked. And for Vince, I already had some miniature things on hand that were the right size range for him to interact with.

      Before my next dolls arrive, though, I'd like to have a space ready, where doll-sized furniture can go. I have a large, deep shelf with plenty of space for a couple MSDs and a tiny to hang, and before Vince has friends arrive, I want them to have their 'room' ready. (Vince will help me get furniture ready...)

      Aside from that, I don't think I have any particular strange/special rituals. Of course, for the standard box opening, I do have to wait until my family is assembled so they can share the excitement...

      =^__^=

    8. Nope, except for the change in my daily routine to include stalking my package about every hour on the USPS site. :lol:

    9. Besides having at least his/her basic stuff (Eyes, wig, underwear, clothes, shoes) already home or on the way, for instance, in the same package of the BJD that is arriving, I clean up all over the place, I try to figure out in which room I will open it (It usually depends on light) and how much time I will have if it is supposed to be a busy day. When the day is incoming I empty my camera of other photos and check out the battery, just in case. I try to have everything near, and even some of my other BJD to give the welcome, for the arrival date.

    10. The doll I'm waiting for--she's in New York!!:D--has a few sets of clothes & a couple of wigs to try when she gets here; I have to remember to bring them into work, where I'm having her delivered.

      She's a full set, but I am allergic to mohair, so she needs a non-mohair wig, and her outfit is awfully sexy for my work environment. Heck, so is she, but they will have to deal.

      Now, to see how long Customs delays her. taptaptaptap

    11. I have eyes and wigs ready because its hard to really enjoy the doll without at least those things. I also tend to get beds and bedding, stuffed animals, and some clothes ready but I may be kind of weird :)

    12. I usually take a spastic regular bag to the customs just in case I need to transport the doll in a more secure way , I also prepare with some time the payment of the custom fees, but I think we all do, once at home, since my house it's always a mess and I usually buy larger dolls, I clean up my dinning room to open the box with spotless precaution, but I guest that's quite regular...:sweat

    13. I don't do something special, but it's important that I have a new outfit and wig for the new doll. As soon as he/she arrives I have to open the box as quickly as possible, because I'm always so excited and so I could never take box opening pictures. I also want to be alone when I dress him/her up for the first time. I can't tell why this is important for me.

    14. Not really. I mean I set up a webcam to the faceupworkshop room for the arrival of my Glati, but before that I'd never done anything special. Usually box opening just happens on my couch with with doll's box in my lap.

      If I tried to do anything special my child would inevitably be into everything, so I just open the box up and go set my doll with the others.

    15. well when Emily was coming I made a bed for her (still working on blankets and such). I also made sure she had clothing, wig, and eyes. Now that Yoko is on her way I'm thinking about the same thing. I just got her an outfit, need to work on getting eyes and a wig. Also I'm wanting to make mini snacks for her.

    16. If you count sobbing to your mom about how it hasn't arrived yet special...then yes!

      hehe when Loki arrived I ran around screaming holding his box tight for a good five minutes...

    17. I have to get at least some clothes/eyes/wigs and I buy at least a chair so they can sit comfortably. Other than that if the house is a wreck I'll just open the box on the bed as odds are the bed won't be cluttered. XD

    18. Well......I make sure that I have at least one wig and a pair of eyes for them. becuase most of my dolls usually arrive with neither...

      and I make sure that I clean up my room very well. >>;;

      Also it's tradition that every new doll gets dressed up in a pretty white crocheted robe for the first photoshoot or arrival shoot.
