Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Me, definitely. xD If I like it on them, then that's what they wear. Kind of like real children, they wear what their mother buys because they can't buy themselves. Or go naked, but hopefully they choose the latter.

 

I dress my dolls for me. ^^;

(I'm too old to get away with wearing frilly dresses.) XD

 

Both! Even if they're styles that I wouldn't wear myself-- or even styles that I wouldn't wish on my enemies-- they have to be something that suits the doll so well that I still like to look at him. I like the "disconnect", the challenge, of dressing my doll in stuff that makes me splutter and laugh and go Holycrap, & still having him look Just Right! My Iplehouse Mars is the biggest mental roadblock for me, because he is one of the few who doesn't do punkwear or grungewear or fetishwear or gothwear... so I have to be caught shopping for Eurotrash. (There is a flyaway sheer leopard-print blouse on order.)

For the most part, though, I buy clothes that I would wear if I could fit a 60cm size... & the boys wear them for me. That is what they're here for, after all! I have a bit of a God-complex, so the characters (were they real) already would choose clothes that I'd like. ^^


And for the most part, the boys and I DO wear a lot of the same shoes. DollHeart's boot-design department totally has my number.

 

I think I tend to buy my dolls clothing that I would wear. Funky, hip clothing with cool fabrics...yes, I love my dolls' clothing too! Don't we all?

 

I think it'd be fine to get your doll one or two costumey pieces, surely they like dressing up as much as people do!

 

I suppose I also dress them for the character they are to be in a setting, but if the outfit does not look like them and go with their personality I change them or a wig to fit them. I always seem to like the end result.

 

Well, for the most part, I'd say I dress my dolls to fit their characters, but a lot of what Vince wears falls right in line with what I think looks cool.

The one exception is that I have a LTF on layaway. Way before I had planned on getting the doll, I'd bought a pair of tiny shoes because they had cat faces, and I collect anything with cats on them. His character is, well, male. And unlike most of my boys, not really into genderqueering his wardrobe. Buuut, since he's going to be the only member of my doll family who fits the shoes for a while, he's gonna get cross-dressed at least once in a while.

I definitely dress my dolls to their characters and not to my own desires. If I were to put pants on my poor Mina, she'd probably keep falling over all the time in rebellion.

 

I dress my dolls for their characters, but I designed the characters to fit an aesthetic that I liked...so while I wouldn't buy a frilly lolita dress for my 60cm girl because that's not her character, it's also not really my style so it sort of fits both ways.

 

Hm. I dress my dolls in a STYLE that fits their storyline, but... hm. Well, for example, I don't usually like frilly things (has to do with a traumatic tutu experience when I was young), but occasionally I'll think, "Oh that looks cute on that girl, but NEVER WILL I WEAR SOMETHING LIKE THAT." I find I want to dress Marianne (my Lucy) in frilly dresses. Not tutus, by any means, but just... in really pretty dresses. I don't at present really have any doll characters that I can say I look up to, exactly... they don't have one of the two personalities I've always looked up to: neither independent, strong-willed women; nor punky, "I'll-beat-you-up-first".

So... I guess... I dress to suit them? Though more out of a desire to stick with the story than because it's what the doll would necessarily want. Then again, I have fun with my dolls, and sometimes dress them in things that are REALLY NOT their style. xD

 

I think both for my dolls. I buy what I like but it also has to look right on them...and sometimes when I buy an outfit for one doll, another wears it because it looks better on that one.

 

Initially, I choose Kou-chan's clothing for my personal tastes, but it seems to really fit her XD I was lucky I think, I'd go insane if she didn't -fit- the style of clothing she has.

 

I also dress my doll the way I think looks best for his character, but it has a little mix in of what I think looks good as well. So I guess in a way both things.

 

I dress to suit the characters, but their styles of clothing have elements of stuff that I also like, so.... both? xD

 

I don't know if this would be considered "for myself" or what. I've created the character and so I've kind of already determined how they will dress. I've already created the character from what I love, and so I would say that I'm dressing them for me. *shrugs* I dunno. It's kinda hard to sort out, but whatever.

 

Clothes tell you so much about the person, who is wearing them, so of course I buy clothes which fit the personality of my doll, but at the same time they also have to fit my taste in fashion. For example, I don't like certain colors and I would not buy an outfit in a color I don't like even if it would fit the character of my doll.

 

Well, sometimes I buy to fit character, but most of the time, I make sure it'll fit Him. Its not just my style, if he looks good in it, he looks good in it, and that's what I'll buy ^^ Its that simple at times, but also difficult at other times ( I dont really like pink, but there was a shirt that he looked so good in a bought it). But I dont really mind any kind of fashion~

 

I want my dolls to just be like basic people but in clothes I'd never wear myself because either I wouldn't suit them or because of the things people would say.
That includes posh dresses like lolita though because I love that style & would wear it myself if I ever had the opportunity, but I don't.

 

I would only buy stuff if I like it and if it would fit their style. My doll is Sweet Lolita style, which means I better don't buy Cyber Gothic clothes.
I like both, but it won't fit her.

 

When and if i can my lil dream come ture, I would dress her in her defult clothing and then if i think that i might want to make some clothing for her then a pretty pricess she goes *^_^*
