Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. Both. Tanya prefers not to wear dresses but I still make her wear them when I feel like it. On other days, she'll wear her ordinary sweater and jeans which actually better suit her character.

    2. I think that as you try different clothes on a doll, it's own style will eventually appear by itself. Sometimes I make clothes for the boys and it just doesn't look right on them. Other times, I just have to see a piece of fabric and I tell myself : "That is so him !".

    3. I buy what my doll would like... if I like it too i__i

      fair enought XPPP

    4. I just usually buy and look at stuff that I like~ I guess I try to make it suit Takeru and my tastes too +o+ I haven't got much clothes for him yet so Im not sure if he has just one style he looks best in.

    5. I dress Amelia both for her tastes (as I imagine them) and for mine. To be honest, though, she has a rather limited wardrobe at the moment, so so her "style" is rather casual. I've never imagined her as being the type to wear flowing gowns or elaborate outfits, though. I suppose, then, that I'm dressing her to my own tastes because how I imagine her is part of her character.

    6. Technically I dress them for my tastes because I'm the one that came up with there characters but at the same time, I dress them how there character would like to be dressed. :3nodding:

    7. A bit of both, it depends on the doll. Although it's all abstract at the moment, certain of my character dolls wear clothes that I love, others wouldn't be caught dead in the stuff I would dress them in. Tohru, for instance, wears the kind of clothes I would kill to be able to wear, black leather and sexy slinky skirts and camisoles and corsets and all like that. X3 Shuichi, on the other hand, is perfectly comfortable in a worn out t shirt and jeans, thank you, and not much call for anything else unless he has to (well, when he's on stage he has to look more like a rocker, but otherwise not). O-Kishi wouldn't be caught dead in anything that wasn't a kimono or a business suit (depending on if he's a youkai or a human at the time), and Charl wouldn't be caught dead in anything that was a kimono or business suit (unless the kimono was cut to leave nothing to the imagination). I like all those clothes, though, so they suit me too. X3 One could argue that our dolls are an extension of our own subconscious, so it's really us the whole time. That depends on your personal opinion, though.

    8. I dress my girl in styles I like. She's a doll so she doesn't decide what she likes or dislikes. I make that decision for her. Hah. :)

    9. i (am going to) do a little of both

the clothes i have picked out for my girl so far have been mostly ones i like that show off my style and personality (like jack skellington clothes as im a huge tim burton fan) as well but there have been a few outfits i'd never wear that i think would look great on her.

and the clothes/style i have picked out for my future boy are basically the same

    10. I dress my dolls the clothes that will fit their character.
So for example I can never get any of my girls into frilly dresses, no matter how much I'd love to make/buy one!

    11. Ha, ha, ha! I've tried, o yes, I have tried to put my resin children in things I found pretty and they doesn't. It has not turn out well; they simply refuses to wear anything that doesn't suits their taste so I better let them chose for themselves. XD

    12. Hm good question. :] I think it's a mix of both - what I like to see them dressed in is usually what suits their looks/personality. So I like/am attracted to particular clothing because it suits their personality. xD

    13. A bit of both in my case. They dress to suit their character, but then, I'm the one who gave (most of them >.<) their personalities, so I guess you could say they dress to suit my odd sense of taste as well lol

    14. My kids clothes are definately character led, so I agree with some of the other comments here - it's a little of both, as I have chosen the character for them.

    15. I dress them as it suits their character and personallity, even if I am not fond of some of the styles IRL but as it fits their person, it looks fine again. ^^
Though I'd never create a character in a style I really hate. xD

    16. My dolls are very, very vocal about what they wear =.= It's amazing how displeased they can look when I make them wear something they don't want to >> For instance, I bought a load of girls F2BM clothes and tried them on my boy, Fia, because all my other dolls had been taken apart for restringing. He looked completely miserable in every single outfit. This isn't unusual because his sculpt is very pouty looking anyway, but I swear when I put boy clothes back on him he actually looked like he was smiling, which he never does. I also have a -gorgeous- Unoa-sized lolita gothic dress that only fits Fia, but he flat out refuses to wear it. Blue would wear it, but it won't zip up on him T_T So I may end up selling it and buying another in mini size >>;

But really, I think it's a bit of both, because although all my boys have different clothing styles, I like all of them ^^ Like other people have said, I wouldn't have those characters if they didn't appeal to me. But I definitely can't influence them to wear things I like if they don't like them too.

    17. Well, they all seem to have their own distinct tastes, which they are not at all shy about expressing when they see something they want.

Also they definitely dress to suit themselves, and not me.

For example, I don't care much for most camo, I dislike "army green" and I'm not that fond of khaki...but other than his dress uniform, that is pretty much all Freyr will wear! That includes his socks and his underwear! :P Lol!

Then there's Wraith, who loves all colors, he will happily wear anything, in any color, or combination of colors, including bright yellow and orange! >_<
However, all his clothing must have at least one bug on it somewhere, or he won't wear it.
It can be a fabric print full of bugs, have a bug picture or patch, an embroidered bug, or even bug buttons.
      Wraith just really loves bugs.
      Me, I hate them! >_<

The only influence I've ever had on Wraith's style was that I made the mistake of giving him a pair of pink saddle shoes to wear when he first arrived.
They were only supposed to be temporary, until I had a chance to order him some more suitable shoes...
But he was so taken with them that now he will not wear any other shoes! 0_o

The only one who dresses to please me is Lue. ^_^
Lue basically likes to wear anything he thinks he looks good and/or sexy in, or better yet, anything that I think he looks good and/or sexy in! ;)

    18. At first, I thought I'd dress Rosamund anyway I wanted. But when she arrived, she looked so darn good in red, it pretty much became her color. My favorite color is blue, but I don't think it would look good on her at all.
But her only wearing dresses is my personal taste. I love dresses ^_^

    19. to suit their characters

    20. it's a bit of both. most of my dolls are based on pre-existing characters, so i don't feel weird saying 'oh, no way would they wear THAT, they'd kill me!' and i've had occasions where i've put one of my dolls in something and they've given me an impression of displeasure.

but when it comes right down to it, it's pretty much always to my tastes, since the impressions really come from me and not from them.

except when Sehti spits his belly joint at me and then bites my fingers with it. that's definitely him. (and me picking him up improperly ^_~)

so i guess my vote is it's about 50/50?
