Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. i dress them to suit myself.
though if i put them in an outfit that just really doesn't seem to fit them, i will change them into something else. that i like ofc.

    2. Them.

I see SO MANY great outfits that I desperately want for my dolls, but I won't get an outfit for a doll if it doesn't suit them. I actually have a Pinterest board dedicated to all the clothes and accessories I want to buy, but have no doll that fits them or their style.

    3. I do both It just depends on the character/doll I'm dressing.

    4. I dress mine to suit their characters. Sometimes it can take a few tries to get the look just right and the character might change a bit, but in the end its to fit the character look in my mind.

    5. I dress them to suit their individual style, and character.

    6. I dressed my first doll to suit my own taste because she was a total blank slate as in she had no character, for her I thought it would be fun to design her solely on my whim and create a character after seeing her all put together.

As for my incoming doll and the dolls in my wish list, they are all going to be representations of a few of my characters and so all have pre set styles of dressing.

    7. Them. I don't have a set style, so I let them pick out what they want me to make next. I'll start sketching ideas and then the final is up to them.

    8. I don't really have a character for my doll yet, so when I do have the chance to buy her clothes, her wardrobe would probably consist of what I'd like her to wear, and maybe from that, she'll find her own style or something. But, I think that once I've settled what her personality is and how she's like, I'll probably buy her stuff that would suit her character instead of just buying whatever I think would look good on her.

    9. When I see a piece of clothing that I like and think that one of my dolls would look good in it, I try to imagine them wearing it in my head. If it doesn't suit their character, or if I feel like they would kill me if I made them wear it, I just move on. So literally, I dress them in what they should be wearing. If that makes sense >.<

    10. I commented on this thread several years ago, but I'm commenting again because my tastes have changed. When I started putting a wardrobe together for Johnny my intentions were buy what suited him. However, when I stepped back to look at what I'd gathered, I saw that I was dressing Johnny to suit my own tastes. I'd purchased a lot of things that incorporated green (my favorite color) and a lot of things had skulls on them (I love skulls). Johnny will be a well-dressed poppet, no doubt about that. But based on my choice of purchases for him it would be safe to say that I dress him to suit myself.

    11. I dress my dolls to fit their character mostly, though I did buy my Minifees just to get them cute clothes. :)

    12. I have only ever dressed them in outfits that suit their character. I have seen people with collections of dolls that all wear pretty much the same thing (not that it's a bad thing) but it would drive me nuts to own dolls that don't each have a unique style. If they all dress the same way, what does it say about them? To me it means that they don't really have a unique personality, or if they do, it doesn't show. How we dress reflects our character, and the same goes for dolls. #DollLivesMatter

    13. I definitely dress my dolls to suit their individual characters rather than my own taste. My DollZone Qianxun, for example, I had so much nice clothing I wanted to buy for her, but she blatantly refused almost all of it. It can be a little tricky finding clothes that fit every doll, especially since I'm terrible at sewing, but I think it's worth it. It makes the dolls more personal and interesting.
I will say though, that some of my dolls do wear clothes similar to my own style, but that's probably because I project a lot of myself onto my dolls, do they remind me of myself in terms of personality as well.

    14. Mainly to suit them and their characters. Everyone sort of settled into having one main outfit (though my Dollmore Lisa Rubik has twice as many clothes as anyone else). I also found that the girls wound up each having their own colour. It wasn't something I planned originally, they were just clothing colours that seemed to suit their characters and appearances. Yet now, I have strong associations between each doll and their respective colours.

    15. I definitely try to dress them in what I think they would have picked out themselves. I do however usually make my characters style a reflection of my Personal style and interests.

    16. I always dress them as their characters would dress. I have bought some nice things that wasn't the style of the character and they turned out weird when the doll was wearing them...

    17. I definitly dress them according to their characters. More than once I had a style in mind for a doll and had to change it after she arrived, because it didn't fit her personality. The only exception is my Minifee, Elisa, because the character really don't have a defined style, so she will wear anything I think will look pretty, from hipster, to mori, to sexy.

    18. To suit me, of course. They are dolls and have nothing to say about it.

    19. I dress them according to their personalities too. :) I remember I got around to adding a female doll to my resin family just so I can dress her up in pretty and frilly dresses. Turns out her personality is more suited to simple dresses... orz

I guess this is why my crew keeps expanding! :sweat

    20. I had a character in mind for my dolls before they came and even made clothes for them to fit that idea and then they fot here and for one they just didn't "feel" right and it turned out she was more into casual than what I'd made.
