Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. Trinity is a toddler, but I don't really feel comfortable dressing her in little frilly kid clothing. I'm really stuck on what she should be wearing. I really need to sit down and figure out who she is. I mean, I know who she is but her tastes are not... clear yet?

    2. I'd like it if any of my big girls would wear sailor suits, like some school uniforms. Not going to happen.

But the mob around 30cm high will wear them happily, so all of the big dolls, the little dolls, and me are happy. :D

    3. Usually I try to get things for them that I think they would wear and that I would like them to wear... but usually if I get something for them that doesn't suit them but I like it I don't end up ever using it >_< Haha.

    4. I'd like to think that what I'd like her to wear is what she'd like to wear... Of course I try to sew her stuff that suits her, but since I'm sewing, I get the veto, meaning it'll be 18th C ;)

    5. My girls dress themselves. I have no say in what they wear. :)

    6. I wish Jake would be kind of punky. I could get him big black boots and chains, but his character just doesn't suit such things. I go by their characters, buying things I think they'll 'like'. :sweat

    7. My dolls have characters, so their clothing compliments that. Expressing it as well.

      example:
My three girls all would wear corsets, be it in different style's and fabric. One simple, other decorated and one in leather or PVC.

All my dolls wear something I would wear or would like to wear, but suited to their personality.

    8. I have specific styles I like to put my dolls in, but sometimes it just doesn't look right. So in the end I just end up putting my dolls in any clothing that suits them well. I guess they are like people in the sense that not everything you put them in will look good.

    9. Well, I hated it when my mom would stick me in clothes I hated, so I dress my doll to suit him. Actually I'm selling some clothes that don't suit him because they're not his 'style' and I had bought them before he arrived. His style is actually evolving to a version similar to mine...which is awesome since I can buy things I like for him to wear lol *huggles him*

When dolls I have characters planned for do eventually wind up at my house, I will dress them to suit they're character, whether I personally like it or not...

    10. It's definitely their style, not mine. Each of my dolls is his own character, with his own distinct style, and they all have very strong opinions on clothes. Most of my dolls dress boyish, as I do myself, but a couple of them wear things I wouldn't be caught dead in (like skintight leather pants and bellyshirts, lol!).

    11. I think when I get my doll.. I'll dress her to suit me and her.. Lol.
I don't want to put her in something I don't like.. Or I'm gonna want to change her clothes ALL the time.. But I think I would also have to dress her in something that actually looks good on her too. 'Cause I don't want to dress her in something that her looks so out of place in.. And doesn't fit completely right with her looks. So, it'll probably be both ways when it comes to me~

    12. My msd is dressed according to her character almost always.

However, my tiny is the doll I use to dress to my whims. :3 She doesn't really have a character yet herself.

    13. I definitely dress my dolls for their character. I have seen lovely dresses and fun outfits I'd love to put on a tall girl, for example, but they do not suit the character of any of my girls.

The boys in the house are quite varied. I haven't really run into the same situation with them. Usually, if I see a male outfit I like, it seems to be perfect for at least one boy in the house.

    14. defiantly to their character. i can put something on them and it wont look good to me if it's not their character.

    15. I dress them to suit their character, but I definitely wouldn't buy an outfit if I didn't like it, even if it would fit their character.

    16. I created a very versatile character for Alara (she's an actress, amoungst other things) so she wears whatever I want her to wear.
I have been far too busy to sew, however, so it's a bit of a moot point, she hangs around in the button down shirt and jeans I bought with her right now. Still, it works as her casual clothing.

    17. Some things scream at me to buy them so I do and if my doll doesnt wish to wear them then they dont I just save it for a doll that does. That way I dont have to worry about it getting sold out.

    18. I dress my boys according to their characters.

    19. My dolls are based on characters, so they wear what would be in the character to wear - and I always keep this in mind when shopping.

Russel tends to go for things that are prone to get people's attention, whereas Michael is extremely fashion-conscious and will only wear flattering things.

... Which suits me just fine, so I guess the answer is "both".

    20. A bit of both. Since I made up their characters, it's all more or less what I want them to wear anyway.
