Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. them mostley some times me.

    2. I dress them to suit their characters. I hav e one doll who does not like a lot of what he wears, but that is a part of his character, he is 7 and his mother dresses him, he disagress about style with her. He does not like argyle sweaters

    3. I dress them to suit their characters...they start giving me these 'looks' if I don't. >.> Roleplaying characters are weird that way...

    4. In my case each doll represents a character from one of my short stories. So when it comes to clothes, these are bought in accordance to the character description. Still, if I for some reason find that my oh-so-conservative character looks good in skinny jeans and a torn T-shirt, I'll dress them up like that. Because at that particular moment it would be pleasing to the eye ))

    5. my dolls are character dolls made to look like characters from my stories or comics, so i'd simply refuse to see them wearing something that doesn't fits their style.
If i have a strong, "manly" girl, i couldn't bear seeing her with a frilly lolita style. (Not to mention that all of my female characters are "manly")

    6. i dress my doll to suit me.....

    7. them, but sometimes i make them cosplay for me XD

    8. Do you dress your dolls to suit you, or them?

      Yes.

I try a little of both. But I have one who does NOT like western clothes and is not happy in them (as evidenced by how often he chucks his wig on those days). But I'm just a pleased to leave him in Chinese robes anyway. Some things also just don't look right on a particular doll, it could be their coloring, personality, etc; just like stuff doesn't look right on certain people. I try to find a happy balance between what I want to make for them and what THEY would rather wear. ^_~

    9. I think this is actually the same thing.

See, I dress my dolls to suit characters that I have created and enjoy, so by dressing them in a way that suits the character, I am really indulging my own enjoyment of the character, meaning that both- dressing the doll for the doll and dressing the doll for me- is happening at once.

I do sometimes see lovely clothing that I would like to put on my dolls, and I occasionally buy them and put them on my gang. And then I usually sell them, becuase they look like fancy dress outfits on the characters and it's more of a novelty than a 'real' outfit for them. Needless to say, I have learned to behave and just buy them clothing that suits them- if only for the sake of my wallet! ;)

    10. to suit them, mostly.. once my dolls swapped clothes and that was hilarious (for a short while).. cause none of them has the same style..
but no, my guys wouldn't be amused if I dressed them in a way that didn't suit them. and i wouldn't be either 'cause then it wouldn't really be them.. sort of..

    11. I wouldn't like to have my gang not look like themselves I guess, but I'm the all mighty creator of their universe, and the boss (as I'm actually alive.) so whatever I like goes on their shiny little butts-- no arguments. That said, I usually pick clothes that fits the character. Peitan for example, is just not a jeans girl. It's an odd combination of "I can't sew for her fat legs" and I decided that her character just wouldn't like them... XD (she's gonna hit me for that...)

    12. For now, since I only have the one doll, I'm dressing her in whatever suits me (she's currently in a Volks SD17 kimono). When I finally get the time to make the costume(s) she's supposed to wear for her character, then she'll be in character (hopefully).

    13. Both ^-^ Both of my boys represent two of my OCs that dress in a style that I like in general, so it's really easy to find stuff for them.

    14. Definitely for my doll's character. Normal style clothers doesn't suit him anyway. :)

    15. To be truly honest, probably to suit me.
Although I do kind of 'sense' that certain types of clothes would suit them better. I don't think I'd ever dress them in everyday 'modern' attire. Not if I can help it.
The only things that might come close would be sexy evening gowns for Claudia simply because she has the personality and body to carry it off.
But my preference would be to dress them in aristocratic attire, or at least victorian-like clothes, and failing that, loli dresses -- but probably only on Loren, who has a younger sort of body, so she would look okay in loli dresses. In fact, I should dress her younger than I dress Claudia. I can't help thinking Claudia would look odd in frilly loli dresses.

    16. Their tastes are an offspring of my own- so a mix i guess!

    17. Both!

But mostly to suit me. :XD: Sometimes I keep them in some really humiliating getups just because I think they're foxy. I swear some dolls seem to invite it (usually the musclemen!). But some dolls have that "don't you dare" vibe that makes me dress them in more in-character clothes all the time.

    18. This! Exactly!

    19. Part of the reason I wanted my doll in the first place was so she could wear cute things. If her personality differed from that, I'd be on the lookout for a new doll that could have a personality suited to wearing cute, childish clothing. I want the outfits to suit my tastes, which have thus created my doll's tastes.

    20. Oh it's all them. Personally I think my character Lottie dresses like a frump but thats so in character for her that of course the doll would match. She wouldn't be the same in cute clothes. Haha. =]
