Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. i dress them to suit their characters. but...i created their characters, so really i dress them to suit me >:3

    2. A bit of both probably. All my dolls' personalities reflect aspects of myself and their clothing fits their personalities. And since I'm the one buying the clothes, I'm definitely not going to buy something I don't personally like.

    3. when i first got my doll I made her simple clothes so she had SOMETHING to wear. Id feel to bad having her sit around naked. :(
Now that i have more time I am making clothes for her that fit her "personality"

    4. I dress them according to the characters they portray, so it varies, but I definitely would never buy any clothes for them that I didn't like as well.

    5. I'd like to dress my boy to suit himself but I don't have many clothes that do so I dress him in what I have. But when he does have clothes that suit his tastes I still see me dressing him in what I want sometimes.

    6. I dress them to suit their characters.

But I do try and make sure that we don't clash with each other color wise. XD

    7. Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

A bit of both, I think!....;)....I dress them to suit the characters they have become...mostly from the past....I love antiqiues and anything from the 1800's....I also love shabby/grungy/prim looks for my dollies........ I have tried "modern" styles for them but I'm never happy with that look for long!......I like the 20's(Flapper) and I have a gal from the 60's(Mod) ......so it's a bit of a mixed bag at my place....lol.... And now that Christmas is here I'll probably dress a few dollies up in Christmas attire.....:hollyberry

      xen :)

    8. I dress mine to suit the character usually.. unless they're new and don't have clothes yet, in which case they often get to wear spare clothes I got free when I ordered things or that sellers here in the marketplace sent along with dolls.

Sometimes it is fun to get clothes that don't suit the character though or that are more casual than what they would normally wear. I'm particularly fond of layered winter wear. I think it's cute on just about anyone. XD

    9. For me, it's a combination of both.
Sometimes I'll see something and think "that would suit ____ so well!"and get it
      Or
Other times, it's more of an "omg awesome shirt/hat/etc I waaaaant it!"Then end up getting it.

    10. He is dressed to my wants. I love punk, victorian, steampunk, good old fashion gothic. It just depends on how I feel for the day.
      Hachimach-love the placebo avatar!

    11. I think I dress them the way it suits their characters, but their characters can change, just like people can change.......

    12. I agree technically. But once I've decided on their character it really doesn't matter what I'd like to see them in. lol! Like I'd never put Ana-adelle (my scenester/goth-punk) in a pink frilly dress, EVER! I once put her in a bright blue coat, striped shirt and black pants(it looked very cliche french)....and had to apologize to her for the bad choice of outfit! (She looked pissed and insulted.) unfortunately for her she stayed in it for quite some time before I changed it. >.<*
That's why you make sure to have a doll who fits what you like to wear (it's really fun dressing them!)
But some of my dolls don't have a choice, really, because of limited clothing options.
Especially my boys. It's very hard for me to find clothes to fit their personalities, so they end up with really strange off beat clothing.
lol. Poor boys! All the girls lookin' fine while your looking wack!
      I'll remedy this one day.....

    13. Actually, I've prepared some styles for my dolls...it's like when we design fashion, we make a collection. I did that...but somehow...I haven't made one until now...I keep dressing her up like my own preference outfit...(^o^)'''''...

I plan to realize one design of the collection today...but I don't know...

    14. Hee hee.

Well, this is kind of an interesting question.

As with artists and writers' characters, there is always a little bit of the creator in the creations.

I think it's the same with dolls.

Dolls meet their owners standards, no one else. I modeled, created my doll after 19th century France. It fits her personality, views, and it fits my current obsessions, and what visually appeals to me (rather, what always has, since I was little!)

So...the answer is both. She is dressed to me, and to herself. We are different personalities, though very close. We like the same things, yadda yadda...but I think everybody does that with their dolls.

    15. Dress to fit their character. I find that cute lolita does not go with my rather curvy glamour puss AOD. She goes for sexy stuff :P My DD is more suave and does not suit too much strong leather or bondage so to speak, so he spends his days with vests, a leather jacket and soft black trousers ^^

    16. Surely basing on their characters. And sometimes you can't find out whats suits them the best from the first glance. So you have to try different styles and clothes. Sometimes everything is obvious. For example, I had to dress my new guy Unidol Rio into ballet tights ans woolsweater, which belonged to our Soom Lazule (had no other options, because purchased Rio only with his boxing outfit). Understood that he will never wear anything relating to ballet uniform. Felt pity and had to make him jeans and a shirt in next two hours (deep in the night).

    17. I dress them in clothes that suits their character of course, usually this involves trying out different combo of clothes just so you can get that perfect outfit that reflects their personality.

But I admit I do dress my dolls in outfits that is out of their character, just so to satisfy my curiosity on how they'll look ^^ I just love experimenting clothes on them , you'll be surprise on how different they look on this outfit and that!

    18. This is an interesting question. Well, since my dolls reflect my tastes, I'd say I dress them to suit me and what I like. And as others have mentioned in the thread, even if I dress them to suit them, I've been the one who decided their characters, so technically they suit me any way or the another. But even so, there are some times I see an outfit that would fit his character but that I feel it won't go with my doll at all, and I guess this what I'd call a doll choosing what suits him.

    19. I agree that since the dolls reflect their owner's interests and style, then technically the dolls are all dressed for the owner, but I've found that over time specific styles suit specific dolls and if I dress my dolls differently it doesn't suit them as well!

    20. I buy clothes *I* think they'd like, but more often than not, my brood decides they prefer other clothes. I have so many unused pieces of clothing because one of them has refused to wear it. :(

Amazing how demanding our little resin critters are. Heheh.
