Do You Dress Your Dolls to Suit You, Or Them?

Nov 20, 2008

    1. Well, I would only make characters that like clothes that I like in some way. XD It would be so boring to have a doll that I wouldn't think looked good. =) But then I wouldn't put a doll in clothes it didn't like even if I liked them. =)

    2. I only have the one BJD but like both the Goth look and the innocent look so poor Karly gets to wear what I like..... I do however try to do a complete change so she doesn't really even look like the same doll. Different Eyes/Wigs/Clothes.

    3. Wow Colleen, you are right. What a difference different styles can look on the same doll. And she does look comfortable in both styles.

    4. Both! When looking at clothes, I try and make sure they suit her style, but I only pick the ones that I really love. But, I have fitted Dawn's character to be most convenient to me! She's a spiritual reincarnation, so I can 'make up' as many past lives as I want while still making her essentially the same character. Makes for good opportunities for a lot of period costumes and different styles! So, I made her 'style preference' veery general. More like she's just color-themed, with a bit of a girly exotic flare to suit her personality! Her dominant colors are white, red, orange, yellow, a pastel and warm colors in general. Also light brown.

Though then again, I'm not terribly picky when it comes to dressing her either. I got a DollHeart Fukubukuro Bag, and while some of it doesn't really suit her, I don't mind and dress her up in it anyway. Might just be the novelty of a brand new doll though =P . Any new clothes to try on is GOOD CLOTHES! HAR HAR HAR.

    5. Both!
I dress her to her mood mostly!
But I also aske her to where a dress to a wedding or something if I need her to shes not usually to stuborn XD

    6. I have tried to force styles on my dolls in the past. It was failed rather dramatically.

So now I'm going for a more collective approach. I dress the whole collection as neatly and casually as I can. My new goal is for everyone to have a high quality pair of jeans with all of the trimmings, proper realistic looking boots and a fall/winter jacket. Jackets are the hardest so far. Warm but not bulky is tricky, especially for tinies!

But no matter how nicely I have tried in the past to 'glam up' my dolls with fancy dollheart outfits, it has failed. So casual is the way to go for me now. So yes, my dolls really do decide their own styles (and wig and eye colours, they're a picky bunch!).

    7. Them :sweat
There are some styles I'd like to own more of, or that are easy to come by (like goth/punk/lolita), but I have no one at home who wears that stuff. I don't know why I create so many characters who are casual dressers at heart . . .

For example, there have been some super-cute SD10 boy outfits from Volks lately - shorts with garters, that kind of thing - and as much as I loved them, I knew my SD10 boy would murder me in my sleep if I made him dress like that!

    8. Hm, I dress according to what I imagen my doll would be. I mean my doll is created through my own imagination of him. I wouldn't get him what I wouldn't personally buy myself. I mean it's like buying a gift for a friend. You wouldn't buy a friend something you wouldn't like right?

    9. there's no plan . when find one have a good deal on sale etc and the dress is the right size for one of my doll. plus it's beautiful. then i will go for it if i have money = =

    10. I tend to dress my dolls in ways that will suit there characters. The outfits I chose for them are my personal preference, but the clothing styles they wear is based on what they like and look good in.

    11. They dress in what I think would suit them. Unfortunately there's not much that does ha ha. My girl has a pretty mature body so all of the cute clothing I want for her would look kind of odd because the cute stuff is made for flat chested dolls. OTL And my boy just dresses like a normal guy so I've not put much thought into his style.

    12. That is hard.
For me finding a balance can be very hard. It hard not to put your self into your dolls.

    13. My dolls and I all have similar tastes so I suppose I dress them to suit us all. Convenient for me, I guess ^_~*

    14. to suit my dreams ,maybe.

I'm crazy about ancient things, but i cannot go back to ancient times. Thus i dress them up in those style.

    15. Both, and they're related. If I don't like something, I will change it even if it suits the doll. Or grow to like it. ("Acquired taste".)

And if something doesn't suit the doll anyway, I don't think I'd like it either.

    16. It's a combination. They will wear what is their style, and that might not always be something I would wear. Still, I have to like it, but I think that is kind of logical, you would not clothe your doll in something you loathe so easily.

    17. a little bit of both but more for them than me. they wouldn't wear clothing i didn't like but they also wont wear a lot of clothes i do like because i develop characters for each of my dolls and if the personality doesn't match the clothing style i wont put them in it.

for example my next doll zoey should have a wide variety of the kinds of clothes she wears. she will probably have bits and pieces of clothing and jewelry for styles like punk, goth, cyber goth, steam punk, and scene with just a touch of tomboy. and i love doll-heart fers and the little lolita gowns that are everywhere but i would never buy one and just throw it on zoey because its not her style. i would have to mess with it and add stuff to make it her style. and even then im not sure it would be for zoey

    18. I buy a doll with its future clothes in mind, so I only buy dolls that would suit the types of clothes I like. I guess that makes it both, cause I'm sure that they like the same clothes ^^". Mostly I dress my dolls in clothes that I like but would be totally out of context if I wore them myself.

    19. I dress them to suit my tastes because I'm the one who molds them. ^^

    20. i dress my dolls to suit me since im a guy who cant dress in drag i make my boys do it for me..... hahahah

but i think it suits them too i might have missed the point
