Do you ever NOT want to paint a doll?

Sep 5, 2014

    1. I normally would not like for my own dolls not to have a face up. However, I just got a DZ MuMu in white. He has such a evilish/smart a** look, I kind of want to leave him alone. I'm afraid I'd lose that.

    2. So far all my dolls happen to have faceups BUT I can totally see wanting to leave a doll blank. They are so gorgeous in just pure resin.

    3. I like all my dolls to have face-ups done as soon as possible, however my Soom Teenie Gem Necy is yet to have her fox paws/hands & feet painted and for some strange reason I like it that way and don't have any real desire at the moment to send her "parts" off to be painted lol.

    4. Oddly enough I actually love bare dolls. But I know it is nearly impossible to write my character story when she is blank haha

    5. Some dolls look really intriguing without a face- up, some work with very minimal color added, and some look incomplete. For my taste, I often find the more uniquely sculpted they are, the more I like to see them blank. Ones that are more exaggerated in proportion or have a lot of extra sculpted details sometimes look great simply with the way light works with their shapes. So, I think there could be dolls I kept blank if I had them. :)

    6. I felt this way once, with an OT doll--27cm Obitsu. I felt like I didn't have the skills to make him look good, and he would be better off blank. But the lack of details bothered me so I did eventually do it. I haven't felt that way about resin, but that's probably because I have all human characters who would look really unfinished blank. If I were into the statue/mannequin thing, I might feel different.

    7. No, I have no talent what so ever. I'll leave that to the true artist and be more than willing to pay for it.

    8. Although I like looking at the sculpted details alone, I always need a faceup! However, I kind of like how my doll looks like without his wig lol.

    9. I think it depends on the sculpt and how good ones photography is! I find that I prefer faceups in pictures if it's an average skilled hobbiest taking them but I have seen some lovely blanks. For just looking at them myself I don't mind keeping them around blank at all. Makes you appreciate their features more!

    10. Personally, I paint and draw but doing it on a resin head is a nightmare for me. Due to the unavailability of MSC and other face up materials here on my city, I tend to send them to my trusted and favorite face up artist. But I do want to try it someday though but for now, sending my doll head to professionals is the right thing to do <3 :D:lol::whee:

    11. I don't really like them when they're not painted. Even for my favourite dolls with the most amazing blank sculpt... They just feel empty without make-up. It's a good thing I know how to do my own face-ups (and anyway I like doing it so much I just start to do it as soon as I can !)

    12. In my opinion, I would be completely happy with leaving a lot of the Doll Chateau sculpts blank. They are so beautiful like that. But I really only feel that way with Doll Chateau with their milky, bone white resin.

    13. I think that eyes and mouth should be painted with some details, face up is very important, it gives a personality to your doll!
It's cool to learn more about face up! It's a important part of the hobby to me:3nodding:

    14. I guess I am a bit so-so on blank versus painted. My only doll right now is DC's event doll Carol, and she just has this sweetest little smile that I love. She is blank right now because I just don't have the time or the space to do face ups, but it really doesn't bother me or ruin the joy I get from her.
If I had a more human doll, however, I would feel differently. I wouldn't really like having a blank human face sit around, it would bug me :sweat

    15. I find a lot of dolls beautiful blank, but I always paint mine. I prefer them to have face-ups, mostly because the absence of details like eyebrows and eyelashes kind of makes them look inhuman to me.

    16. My DZ Benjamin, actually. He looks so great - he'd only require a mere minimum of face-up. A tiny bit of color on the lips maybe - but not too dark! And some shading around the eyes but that's about it. I don't quite dare to send him out for a face-up or face-up him myself.

    17. All my doll have company faceups, I love to try doing my own, I do have the products to do them, just not that brave yet :( I actually thought that I get a practice head to try first, pretty sure thats a good idea for me.:pout:

    18. And they all look so realistic! Their dolls are an inspiration to me.

    19. only because I'm scared I'll mess her up lol. Just kidding I stripped her faceup because I wasn't really happy with parts of it and i'm in the process of giving her a new one but tbh as soon as she was blank again I just sat there and marveled at how beautiful she is without anything on her face. I still plan on painting her but I was really taken aback that I had forgotten how pretty blank dolls are.

    20. For me, less is more. If I am seeking a norma looking face, I would prefer less paint on my faceup as it looks more natural to me. But when seeking faceups for certain characters, LAY ON THAT MAKEUP PEEPS!
