1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you find BJDs calming?

Mar 9, 2009

    1. it depends if they're behaving or not! XD

Seriously though, yes. Whenever I'm in a bad mood taking pictures, changing clothes, rearranging rooms... it all calms me down.

    2. Absolutely! If anyone would have said I would be sitting around happily nattering away to a bunch of dolls a few short years ago, I would have said they were completely bonkers. As it turns out, I find incredible peace with my dolls and look forward to my quiet time with them... magic!

    3. I find them very calming. I could be in a really bad mood and looking at any of my dolls puts me in a better mood!

    4. The dolls themselves are very calming. But the hobby stresses me out sometimes, money wise. There are just so many things that they want (and I want)!~

    5. Absolutely I find my girl calming! Just hugging her is enough to let out the pressure from a stressful day ^_^.

    6. After having my dolls I noticed a change in my temperment. I am much calmer and have more positive ways for stress relief. It does help me when I am in a bad mood as well. Sewing clothes, doing faceup, taking photos, and making things for them is really relaxing. It truely keeps me content ^^

But I did notice that I get pretty antsy waiting for a new doll to arrive though. So during that wait I can be a bit on the edge and impatient. :sweat

    7. I've always found dolls to be calming, but my msd is particularly so. I keep her on a shelf right near my bed and computer, so whenever I start feeling stressed I can look at her. When I'm having a particularly rough time, I like to take her down and just hold her around the waist. For some reason, feeling her weight and shape in my hand is very soothing. Then I stroke her hair and her beautiful little face just makes me smile.

Making clothes for her is also really calming for me. Unless something goes wrong. But I love being able to dig through my scraps draws and make something fun for her. And then take pictures. Lots and lots of pictures.

The only really stressful part of BJDs for me is the cost involved. I have a decent sized list of dolls that I want to get next, but I'm always second guessing if they're really worth it or if I should use the money for something else (like a camera). At least I don't have to worry about buying clothes! Though Angelina could use a pair of shoes eventually... The stress factor is nothing compared to the soothing nature of my doll, though.

    8. I know I find them very relaxing. There's nothing more fun than buying little toys and accessories for them, fixing them up. The creative process that goes into the hobby is lots of fun.

I only find it stressful when they need new clothes. Since I insist on making everything myself (which is partly necessity as Pipos PI/Jr. PI clothes are hard to find) it can be difficult to find the time to make them new things.

    9. I do find the dolls to be calming. When I'm stressed out, just spending a few moments rearranging the doll shelf, dressing them in different outfits or setting up little scenes with their tiny little props helps me to clear my mind and get a better perspective on whatever it is that's bugging me. The dolly hobby helps keep me from flipping out when real world things are bothering me and getting on my last nerve.

    10. I'm new to the bjd world and haven't been though too much anxiety in the last few weeks BUT I do find doll care in general to be soothing. My husband went through an unexpected illness and hospital stay in February and I found dress and sewing for my dolls in the evenings to be a nice calming distraction.

    11. The room in which I keep my dolls is very quiet, so then while playing with my dolls makes it very calming. I can talk to them softly as I'm dressing them or setting them up. I can sometimes just sit in there, putting their things in order and listen to a little Sigur Rios and I come out of there feeling great about my BJD's.

    12. I agree with the majority; I find my dolls calming. It's nice just to sit and look at them, or sew something, or get to go outside and take some pictures. My doll collecting and my beginning college occurred pretty close together, so sometimes I think of doll time as time to be a kid again for a while and escape the big kid college stuff (though I never seem to escape the financial aspect :sweat)

    13. i find my Julian very calming, but some of my other ones with get me riled up, Alice would pull out the negative/more violent feelings/emotions, but when i got her her boy Krystopher she automatically calmed down...Luna and Xeram are always emanating dark feelings out to everyone, but they are so absorbed with each other that they don't care about anyone else really...

    14. I find them extremely calming. I currently have two girls at home with plenty more on the way. :aheartbea

I'm an only child, and I'm often alone. I don't have a lot of close friends, so my dolls keep me company. Bringing home my first girl was like having a little sister to play with. :) She's an SD, though, so I can't bring her around all the time.

After my second girl arrived, I've pretty much been bringing her around every day. She's a tiny, so she's very convenient to bring in my bag. She acts as a sort of "security blanket" for me, and keeps me from getting lonely. :aheartbea

    15. Yes, definitely. When I'm all stressed out from real life I enter my room, close the doors behind me and spend hours in my own little world to calm me down. My room looks very unreal, full of dolls and ponies and is as colourful as the rainbow. I leave all the negativity outside and enjoy my hobbies, doing artsy things and playing around. That really calms me down.

    16. I wouldn't go so far as to say my dolls give me "personal peace" but I do find that the hobby provides a temporary escape from real-life stresses. Hobbies are good for that. :) As for the calming effects, yes I can say that just sitting still and holding one of my dolls does calm me. Out of all my BJD, Michael and Tyler are the ones I most like to hold/cuddle. I have lots of non-BJD dolls too, and there are a few that are very calming to hold. I like having my BJD in the room with me when I'm doing something like sewing or reading, too.

    17. I do find the ones I have calming to look at, but the thought of buying anymore makes me very anxious because I know I shouldn't.

    18. I also find them calming. They are my creative outlet and something that can distract me from problems that can't be fixed right now. I have a lot of health problems and it's nice to have a fun distraction. And I can't deny that throughout my whole life I've had a doll by my side. It's a little piece of me that I can hold.

    19. I find my boys very calming. Well- Yukio just got here last Wednesday, so he hasn't dealt with much, but Iris has sat with me through many a panic attack. There have been times when I've been in tears or very ill and I'd sit with Iris and watch TV while I just idly played with his toes, or just fidgeted with getting his hair right.

    20. Very much so. They've been with me through pretty rough times - I have depression and anxiety issues as well, so I can look to them always, even on my worst days.
