1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you find BJDs calming?

Mar 9, 2009

    1. This'll sound silly, but since I'm not allowed to have pets in my house (which are proven to be calming to those with anxiety disorders, which I suffer from), the next best thing for me is having a doll nearby. Sometimes even adjusting a wing or changing their outfit eases my mind a fair bit. I once spent ten minutes just softly brushing one of my girl's wigs out. It was pretty therapeutic, especially since I'd had a really bad day at work.

    2. I don't know about 'calming', but definitely comforting. Sometimes it gets overwhelming...

    3. i dont know about calming but thinking about my dolls and doll plans is a lot more pleasant than some of the other subjects i could be thinking about, I need an outlet to do something fun otherwise i end falling into a routine of working and sleeping and sleeping and working~ not very fulfilling

    4. I kinda find them to be exciting. But in a way that distracts me from stress and bad things.

Looking around here on the forums and deviant art was what pulled me through one of the roughest patches of depression. And when I gotuch better I saved up, and bought my first doll. And she continued ,and still does, to be a source of relief for me.

    5. I don't know about "calming", but thinking about my dolls all the time gives me a distraction from real life. I'm a bit of an escapist. I cope with stress and anxiety by floating off into my own world. I used to do this by making up stories and (occasionally) writing them down, but nowadays I do it by planning my next doll, or planning a new doll outfit, or a photo shoot.

It also gives my life a bit of direction and purpose. I find a great amount of joy in having little personal projects like this. If I wasn't working towards something like a doll, I would feel a bit lost and therefore unhappy and therefore very anxious. So my dolls are "calming" in that respect too.

Over the summer my boyfriend broke up with me and I lost my job so I was feeling a bit down in the dumps (that's an understatement). My dolls gave me something else to focus on through this time. They're a very uplifting part of my life :D

    6. I most definitely think so! Whenever I feel sad about a particular day and my token kitty isn't around for lots of cuddles, my little Latis and their brightly smiling faces always make me feel way way better. :) I think the fact that they're tinies and children at that, are what make them so much more soothing toward something like a bad day versus my SD girls. Their storylines deal with silliness and happy childhood times and their imagined personas bring me back to a calm state.

    7. They are definitely calming. Whenever I am at home and stressing over something, I'll crawl over to my doll corner to have a zen moment. Minus my more facially animated guys, the dolls all have serene, uncaring expressions etched into their faces that carries the same energy into me.

    8. Yes, just looking at them calms me down! Knitting things for them, relieves stress... and lots of BJD's have such calm, serene faces

    9. I think dolls are calming. I mean I am one to stress a lot about things that are not in my control or things that just shouldn't stress me out in general that isnt for me to even stress about, yet I stress about things all of the time. And in the time that I have found the BJD community I have been able to actually relax. Which is really nice. I work in retail and I don't know if any of you do as well but holidays are here and it has just been crazy at work, I confide in this hobby now to help me relax and take my mind off of things. <3

    10. They're definitely calming in the sense that they give me comfort when I'm going through rough times, or when I see them, my heart eases and I smile. Being able to find such a feeling through this hobby is one of the reasons why I'm in it.

    11. I don't think I've answered this topic yet...

Yes, I definitely find BJDs calming. I like keeping my hands busy with something and BJDs are perfect for that, especially if I'm anxious about something. Looking at them is rather pleasant as well. It's like looking at beautiful art.

    12. Honestly ... I find my cats a lot more calming than my dolls, since when I'm in a bad mood my cats will curl up in my lap and are warm and cuddly and purr a lot. I've recently decided there is no sound more comforting in the world than a cat purring. True, sometimes they can be psychotic, destructive, furry pains in the ass, but I guess kids aren't much better in that respect. heh

That being said, I do love my dolls. They are beautiful to look at and I do enjoy playing with them and such. And I do find playing with them can be a nice, relaxing time in the way watching a sappy movie or reading a good book is a nice, relaxing time. But if I need to cuddle something, I don't find them particularly fun to hug. They're hard and cold and have pointy bits and they don't purr or snuggle the way animals do. If it came down to that, I'd choose to snuggle a cat over a doll any time. :)

    13. I was just wondering because I've talked to my sister and she says it's helps to escape the stresses of life. I just want to hear from others to hear their views.

    14. It uh xD...it adds to my stress because I have heads but no bodies. The body is supposed to be on the way though so once I have it put together I'll probably relax. My hobbies do tend to be a bit of a get away for me and I don't expect the dolls to be any different.

    15. Oh ok cool I'm looking at this one doll I like. I'm also looking for different clothes for her, but I'm also trying to fine the right name to give her.

    16. She might tell you her name when she arrives. It's not as creepy as it sounds. And I find a little dolly friend on my desk helps me get through the rougher days.

    17. Cool because I thought of some names but none seem to be right. I'll wait til she arrives.

    18. I agree with Jobee, I didn't have a name for Kai until he arrived and he told me himself.

Kai really does help me out with stress, which I wasn't expecting. I find him very relaxing just to hold and keep on my lap when I'm working. His weight really grounds me and reminds me when my head is tripping off into stress land that I'm blowing things out of proportion. It's also just plain nice to have something so beautiful to look at every once in a while.

    19. I'm so excited to get my first doll I'm just still trying to pick her out

    20. He's helping me so much.
If I could take him out with me I'd do it.
