1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you find limited dolls very.. limiting?

Nov 22, 2009

    1. I think that Limited's are a very cool idea, but I would feel very obligated to keeping keep their original design. I'd be heartbroken to see their limited face-ups wearing away, or they were to yellow, or if they weren't what I expected/didn't fit into the character I may have planned. I feel more comfortable with customizing and creating my own character dolls, and possibly a limited mold would make me feel very limited to working around the company's idea and concept of the doll. If I had a limited, I would probably treat it more precious and carefully than my other dolls.

    2. I usually have to see the sculpt without the limited default faceup to decide whether I like it or not...which by then it's usually too late to own it for an uninflated price. So yes, limiteds tend to scare me off a little because I don't know if I'd have a place for them, etc.

    3. I'm kinda mad right now because a limited doll head looks PERFECT for a character I've wanted to make for AGES. What makes it so disappointing is that the company, Pixydoll, makes ALL of their things in short supply- It's hard enough finding ANY things from them, much less the specific one I want. It's also a disappointment because the one I want, Van- is SMILING. And I know that's SUCH A RARE QUALITY IN DOLLS. ESPECIALLY SD MALES. So. I'm reeeeally kicking myself for probably not being able to get it.

    4. Do you treat your limited dolls differently than your regular release dolls?

Normally no; I tend to treat them the same as I do to the rest of my ABJD collection. I re-do there face-ups ect. But then again, I have only owned one limited doll. A Volks SDC Kurt.

Do you feel more comfortable expressing creativity through colors/painting/modding on a doll that is not limited?

I don't mod dolls... as of yet. But I am starting to do face-ups. Its the same for each doll, I feel guilty when I wipe there default face-up. But once I have finished I regret nothing.

Have you ever compromised a characters sculpt because you did not want to be held back by the limitations of a limited doll?

No. I create my characters by the sculpt. Meaning, I have a character in mind, I create it from whatever sculpt suits it. Limited or not.

    5. I hink that the whole concept of a limited doll is at the same time exciting and anxiogenous. On one side, there is the whole "uniqueness" part, when you will be one of the only "choosen ones" (joking) to own that doll. On the other side, the feeling of having to decide wheter or not buy that doll since you're in time, and the horror in finding out that it has sold out. Personally, i'm madly in love with one of the soom limited (oh god, oh god) and i find myself partially calmer for this, because i have time to save without limits, and anxious because her price may keep rising and i may never find one for sale again.
So in some ways yes, they may be very limiting. But people i know who have managed to get one limited before it wasn't sold anymore, they were all very happy. I guess it has strong pros and cons.

    6. As hard as it is, I never buy when I first see a new doll. I wait and if I still love him or her some months later, I'll buy if I have the money. There will always be that someone that buys on impulse and decides it's not the doll for them. Since I am so sure I love the sculpt, I don't mind paying a bit more than I would have. I guess in short I'd rather pay a little more and be sure that I'll love the doll rather than spend money on impulse only to have to resell later.
