Do you have a bjd ambassador?

Jul 27, 2011

    1. Yes, I have a Yo-Sized Tiny which is my 'House-elf' Bottle. When I start talking about BJDs I tend to cover the different reason people are into the hobby, and she tends to cover each point well. She is dyed and obviouslly modded, so I can show how people modify the dolls, making them art pieces and unique. She's also a sturdy doll so I don't worry about her getting damaged by strangers. I personally like making clothes, and the outfit she is wearing was made by me and simple. She doesn't wear shoes, and the wig I also made so I get away from the expensive thing, along with that she's not an expensive doll either. She doesn't wear much in regards to clothes, so it's easy to show off the joints and pose-ability. Her face-up was done by a friend, and so I can talk about how people like to paint the face-ups. Her head cap is magnatic so easy to remove and show how the eyes are put in.

    2. I guess I kinda of do a dollie amassador Nicky my DZ X. He was my first and people seem to like him a lot everyone usually says that he is there favorite. I also use my girl Ally from OceanMoon too she is a 50cm doll and is just this little precious girl often people just really like her then they start asking about price usually.

    3. well right now I don't have any dolls but if I consider all the dolls I had my MNF woosoo was probably my BJD embassador ^^
amazing poseability, super cute face, kinda hot body >) everyone just love him!
and from personnal experiences, people seems to prefer smaller dolls. SD are just waaaaay to big for a lot of people (and it really suprised me because in my opinion they are the most convinient size! not that bad to take everywhere and much easier to sew for them and find accessories).

    4. I use Emily as my ambassador. She's my first BJD. She's a Bobobie which makes her not so scary price wise when they ask. I've had many a time when women and children would come up and look at her, and since I'm not scared of having her damaged I don't mind them touching her. ^.^ I even had a time where a little girl walked up to me with her barbie. She asked to look at it, and I explained that when you grow up you get bigger dollies. I made sure her dad heard 'when you grow up'. He nodded thank you and I went my merry way.

    5. I don't have an ambassador really. All my dolls are MSD sized, and I think I would probably bring Vivica (DZ Fei, girl), as someone might be a bit put off by Aubree's white skin (RS Li). I plan on eventually getting a tiny- a Pukipuki to carry around with me, so like AmyAngel said, "s/he's it".

It depends on the person you're showing them to also. If it's one of your mom's coworkers, ask your mom's opinion on who might be a good doll to bring.

    6. Nomi: I didn't take it as an insult, so no worries. I was just confused! :) I also thought a bit more and the role of "ambassador" changes based on who my newest one is. I'm going to have to get a cute basket or tote when the kitty twins get here, lol.

    7. I guess my 'ambassador' would be my Delf Lu Wen, Locke.
It started because one of my close friends has a fear of dolls, (the realistic detail freaks her out) Since he has fangs he is technically not 'human' so he's the one I showed her, and from there it just made sense to make him the 'this is what a BJD is' doll. I find too that, because he's an SD and a boy it helps people understand that they are not normal dolls (big dolls are more commonly girls after all)

    8. So, I was wondering. Do you have a bjd ambassador, a certain bjd you use to introduce new people? Who did you pick and how?

When my aunt saw my FeePle Riff for the first time, she fell in love with BJD's, and so did my cousin. Most of the time when people see my BJD's for the first time, they like my two little BBB Elfkins. However, now that I have an EID woman, I've caused a big stir, lol! I've received the odd critical remark before with my SD boys, but my SD girl only gets compliments.

I would probably use all my dolls to introduce new people who are interested in BJDs since I have tinies, MSD and SD sized dolls. No Yo-SD, though...yet. ;]

    9. Good question I never thought about it. ^^

I usually show off my first doll who happens to be an SD to friends or family. He is a Migidoll Ryu and everyone just love him so he usually the first doll I'll introduce. But I also have an Yo-SD and now I rather he be the BJD ambassador because my SD is so heavy to lug around.

    10. Usually if I were going to take one of my dolls out to show off it would be Aric or Noble. Aric is the love of my life LOL. He is an SD, and one of my larger ones at that (63cms) but I am most attached to his character and I am comfortable with him. He is who he is and so he is who I think of when I want to show off a doll. I just adore that pouty boy. I can see where a larger Sd boy would be intimidating but you really get the feel for how these dolls are different than other dolls when you see one and I think Aric gives a feeling for why they are so special. His character is sort of me which makes me even more attached to him. Noble is another, he is my oldest doll and most common companion. He is 70cms and just really makes an impression. I've done a lot of playing with his face up so it is fun to show him off. He is also my youngest son's favorite of my dolls and when I first got him they were the same size. It is funny to share that sort of thing. But he can be a bit intimidating because of his size and weight if you aren't used to him.

I do have an MSD that I take sometimes because he is a fantasy sculpt and I've been told he is so cute he practically makes you ill (LOL). He has a nice company face up but for me that makes him a little less fun to show off. I adore him but it just isn't as much fun. I'm excited for my little deer boy to arrive and then I think he shall be my tiny dolly mascot.

    11. Back when I had my whole crew together it was almost -always- my Minifee Seorin (unless I had someone else out with me at the time). He was on an A-line body, very well poseable, and I loved showing off the sculpted abs :P
He was who I brought with me when I did a speech on BJDS for my Speech class.

Now, only having two full dolls and three floating heads, I'd probably show off both my Minifee Woosoo, and my Volks F01, so I can show them the differences and what not, until I get my crew back together, which then, it will most likely be my Seorin again, for biased purposes :P Or unless I get a pukifee, then I might have him/her on me a decent amount of the time.

    12. I also don't understand the comparisson between Barbie and MSD... in that case, anyone that wants to see my dollies will have to see my sole MSD who looks "like a Barbie". :doh

    13. Sorry, I didn't mean to insult anyone with that (I'm going to change it).
I was thinking perticuarly of my slim mini who is definatly the most barbie looking of my dolls, she's roughly the same size, has the same long hair, wears the most barbie like clothes...

    14. I think I'd take my DM Kid Flocke, Emma. She's MSD-sized, and can fit into more bags than my BBB Apollo Stephen can.

    15. It's neat to hear what factors into everyone's desisions.
and it looks like so far msds are winning :)

I actually took two of my bjds down to show my mum's friend today, but by a stroke of bad luck she changed her shift at the last minute and we missed each other.
I'm going to try again later in the week. I ended up deciding to bring, my zaoll girl, and my 'barbie' msd, since that way I can show two different sizes, and since the two have vastly different styles a little bit of variatly :)

    16. Saif is probably my ambassador since he's out and about the most often. Muniya is an awful poser (in need of restringing of sueding) so she's terrible for showing off the poseability aspect of BJDs that I love so much. Quinlan's got a scar eye (and a gear eye in his other eye socket) so I tend to not show him off to people who scare easily.

    17. Since i got Rain, my Littlefee Shiwoo, he has become my ambassador dollie. He's so little compared to my others, which makes him really easy to take out and about...and he's just plain adorable. I've had people in shops stop me and ask about him. He's also very 'normal looking' compared to some of my others. He has a natural hair colour and is normal skin and dresses like an average little boy (aside from his angel wings) so think he weirds people out less than some of my others.

    18. I don't really have one. Talk of BJDs only comes up with strangers when I have a doll out in public with me, in which case it's either a fabric store, or a meet. I have found that people are more likely to approach me when I'm with a group, so it's most likely going to be a Kara Klum since one of them is usually the meet-goer simply because they're my favorites. I'll probably have my Leek D/LTF hybrid too in that case so I could show both off.

If I'm randomly talking to someone about dolls any other time I do usually have my Puki with me...I think he's a terrible Doll Ambassador since he's an exceptionally angry-looking Chichi with really wild hair, but most people think he's adorable XD so I guess he works!

I'm not sure who I would pick if I had to make a conscience decision about it. I've met a lot of people who are unnerved by my larger dolls, but adore my tinies....so it would probably be a tiny (26cm) or an MSD. And of course a Puki lol
If there's no freak-out over those they can see the big ones next time XD

    19. I think YoSD size dolls say "cute" to the people who don't know about BJD, and they are easy to bring everywhere. But I would rather use a SD as an ambassador just because of the price. Tinies can seem very pricy to people who count "inch vs. currency in use", especially when they know about bigger dolls. And proportionnally they are indeed very expensive ^^; Also it seems people are more impressed by SD size dolls. I often hear "it's beautiful" just because "it's big", even when there are tinies or MSD size in the neighbourhood. It's especially true when strangers come to talk while we have a public meet. (but people used to dolls in general like tinies better)

That said, I don't have a specific ambassador at home. I go out with dolls mostly for dolly meets, rarely on a whim. But I would say my Unoss or my SD Anais, because they are my favourite anyway.

    20. By default I have to pick the most normal-looking doll or I'd send people running

Since I only own boys, that typically means a doll with a short-haired wig, lively skin tone, natural hair/eye color, and male clothing. I usually pick my Elfdoll K when someone wants to see one of my BJDs, but because he looks too "real" I have to resort to my Dream of Doll Wi. Sometimes there's the oddball though, who likes to see unusual doll characteristics...then I bring out my Volks Tony, who wears a very long-haired wig.
