Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do you hide your dolls when a repair person comes to your house or apartment ?

Jan 23, 2013

    1. I don`t hide my Dolls too.
Why sould i hide my Hobby??
It`s my Home and i `m Standing to my Dolls :aheartbea

    2. For me, I hide them because I never understand estimate someone else knowing their worth. I would hate for them to be stolen.

As for the strange looks, he was probably just curious. At first I thought you wrote that he wanted to touch your doll, and my heart instantly starting pounding. Imagine how dirty a repair man's hands are? We don't even let the sun touch our dolls, imagine a plumber? Eeek!!:o

    3. I would not leave a doll out in the main room of our house unattended, but that's because we have dogs, and everything is a potential chew toy for a dog. I wouldn't be embarrassed to have one on display otherwise, though.

    4. I have my doll in our living room on a table we designated for my dolls. I've had building repair and cable repair people come in a lot and they've shown zero interest or said oh those look cool. Not much else. My mom's friends have their opinions or comments and (depending on the person I tell her to shove it I don't care what she thinks) they are usually interested and want to know more either they collected something similar or think they are glass. I honestly don't care what people think of my doll my closest friends approve either way my mom wants to join the hobby and I live in a city of crazier things lol.

    5. At the moment, my doll is usually kept in her box. Although, I do have non-bjd dolls and figures displayed in a glass cabinet in my room, so, yeah, if random people [repairmen, relatives, etc.] enter my room, I can't really hide them since they're too many. x'D
There are some times when I let my bjd doll just sit on the couch inside my room, though. When that happens, I don't really bother moving her even if someone comes in -- except if she's in the danger of being sit on. xD

    6. Since we are selling our house, we have people coming in for showings all the time. I don't worry about theft as the Realtor is always with them and I doubt most people would know the value of them anyway, but I do worry that these visitors will want to touch or play with them thinking they were just toys. I would be devastated if they were damaged by careless people. I I had a nice doll cabinet (that would protect them from the sun as well) I would leave them out of sure.

    7. No, cos my dollies reside in their own cabinet in my bedroom.

    8. They dont usually come into my room anyway so... no. :)

    9. When I'm not working with them I always put them away, wrap them up, and put them in their bag, so yes, but mainly when a repair person comes over. Usually only if someone's going in our bedroom, I tend to hide the dolls and anything valuable. If my rings are on the nightstand, I'll put them on, or hide those.
With visitors its different, considering no one even goes near the bedroom.

    10. I take my doll around the house with me when I'm going to be spending a long time there. Usually when people come over she's on the table because we were watching anime together. I secretly delight in seeing people's response to her, but they usually don't notice. I'm still confused as to how you can miss an SD sized doll sitting on a kitchen table, but meh.

    11. My house is 3 stories, and the dolls are on a bookshelf in a hall on the first floor where I can display them and not worry too much about yellowing because it's dark, so I have had a couple of repair people walk past them. I don't think they've really noticed them though! At least I've never noticed a reaction.

And while I always feel the need to do some extra cleaning if I'm expecting someone, I wouldn't ever actually hide something like my dolls! I couldn't give a damn if someone came to my house and thought they were weird. :)

    12. Haha I know what you mean. WE have had all kinds of people over and my girls are kept in a display case away from light and temperature extremes, but some of them are naked bodies with no heads ( off for faceups)... I have had relatives look, not remembering before hand to dress my doll bodies lol...
We have to have some repair guys over soon so thanks for the reminder, :)

My hubby has a huge action figure collection, it takes up half our bedroom wall. Im guessing that most people dont even SEE my doll collection as it is masked by his :)

    13. I do hide my dolls, mostly because I don't like the whole conversation of "what are you, a crazy doll lady??" Which has happened before with a repairman! :| I'm incredibly self-conscious about my hobby, and I keep my dolls in a basket in a corner of the room, out of sight (and sunlight).

When I purchase my first home, I plan on getting a glass cabinet for my future hobby room/office, and I'll have my BJDs, Pullips, and Blythes on full display. There's something about a glass cabinet that makes them seem more grown up than, say, sitting on my dresser! :)

    14. And that's the right moment when you can start changing people's image of us. :) Our society will never accept dolls as a normal/common hobby like stamps or coins if we keep hiding them.

    15. I just got my first bjd recently, but I would not feel the need to hide it. A lot of people have hobbies. This one is mine and that's that! I do love a good conversation starter piece, anyway. :)

    16. This question made me laugh when I saw it because there are repair workers at my house right now. We are having the windows replaced and the house insulated and resided (just in time for some bitter winter weather, too!) The first room they started working on this Monday was my art room... which is chock full of large paintings of weird fairy-tale imagery and art supplies everywhere and... all of my dolls! I don't even think they noticed. They're in and out of so many houses, I'm sure it all runs together. They were in there to replace the side entry door and the windows, and that's what they did. Which is exactly what I expected, so no, it never occurred to me to put them away.

    17. No as I have way too many and also I find it interesting to see what the reactions are. I also have dollhouses and some are very interested in them and some have no interest at all. It is always interesting to see if they want to chat about them or totally ignore them.

    18. A little OT maybe but once I had to answer the door for the phone-line guy and I was actually listening to metal music at full volume, I kept listening and he just did his job

And about bjds, once I took my minifee out because I wanted to get her measurements for some clothes.
I placed her on the sofa and then the pizza delivery guy arrived :XD: he didn't even look at her though.

    19. I only just now got into BJDs, but before this I was traveling with a small collection of Moxie Teenz, their wigs and clothes. The cleaning person came into the hotel room, and asked me about the dolls. I would up having a lovely conversation with her about the dolls, making clothing, etc. So no, I don't hide my dolls. :)

    20. Nope. The gentleman who read my gas meter was enamoured with them, and told me how amazing they were. He said my Saint reminded him of a touring Italian sculpture exhibit he'd seen once. That put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.
