It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do you hide your dolls when a repair person comes to your house or apartment ?

Jan 23, 2013

    1. In general, no, I just leave my dolls on their shelves (or out with me if I'm actively working with one), and they've never been bothered. I live in an apartment complex, and generally don't get much warning that maintenance is coming by, and I have over 20 dolls so hiding all of them is a real pain anyway.

However, on a recent maintenance trip, I did "hide" them a bit. But that was because the window in my bedroom (where all the dolls are kept) was being replaced, and the shelves where they sit are all areas that could have been bumped by a careless worker who didn't realize how expensive and fragile they are. So I did remove all of them from the bedroom, and set them all down on the couch instead. I then realized that the morning sun comes in and hits that couch directly, and that it was just a little creepy having all of them sitting there staring at the door, so I tossed a blanket over them and left a note on top of that to not touch or sit on the covered couch due to fragile items below the blanket. Everything was untouched (except for one dent where the cat had jumped up there) when I got back, and I was able to safely return everyone to their original shelves.

But this was less about actively hiding them, and more simply removing them from an area where they were at a minor risk of damage. I certainly don't hide them from other maintenance trips.

    2. I haven't had that particular experience yet (though I would likely leave them where they were unless there was a real danger they could be damaged), but a few years ago when we were attempting to sell the house I was told by the real estate agent that I had to pack up my dolls in an effort to 'depersonalize' the place. I honestly think the agent was just freaked out by them a little since we weren't asked to pack up any of our other personal items or collections.

    3. I keep my dolls in boxes so the repairman wouldn't even see them. Even if I did leave them out, I'll probably hide them while they're there. Not that I don't trust people, but why give them an incentive to come back? As far as I know....every single person that have seen the dolls always asks about their price. So I don't want them to know that the house they just visited has expensive pieces of art lying around for the taking.

    4. For protection? Yeah, I don't want the doll out where it can get debris on it or the chance of it getting moved or broken. For embarrassment? Nah, I have nerdy stuff all over the place so the dolls would fit right in...in fact, probably be over looked in most cases. Pretty sure a 4ft Teenage mutant ninja turtles statue would be the first eye grabber.

    5. Yeah. I usually put my resin cuties away, where they can't be seen or hurt, but I also don't usually tell my friends about the hobby since I'm afraid they'll think I'm too weird or strange...

    6. I put my dolls on this table beside my bed and give them large white cloth to cover them and some black capes above the white clothes. I put them that way so they'll stay safe from the sunlight and protect the resin from yellowing. When some guy come to repair my bathroom or AC they didn't notice them so I think I hide them without any intent for doing that...

    7. I always put my dolls away when there's people I don't know in my home. I don't want them to get damaged more than I care about their opinion though.

    8. Well at first I was but when I moved I had to get the direct tv guy to set up the tv stuff and what not. But to my surprise he didn't react to them or anything. I just think to myself they have probably seen worse things then this lol

    9. I keep them out mostly. I only put them away when my friend and her boyfriend stop by as he is terrified of dolls.

    10. Usually I keep my dolls out, only if someone is trying to fix something which will make a mess, then I will put them away in their boxes

    11. I usually don't care about taking my dolls away, regardless of who's visiting me. They live in a showcase, and as I sew a lot several dolls are often completely undressed. I just throw some stuff on them to cover their private parts.

    12. Nah, I can sometimes feel embarassed about my dolls, but not enough to hide them in my own home.

    13. i havent actually been in a situation where there would be any strangers looking at my dolls (other than when i take Iliad out) I don't tend to leave them out in the open anyways just because i have a place for them but otherwise i don't see any reason for myself to hide them when i already have them out.

    14. I don't have a doll yet but I collect a lot of things. I mean a lot. Of. Things. The largest (and consequently most visible) collections are Pokemon stuff and geisha statues, and I keep them all in plain view in my shelf/glass cabinet in my room (in fact, they're literally the first thing you see if you turn towards my room on the hallway and the door is open). If a repair person comes into my house but doesn't need to go into my room then better, but if they need to come in that's fine, I'm proud of my collections, I know how hard I've worked for them so I assume when I do have my first doll with me she'll get the same treatment. I only hide my things (and by that I mean lock my room, too much stuff to hide) if I have people coming over with children, but then it's a matter of safety and not being embarrassed.

    15. Well, I keep my girl in her box all the time. This is my first bjd and I am so paranoid about her... I take her out only for fitting clothes :P Other than that - I keep her in a box. But I keep most of my valuable things in the boxes, whatever it may be. :P

    16. If I were to do so it'd be for the same reasons I wouldn't leave valuable/fragile stuff in the way when company is around.

    17. Likewise! My "doll room" is a spare bedroom, so there's not really much in there I'd call a repairman for in the first place. When they see the closed door, from the hallway, I'm sure a lot of them just assume it must be a bedroom or closet.

    18. No, I would not hide my doll because I don't care about what a repair man thinks. Unless it's something positive.

    19. I have a few friends that I would hide them from... but since repair men never have to be in my room, I've never worried about it. The only person I get looks from os my fiance.... he rolls his eyes on occasion because he knows how much I spent. :)

    20. Never had that experience but I don't think I would hide my dolls away.
I know one of my friends has her house full of dolls and other figurines that she collects. An electrician walked in and saw the first few dolls and thought it was pretty cool, then walked into the living room and said 'Aaah! There's so many!' :o
Pretty sure repair people have seen heaps of houses and nothing is new to them anyway.
