1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Do you hide your dolls when a repair person comes to your house or apartment ?

Jan 23, 2013

    1. My house is so small that I'm not sure where I'd hide them! I'd have to dig out their boxes and then lay all the boxes on top of my shoes in the bottom of the closet then close the door and hope I didn't need shoes. I've never felt a need to hide them for embarrassment reasons, but I feel like if I brought a guy home I might put them away until I had a chance to properly ease him into knowing I collect dolls. Or not, if he doesn't like it he can leave, there are plenty of fish in the sea. ;)

    2. After my friend Scott returns from vacation in a couple of weeks, he has promised to install a ceiling fan in my room. I don't care if he sees my dolls, but I worry they could get damaged while he's working. I'll put them in their boxes and under my bed while he's here. Fortunately I only have 7 dolls, so that isn't a problem.

Scott did see my dolls when he looked in my room to see where he would install the fan, and all he said was "Oh you have dolls."

    3. Nope. I love showing mine to everyone! <3 When the charter guy came to the house I had Alaska sitting on the table in the open :) I was sewing clothes for her so she was naked.... xD No telling what was going through his head! LOL

    4. I don't. But I do not have too many questionable visitors. Plus why would I hide them? Because it is weird to own dolls? No way. I believe that classifying people into weird and normal is wrong. So I refuse to be judged. My dolls don't hurt anyone so if you don't like them in my house - your problem not mine. As far as any concerns for safety go, I don't think most repair men would know the value in these dolls. So I just leave everything as it is.

    5. I hide them more to protect them from people who touch things without permission ): (Especially if it's strangers or small children coming into the house) Not because I am ashamed or anything haha!

    6. Nope, even have invited a threesome of small girls over to play in the doll room -- with the understanding that some dolls, BJD's especially, are out of bounds.
We shall see how it goes!

    7. I might if they're going to make a mess or if I won't be home when they come over. I'm not ashamed of them but I don't want anything to happen to them either.

    8. Oh that is so true! We have friends with a young boy. He always wants to touch the dolls. I have to tell his parents it is not a good idea:)

    9. I think this reply Is more what the question was referring to. It's not a question of being ashamed of someone seeing that you have dolls, but whether you think you need to protect them when a repair person comes over. At least that's what I thought the question was referring to.
I'm not ashamed of my dolls, but I don't want something to happen when someone is working and using tools, and going up and down a ladder, etc. I'd be so afraid something could get dropped on one of my dolls, or the shelves could get bumped and they'd fall off.

    10. Yeah, I actually hide my dolls everytime someone's going in my room lol. I don't think I've had a repair person over since I was like 7, but our landlord comes over sometimes and I always hide them. To me it's just easier to hide them than explain. So yes, I do get a little embarrassed, but I'm trying not to.

    11. Nah, I keep them out. In fact, the insurance adjuster who came over loved my dolls. He had two little girls and thought they were very neat. :)

    12. I hide them if a girl comes over lol

    13. Hmm, my dolls live in boxes, mostly in the closets. So not really an issue. But generally when anyone comes over I get out every doll and show them off. I am guessing that a repairman would probably be too busy or uninterested in my dolls, so I probably wouldn't get them out.

    14. I only move them if they are going to be in the way of where the repairman needs to be, but no, I don't generally hide them. The repairmen in my apartment complex have known me for years, and frequently see me out taking pictures of different dolls outside, or outside sealing heads for painting, so I'm just that weird doll lady. XD

    15. I keep my dolls in my wardrobe, so they are already hidden from sight to begin with. But if anyone arrives while I have them out, I wouldn't go out of my way to put them away.

The repairmen are usually very respectful, so they wouldn't really comment on anything unless they know you well. I've gotten a couple of questions from the guy who services our air conditioner before, but it's more out of curiosity. They don't really want to touch the dolls. :'D

    16. It would take me longer to hide them than the repair takes, so no. But they have led to some really fun moments - the best one was when a plumber came to swap out our water heater. He noticed my Hajime Saito (not the Volks model, one I put together a couple of years earlier), for whom I'd made some cigarettes. He did a double-take and yelped "Is that doll SMOKING?" :) -- I find that most of the repair guys we get these days are familiar enough with anime that they recognize the look of the dolls right away, and if they say anything at all it's along the lines of "wow, how cool."

... and I would never have a repairman in the house if nobody was home. Never.

    17. Only if they were in the way of where the person was working. I actually moved them today while my blinds were being installed.

    18. I've never hid them from anyone, though I think my fiance has had more reaction from a repair person than I have when he's been the one home.

    19. LOL, nope.
Turning 50 really helps! Helps clarify just what you will and will not put up with - without fear! Yay, 50!
My friends know, and appreciate them. Dolls are mainly in my home office.
Repair guys - They can deal with it, I am not here to impress them or care what their thoughts are. They are hired to do a service, and that's it.
Did have fun with a couple of guys that were here to do the new Bell FIBE connections. They were trying to pull out one of the cases with my Tonners, to put the cable behind the case and run it over the baseboard / door jam to the other end of the house. NOT happening - made them get their asses up the ladder and run the cable on the outside the house (No taking a short cut / lazy way here for a service I was paying for!).
And also told them that they were NOT to touch them - no grubby, inexperienced hands ruining my gals ...!
