1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Do you love all your dolls equally?

May 23, 2021

    1. I definitely have favorites. And that’s totally ok! They’re not people, so their feelings can’t be hurt by it.

    2. Seeing my Bobobie Isabella just makes me smile more than the others. I only have four dolls at the moment and while I want to spoil them all, my Bronah will always get attention. I think part of the reason is that she was my first doll and the first one I did a faceup for. She's covered in freckles and in my opinion it looks fantastic. I look at her and think, "I did this all on my own" and it makes me happy and proud. So yeah, I definitely have a favorite :3nodding:

    3. I prefere some over others, cause they are more active, look better on pictures or I can take them in plane.
      But love them all equally

    4. Nope!

I get on better with my project dolls—something about “creating” them myself appeals to me a lot, even if they’re imperfect to say the least.

I also have a huuuuge bias toward Aura and Shrike—Aura was a symbol of me restarting a big part of my life, and giving myself freedom to become, and I’ve had Shrike as a character for 15ish years. She’s important to me in ways other characters won’t be, and that’s okay. Vidania is a project girl, and I used her to process being diagnosed bipolar, so she’s way up there.

I don’t believe in moralizing about dolls either. They’re inanimate objects that I get attached to, but they’re not going to care if one sits in the basement for a month. It’s not alive, and if I mistreated one of my pets because I didn’t love it as much that would be reprehensible, but a doll isn’t a pet. I have a lot of feelings about shrike. She’s special to me, but if I left her unstrung for a month, I wouldn’t feel bad when I restrung her, just excited to have her back.

    5. I think I love my dolls unequally, but more in the sense of I love different parts of them better than I might on another one. Zola Lee was my first and she's by far my favorite sculpt, but she doesn't hold poses very well no matter how tight I string her, so she loses points there. Wednesday is my only SD sized doll at the moment and I love her body and how heavy she is, but I really don't vibe with her sculpt like I thought I would. Kirby has a really good sculpt and holds basic poses very well, but he's limited in how much he can do because I cheaped out and bought a body that didn't have double jointed elbows (which is a must for me anymore). Gaia has a very good sculpt as well, but I'm not a super big fan of her leg situation and the clicky joints that iplehouse does.
So yes I love them unequally but only because I have different parts on each of them that I love more than another. Hope that makes sense.

    6. My favorite doll is my favorite doll because she is my main character. She was also my first BJD, so that might also have something to do with it. I don't think there is anything wrong with having a favorite. I love all of my dolls, but Shynobi is just more special to me. Also, if you are not feeling a connection with a doll anymore, it might be time to sell. Changing wigs, faceups, eyes, wardrobe, name/ character, etc. can help you understand if you truly do not want to keep the doll anymore. If you make all of the changes you want, and you still aren't happy, that, in my opinion, is an indicator to sell.

    7. Nope! I love them all but not equally. As long as I love them, I keep them, and I do not feel guilty for having favorites among them.

    8. NOPE! Most of my early dolls, while kept for sentimental value, are not as loved as my other dolls. I don't dress them as much, take photos as much, have them sit out with me as often, or generally feel that fondness for them that I do my other dolls.

    9. I love all of my dolls for sure, but I have favorites! Same with my other collections. It's totally normal and nothing to feel bad about.

    10. I love all my dolls but there are some that I'm more attached to for varying reasons. My Doll Love Kaja "Vish" is one I've become extremely attached to over the last few months. He was almost my first doll but the stars never aligned for that so instead I think he ended up becoming my fourth or fifth on topic doll, and though I loved him even before I got him and he was a sometimes travel buddy I was never as attached to him as I am now. I love my little cheshire "Valentine" and can't help but smile every time I see him. My first doll "Leif" will always be special to me, as will my dollzone Scorpio "Aggi" (points to avatar) and she was my first doll that I did a face up and body blushing on and even though my skills have improved I don't know that I could ever redo her as I love her too much just the way she is. I think those four and my Pukifee ante "Toria" are my most loved on topic bjds but I love all of them dearly and can't imagine giving any of them up.

    11. Not at all! There are actually only two at the moment that I'd say that I love (though I have 1-2 more incoming soon that I think will join them), out of the 6 resin BJDs I have. Those two are my clear favorites. One is my very first one, who I've had for 13 years, and the other I've also had for 13 years and is the only other doll I've kept from that period of my life. They're mostly shelf babies right now & sit in the middle, presiding over the other dolls, but I do have ideas for them soon! The others I like a lot, but a couple might be sold soon if I can't rework them in a way that makes me love them again.

    12. Short answer: no.

Long answer: I think it's natural to have favourites. When I've collected things in the past that have something of a 'character' (Beanie Babies, Nendoroids, plushies, etc.), I have had my clear favourites. It's the same with dolls. There's one vying for the role of 'key player', and he's not even here yet! And, at one time, the boy in my profile image was my no.1. Now, it's a vinyl boy that's off-topic here, so I don't use him for extra measure. But I don't feel much guilt for not loving the others equally. I've had most of them away in boxes, in the old advised 'do I sell' test, and I don't miss them. I take my vinyl boy off his usual 'perch', and - even if he's sitting with me as he is currently - that empty space he occupies when not receiving attention irks me.

    13. I'm glad I'm not alone in this! I'm still very new to the hobby and one of my first dolls is a second-hand Only-Doll - the span of a couple of months I've learned so much and discovered so many companies and I realize now that I'm more interested in the anthro and unusual or non-human body/face sculpts. I still love my hooman girl lol but I do feel the reality of that love slipping and wonder if I am comfortable enough to change her look and face completely or accept I may let her go T-T ... I wonder what awaits in the future for BJD obsession lol. Don't feel too bad it seems like you're definitley not alone!

    14. Yes. I love all my dolls, but I have times when I feel more interested in one character or some sculpt inspires me and I pay more attention to one doll over others. Then it might change again. Also, I have a character I really like and when I get a perfect sculpt for him it will be definitely one of my favorites. Not necessarily because of the doll itself, but because of the character.

    15. I love both of mines the same, I do not favor one over the other. I noticed one of them had more clothes than the other so I went and got them a few jackets, pants, etc. I don't think I could put one before the other though. I feel like whenever I get a girl, I might favor her more, but only time will tell.

    16. I only have 5 dolls but I love them all equally. They all have different personalities attached to them so I love them all because they are all very unique :kitty2

    17. I do have favorites.:sweat My first one has a lot of sentimental value to it even though it was the common and "cheaper" one out of the whole collection. The chibi version I'm also particularly attached to as it is the easier one to bring out and about for adventures, especially now that I have physical limitations due to a car accident. I've been really enjoying my DearSD sized ones, partly for the reason of my physical limitations but also because I think they trigger some nostalgic part of me. My husband definitely has his favorites too. It's the whole, "Which one do you take if the house was burning down?" Hahaha.

There are times when getting new outfits, wigs, schools, and other accessories for them revitalizes the joy, but I think it just depends on the person, whatever their current tastes are, whatever else is going on in their lives, and if there is lasting attachment or not.
