Do you only buy dolls that would fit into your doll-family?

Jun 10, 2010

    1. I'm still awaiting my first to arrive, but my wishlist is composed of dolls that all fit together. When it comes to the Callum children they all seem to have the same chin. And the twins (Honey delf Cookie and Honey delf Lolly) have the same nose. Mainly they are all from Luts, but there is a Narsha, Iplehouse, and Lati thrown in.
In the Davis family it is mainly the Angel of Dream Super Mo Lan that I am concerned about not fitting in; she has big eyes and big lips, and a big head, but a slender body. But that is kind of what I wanted in her. She is supposed to have a sort of hollywood-too-skiny look.

If there is a doll I really love I find a way to make them fit into the family. Like my Island Cookie, or a Zoall, and especially the anthro creatures. The Callum`s foster a multitude of children, so if a sculpt doesnt have the right chin they still make the cut. And the anthro's are all part of my Island Cookie (Rory)'s imagination.
I`m excited to see how they all look together once they are all a part of my collection.

    2. I can't say that I buy dolls that fit my doll family. Only a half of them are those whom I wanted. Othey guys wanted to come to me themselves, it was their decision Oo yep, i've got weird dolls. Anyway, it is nevermind if this was my decision or their decision, they all are my doll family )

    3. Ves-chan understands how I got so many dolls :) They invite their relatives!

    4. Being a newbie I tend to stick with the same "family".
This last doll by CREAM SODA ( Resin soul Ju) is totally out of my
family group. I love her. She's tiny/skinny/fragile compared
to the others,it helps me to get used to handling other type of dolls.;)

    5. I don't have characters already made up for my dolls to fit into so my purchases are based on what I like or think I'd want in a character. (I do role play with my crew) So far, that hasn't really worked out too well as far as "family" goes since my Asian looking boy is the tallest -too tall for a good group fit- while my other dolls have their own worlds where they live in that doesn't really collide with any other in the crew. ..Especially a giant hooved guy (Soom Chalco) his best friend's going to be my Luka the Pan and maybe a tree. Sigh. But they all get along well enough when pulled from their own dimensions/timelines to be physically next to each other. XD

    6. I have never bought a second doll (because my first just arrived yesterday lol) but i think that if I did, I would get one that complimented her. Then you could take pictures of the newest addition alone, or with your first doll/rest of doll family.

However, its perfectly fine if you choose one that doesn't fit in with the family, I suppose! ^-^

    7. I don't choose dolls that fit in with my other dolls, I choose dolls that I like, and I don't really take into consideration if they will fit in with the others or not. if two dolls don't look so great next to each-other, oh well, I just won't photograph them together regularly. So what? ^_^

    8. Not really. For one, I don't have a set 'doll family', and secondly, if I see a sculpt I really love and must have (after pondering for weeks, heehee), I work to get it :)

    9. I will be doing this, hence the fact I try to look at companies' molds that I feel will compliment each other. Heck, I may decide after acquiring a few more dolls that I only want an iplehouse mold or something. But, I feel that if the doll is part of a different family, it doesn't matter. Such as- I want the lover doll to my iplehouse Mars to be an iplehouse Arvid. However, I have a plan for another could to be DOD dolls. So it just depends on how many dolls are 'in a family' to me.

But hey, I've seen some dolls from different companies photographing beautifully together. I guess that while I'm going to take the 'fitting in' into consideration, it won't be a deciding factor.

    10. Yes! I totally do!
Right now I am only interested in BJD Anthro pigs. (Don't ask me why . . . I don't know myself!) It's so cute to see them sitting side by side.
So I guess I am a "niche dolly buyer" because I don't buy human dolls. Maybe in the future if there is one that I fall in love with.

    11. I do have dolls from the same company, but they are different sizes. Also, I am pretty new to BJD in general so my feelings may change later. That said, I can see both sides of wanting dolls that compliment each other in photos and look good together, but right now I just buy the dolls I like. If I decide to get someone larger or smaller I would be choosing on my love of the sculpt, rather than "he's cute but would make a terrible brother to X so I won't get him." I don't really make elaborate stories or anything for my dolls though, maybe that will change as I add to my troupe. Like someone else said, if they look odd photographed together, well then I can photograph them on their own. :)

    12. All my dolls are based on existing characters from the story I've been writing. This makes it really difficult, because I end up having an already set image in my mind of how they should all look and even how tall they are in relation to each other. Let me tell you, the latter especially complicates things when looking for dolls, especially since my first doll was a 50cm doll and is meant to be the tallest character in the story! And my shortest characters are now two 43cm dolls. It actually kind of works so far, though. I've got the two 43 cm, and the next doll I'm planning, which should be somewhere between the shortest and the tallest, will probably be about 46...I'm in the process of buying a secondhand Dollzone Megi head for him, which I'll probably pair with an Angel of Dream 1/4 boy body eventually (this is going to be my first time mixing and matching like that, and I'm actually pretty excited about it because I think it's going to work great!).

As far as companies go, so far I've got a Bobobie and two Ringdolls, and like I said, I'm planning the Dollzone/AoD hybrid. I really like having sculpts from different companies. For one thing, it gives me a reason to hang out in all sorts of different company related threads and I get to experience ordering from different places! I also like a little variety in their body types and skin colors. Though all my dolls are some sort of NS, I actually really like for them to be slightly differnent color resins, because I think that's more realistic. After all, people don't all have the exact same skin color, even people of the same ethnicities ^_^;; Of course, I'm hoping my Megi head will match the body I get for him as closely as possible...

    13. Currently, yes!!
Since I'm new in this hobbies, I'm still trying to find the "best " way to go,
I want my dolls geting close and build great relationship with each other,
they are sisters and brothers in my wishes,
because if the dolls were too different, it would be harder to create a world for them in which they could coexist.
That will link to a treeible financial issue I believe~~XDD

    14. Yes, because I want as few dolls as possible, so this is another reason why NOT to get a doll.

    15. Since all of my crew are avatars for my own literary characters from the novel and short stories I'm writing, they all live in the same "universe" and need to be in the same size/scale. I also prefer mature, realistic sculpts, so my dolls also need to reflect this and be in stylistic harmony with each other. So...yes, I only purchase dolls that will fit into my existing group.
It does save me money in the long run, as I don't therefore do impulse buys in other sizes/styles that wouldn't work with my crew. :)

    16. Yeah, since the family began I end up filling it with members, and significant others.
Still one to go in that respect =)

    17. I think that I will only buy dolls based upon how I feel about them personally, not how they will go with my other dolls. I see it like this: the dolls are my daughters and they will all "go" together as long as I chose them. It's not like real people who have babies get to pick what it looks like when it's born, and they get to decide whether or not it goes with the family. It's their child, so it automatically goes. The same goes for dolls: it's my choice, so it automatically goes. :) Maybe I think of the dolls too closely to real people, but that's just the way I feel about it.

    18. I don´t really think about my doll "family" when choosing a doll. And like in a real family, everyone is very different. I have one pair of sisters, but otherwise the dolls don´t have anything to do with each other. I like my dolls looking very different and havinf very different personalities. I think all dolls go together with all dolls :D I don´t think I would ever fall in love with a doll if I didn´t feel that it goes well with me, and my other dolls.

    19. I can already tell that my collection is going to be schizophrenic at best. There is just no way to coherently fit all the characters I have in mind into one family/story/whatever. And... I'm okay with that. They'll be an interesting bunch, that's for sure.

    20. Kinda... My first doll is kind of Scene Kid-ish and she is meant to be a teenager (all of my dolls are/She is MSD btw) So for my next I am getting an MSD Boy that could be her boyfriend. I want him to be slightly taller but them both be the same style and age. I have them in that style because that is my style irl. So I guess I acually get them to match me more than anything else, because I buy them things I would wear and that are in my style.
But I am planning on getting my girl a sister. She is going to be the other side of me, so not my gothy Scene Kid side, she is gonna be my sweet Lolita sort of side :) Like in a family, everyone is different, sure we may take some traits from the people we grow up with, but at the end of the day, we are all individual and have our own taste and personality! :)
