Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I definately prefer more mature and closer to real human looks BJDs. And when I first saw Aaron of Iplehouse, I could not stop googling for his information. Aaron's reality human look (it was then, the more human looks are more common these day!) really hit me hard. I decided to have my feet on this kind of size BJDs. Then I acquired a Super Gem Spinel of Soom doll. I have LUO of Iplehousee and I am really tempted to have their girls as well. However, the down side of it is...(maybe owing my age) they are difficult to handle as they are too heavy and it hurts my back every time I play with them!

Otherwise, I really enjoy how beautiful their body like and facial feature are!!!:x

    2. I much prefer realistic dolls because I think the anime ones are really creepy, especially the Dollfie Dreams ones. I mean, when I first saw them, I kind of liked them because I saw them kind of far away but closer up, their eyes are just...really big. And hardly a nose. lol But this is all just a personal preference. I don't even like other Volks dolls too much because their eyes are still too big for my liking and I love Souldoll and Iplehouse dolls.

    3. I think I like a somewhat fusion of both sides. Too realistic of a doll can give me creeps:o 'shudders'
But I guess it depends on the sculpt lol

    4. real-life human styled BJDs

    5. I know I've posted in this thread before, but I think it was when I was first getting into the hobby and my tastes have changed drastically, so!

I don't like the anime style Dollfie Dreams. I'll just say that straight and hope nobody's offended, I think they're really weird looking ._. however, I rarely see truly "realistic" sculpts in the age range I'm interested in, so I can't really say how I feel about them. I always find myself very drawn to more "stylized realism" sort of sculpts that don't qualify as realistic but I wouldn't call anime either. I watch a lot of anime, and I see a lot of people, and so I think I find myself drawn towards dolls that don't look like things I see often.

The same goes for bodies, I am a HUGE fan of stylized, artsy sort of bodies that don't reflect how the human body really looks very well, but also don't really follow the anime sort of look for bodies. I don't want stylized bodies on all my dolls, because some of them just don't work for the character, but I do adore how they look.

    6. I agree! I get terrible uncanny valley symptom!
I love dolls that have anime looks and dolls that have human looks, it all depends on the sculpt itself and the individual features.

    7. I actually don't think Luts is as blatantly anime as Volks, at least to my eye, but I guess that's where I draw the line. The eyes need to look like actual eyes for me to really get attached to the doll. Volks dolls don't appeal to me at all, but I like Luts's Regen, and I'd use him for an adult Sasha if I could get the head separately. But then, I choose dolls to fit characters, rather than their general style.

    8. I personally like the more realistic dolls. So I would like more Iplehouse dolls (I still waiting for my I T.T)
I want to make an anime character, but my wish is make him... (yes, he's a man *¬*) ...in a realistic version ^^

    9. I prefer the most realistic bjd :)
not anime , it's just not my style

    10. I prefer semi-real.
I can imagine lifelike might be quite "scary"
but too anime (with distinct anime eyes and small nose) does not appeal to me.

As well as body proportion which the same or closely resemble actual human :)

    11. I do admire the realistic sculpts for their artistry but I think I would find it too creepy to own in real life. I prefer a more stylized/realistic look with big head, big eyes, etc. To me that is the ideal "doll" look.

    12. I really dislike the anime look for dolls. At least personally. I've seen some done and the way their owners have done them...they're lovely, but it's just not something I could ever own. I just much prefer real proportions (in face structure/body since I can't say much for "real proportions" when all my dolls so far are elves lol).

    13. I have very umm... two sided opinion about this. I like realistic look maybe more. I do not like overly big eyes which are overly sparkly. That might be because I'm more into shounen manga than shoujo manga. In other hand I have pretty anime-kind boys... And I dont say other dolls which has big big eyes and small small lips were worse.
      I dont know...
Me myself am more like into the more natural/realisric look.

    14. I always prefer more real-life human, but my first BJD was Sephiroth and for the second purchase I also plan charachter from anime

    15. Prefer the more human styled dolls :< I like anime and all but I've just never been attracted to the more uhm "outlandish" sculpts. I love iplehouse dolls and DoD but I do like luts and fairyland too, just not all of their dolls. Not to say that they aren't just as nice their just not my type.
All of my characters (that my dolls are based on) started as a little manga sketch but I never really saw them that way so I make them into the closest thing to humans I can: realistic resin babies.

    16. I prefer dolls with that-kind-of-anime-style rather that 'realistic' dolls. Sometimes I'm a little bit afraid of the last ones..

    17. I prefer the more realistic-human looking bjd's. I don't care for the anime at all. But as an artist myself I appreciate all forms of art but I lean towards realistic paintings and not the abstract ones. I would rather do a portrait sketch rather than a characature. To each there own.

    18. I lean more toward realistic. Iplehouse owns my heart. It's something about the sculpts that captivates me. I do like anime and manga, big eyes and small noses are lovely and all, but I just find 'realistic' features more attractive on BJDs. Dollfie Dream girls scare me... qAq Now thoseare gonna kill me in my sleep.

    19. Being an anime fan, naturally I would prefer the anime style BJDs, but a friend of mine has a real life style BJD. I really don't mind realism styles, some of them are even neat too, and I like her doll. As for choices though, I were to choose, I will always pick the anime style.

    20. I prefer a little stylized, i can look at and appreciate the more realistic sculpts but probably won't own any any time soon. However Dollfie Dreams and other dolls with really animu eyes creep me out a bit. ; ^;
