Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. It's really hard to tell in my case. My dolls are based on anime-like characters, but due to the sculpt they look rather realistic. I'm in the middle, maybe?

    2. When I started in the hobby I used to like only anime-like characters but, with the time, I'm starting to appreciate more realistic facemolds also. I still prefer anime-like ones but I am not so closed to get a realistic one.

    3. I only like humanstyled BJD's.

    4. I am different. I like both. I always use anime eyes. I always use beautiful elegant dresses and wigs that are very human.

    5. anime, i think that dolls that are too realistic are ugly

    6. I know I answered this before but, I've changed my answer a bit... I've come to really like the anime styled dolls. I still like the realistic ones the best, but some of the anime ones are just so adorable!!! Especially when you have the anime eye style!! ♥

    7. I don't like all-too-real dolls but the really extreme big-eyed J-style I don't like either. It's somewhere in the middle. :3

    8. A nice mix is the key for me.
      Well, personally I like the realistic ones a bit more, thought all of my doll-characters are going to be in their teens or starting twenties, so...
      Generally I have found I do not like those that look too much like the classic dolls. It's just not mine.

      I don't mind going for interesting eye or hair colors - like those not 'natural' to humans, so I guess that would put me back towards the anime-kind :3

      Generally I don't pay attention if it's looking realistic or anime-styled. I just look through dolls and it either 'clicks' or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it doesn't end up on my 'to be considered list' (which is actually surprisingly short).

    9. When it comes to the face I prefer those with a more anime-styled face. Too realistic faces don't appeal to me in any way. Maybe it's because they remind me too much of the old dolls my mom and grandma used to have. But I do like animefaces with hints of realistic propositions and vice-versa.

      When it comes to style such as eye-colour, hair-colour, clothes I don't mind either way! I love colours apart from natural colour schemes, but also mixing them can give a nice look. Overall if the complete look goes well together I don't care if it's anime or realistic, both can captivate me.

    10. I agree with there needing to be males for our Dollfie Dream girls ;) And for my answer it would definitely be anime-styled being that my first doll will be a Dollfie Dream and I've always been in love with them. I wouldn't mind a more realistic face so long as it appealed to me. In-between the two styles would be great too so long as there was a good balance between the two styles in one :D

    11. I think I'm more into the Anime style sculpts. Since my friend has said the one I like is quite Anime like. ^^; Though some realistic dolls can be nice, assuming I am knowing what I am talking about. I think if I saw a good one though I would buy it, considering if it looks good or not. ^^;

    12. While the anime-styled dolls are cute,
      I found that a lot of the owners tend to have certain 'hobbies.'
      I don't own one because I'm scared they will talk to me. ; o ;

      I just like a doll, if I like a doll.
      If I like how they look-so be it!
      c:

    13. The more realistic-looking, the better. However, it's gotta be handsome. Not necessarily your usual kind of "handsome" - take my Ark, for example. I find him really handsome while others might think he looks weird or creepy or ugly. Whereas Soom dolls definitely would define as handsome - but somehow, I just don't like the style.

    14. This is a hard question i have to say. I think i like more like combination of nonrealistic and realistic faces. But maybe i have to say i like littlebit more like animetic faces if they are not too much comiclike. I don't like that if doll has a really big eyes like Dollfie Dream dolls have ( But still.. I like dollfie dream dolls too.. IT'S so hard to say! ). They are too big for me, As a BJD .

    15. I prefer more realistic dolls. There originally weren't many of these available on the market, but in the past few years there has been a trend with many companies towards realism, and away from the highly stylized/anime-esque sculpts. Because of this, I've been replacing many of my oldest dolls with newer ones that are more realistic, and thus, are closer in appearance to how I imagine the characters they represent. However, I'm still very attached to the older dolls, so I've simply "retired" them rather than selling them off. They now have their own doll cabinet in the library, separate from the rest of my collection.

    16. Using the examples given at the start of this thread, I really like both. :) I think I lean toward the more "anime" styled dolls, but Iplehouse has some stunning molds too~ As does Soom! I love the Iplehouse mature ladies, since their bodies are so curvy and beautiful. I will say, however, I don't like the super stylized dolls at all. When the dolls literally have huge anime eyes and tiny noses... Eep! I'm definitely not a fan of that kind of mold. "3-D" anime faces have always looked very strange to me.

    17. It's not the level of stylization or realism that makes me like a doll. It's the overall effect of their features. I think the Iplehouse dolls are absolutely gorgeous, and I also like Dollfie Dreams for how cutely anime they are. Still, all of my own BJDs are somewhere in between - realistic but with strong elements of stylization in their facial features.

    18. I prefer more realistic dolls.
      but I do like both types~

      however i dont like, like SUPER anime styled tho. (Pointy chin, pointy nose, tiny mouth, weird eyes. -.-)
      As that reminds me of the time i was in highschool,
      and id like to think that ive grown out of the childish looks.

    19. I love both! My first was more anime styled but I am so in love with the more natural human looking ones as well. If I am going to use the doll as a reference for drawing, I do prefer it to have a bit more of a natural body, but the face can be as anime as it wants to be. It just has to be beautiful to my eye in the long run.

    20. I like one extreme or the other for the most part. I like either really anime stuff, like Dollfe Dreams, or very realistic stuff like Iplehouse. My E-An is one of the least realistic dolls I've ever liked, and she still has relatively natural features and faceup.
