Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I guess that I am somewhere in the middle. Some of the realistic sculpts are utterly amazing and beautiful, but, because I tend to be attracted more to a sweet little girl type face, seem to go for the larger eyed dolls with smaller pouty lips. Of all the doll companies who put out dolls, Bambicrony's dolls define all that I love in a face. They are somewhat idealized, but they have a very realistic soulful expression, and with more realistic body proportions/head size.

    2. For me, both anime--unrealistic--sculpts and realistic ones are all very tasty. However, I guess, I'm not so fond of the sculpts that have realistic "head shapes," such as the ones that have shadows on their faces due to the cheekbone or jaw structure. ...Does anyone know what I'm talking about? <:0 "Too manly" facial structures, I guess I'd call them.

However, I'm a huge sucker for realistic bodies. The previous skinny, model-shape bodies are just so unappealing for me. It's hard to pull the "normal" human body proportion off, I understand, but those unrealistically skinny arms and legs without much curves throw me off. I love IH's larger girl bodies, because they are well-proportioned compared to other companies' girl bodies, and are also so "meaty." Mmmm. I'm very glad BJD companies are moving on to the realistic sculpts, at least for the bodies. I'd love to keep seeing more anime head sculpts come out. XD

    3. Both. For me I'm more of a sculpt by sculpt person, some overly realistic sculpts I do not like at all. Some I do. And there are some anime like faces that bother me as well- though I do tend to lean more towards the Dollfie Dream side of things. I adore them.

    4. I prefer a more realistic look for my bjd's. I don't really like the anime look on dolls, unless I had wanted a anime looking doll for an character, like a Sailor Moon doll. I think I prefer stylized over everything, a realistic looking body, but with an exaggerated face and proportions. Like my Doll Chateau Bella! <3 She is just perfect. :3

    5. I like both.
There are some beautiful 'anime' style BJDS and there are some beautiful 'realistic' BJDS.
But my preference leans more towards 'anime' style, so I would want a BJD that has the right balance between real and anime.

    6. Oh man oh man. Where do I start?

I guess I'm some sort of weird hybrid here. I like realistic looking dolls, but with a hint of anime features. For example, I just fell hard for Lut's senior delf Mia because she seems like a nice balance between anime (big eyes) and real (ducky pouty lips).

    7. STYLIZED REALISM FOR THE WIN! (Favored companies: Soom, migidoll, Supia, Dollshe, Iplehouse, unoa, SOME Volks, Elfdoll, etc)

    8. I love the anime style so Dollfie Dream and Obitsu top my list. I also like alot of the reallistic BJD's, and see an IpleHouse E.I.D or Luts Lishe in my future.

    9. I'd say I like the more realistic ones, but I've got a MNF Shiwoo and another MNF on the way.. I guess they're the exception though, most others on my wishlist are more realistic.

    10. When I think of Anime-styled I think about Volks Dollfies. I know that they are how people like Danny Choo introduce BJDs to the world, but I feel like they are just TOO much like anime characters! (And thats coming from a president of a college anime club!) I like Fairyland, Luts, and BBB/RS.

    11. I lean towards more stylized sculpts, but I do admire the more realistic sculpts as well. I just don't feel the urge to add them to my doll family.

    12. I like the more anime-styled ones (getting a Luts) but I find that, despite my love for anime, the dolls that are DESIGNED to look like actual anime characters... do NOT appeal to me at all.... So I guess I like that middle ground...

    13. I guess I'd say I prefer a semi-stylized doll. I don't want them too anime or too realistic, but I want them to be detailed. I guess that's why I love Fairyland! Those dolls are just too fun to handle, so beautifully put together.
I find that I really do love looking at people's super-realistic dolls, I think when they're done well they're breath-takingly beautiful, but I just don't know what I'd do with one! I love them but can't imagine actually owning a doll like that, is that weird?

    14. Definitely realistic dolls. I'm planning on 'upgrading' some of my current dolls to more realistic sculpts because of how my tastes have changed. "Anime"-styled dolls are still cute, I just don't really want to own one.

    15. I'm mostly interested in owning fantasy-styled dolls. Not necessarily with the "anime aesthetic," as I'm not an anime fan, but more the mystical creature type of doll than the purely realistic type.

I enjoy looking at other people's photos of dolls of all types, though. I enjoy the visual variety of a diverse forum. :)

    16. Depends on what u mean by anime dolls. I mean I prefer more androgynous dolls, not as what some people would call realistic sculpts but I like more fantasy dolls so if that means anime dolls then yes. I prefer that type. Its more about sculpts that draw my eye I don't really care what kind of asethic they have.

    17. Personally I never really thought of Luts, B&G, and the other companies you mentioned as being anime-like, because they're very realistic to me... Its just that many of them look more youthful, in my opinion. When I saw the question I thought you would ask about Dollfie Dreams. ^^;;

To answer the question, I think I often like something in the middle, but between those too, I'd go with the more "anime-like". Chiseled manly men in particular just don't appeal to me, nor do the Iplehouse ladies (for example) who look very realistic to me. They're beautiful, but I'd rather own a more "teen-looking" doll... Maybe its because of my young age.

    18. I ... really don't have a preference. I've found more realistic ones I like, and more stylized ones that I like. It really just depends on the mold. I'm not a big fan of those Volks dolls that really do look like characters from an anime though. :sweat

    19. human!!!! all the way

    20. DDs are what got me into the hobby, saw one at a con, and weeaboo me fell in love. However, when I started browsing more realistic dolls all over the place I started realizing that I like the more realistic ones better, because most of the DDs are similar looking. I own a DD head now and am saving for her body, just because I just want to have one. I think I'm only going to get one, I really prefer realistic resin dolls.
