Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I prefer my doll to be a bit anime-ish (not because I like anime or anything), because I'm not too fond of realistic dolls. ;;
      I only like looking at them but not brave enough to own one.

    2. I like semi realism.
      Maybe do to some dA artist influence and my choice of RPG game that I prefer my doll/drawing resemble something in between anime and realism.
      I, personally, would Never Want a Doll who look exactly like this or that person! Nor do I want the anime volk dolls.
      (No offense to those who like it. This is just My preference! ^^)

    3. I love anime styled but have recently been on a Yo-SD kick which is super strange. For me personally it is big eyes FTW!

    4. At first I only really liked the anime style BJDs, I thought the more human ones reminded me too much of porcelain dolls. I thought I'd only ever want Dollfie Dream dolls because of their extremely anime-looking features. However, after seeing realistic resin dolls at conventions and online more, I've realized that I may prefer the more realistic dolls now. Or, at the very least, I prefer a slightly more realistic look. I still love anime-looking dolls, but I probably wouldn't buy another one like that. I'm just so drawn to how beautiful the more realistic resin dolls can be. I suppose I like a more in-between style.
      I'm not a fan of dolls that look too real. I've seen ones made to look like actual people and I just can't bring myself to want one like that. Maybe I'm indecisive? I don't know. So, somewhere in between. Not too real, but not too anime-looking.

    5. i like and i'm also own one...my one is pipos cheshire fray ver,i like SOOM dolls, most of them are so cute!!

    6. I love the realistic dolls. Whenever I look at them, it takes my breath away because they are so elegant and beautiful. I also like the anime-styled BJDs though, so I think they have their strengths. Anime bjd's are cute, and realistic ones are beautiful.

    7. I love the realistic dolls but maybe sometimes I would like to have anime style bjd :)

    8. I prefer human...and SD size)

    9. I'm caught in the middle. I like dolls that look a bit realistic with some exaggerated features to make them stand out. But that might be because of my drawing style....

    10. My friend told me that these dolls look like chararacters from some RPG and I agree!
      I like my dolls to look like a game character. I feel like a lot of Cerberus Project sculpted dolls have that look.
      I like dolls that are a mix of both realistic and anime. I like for them to have a sculpted nose rather than a teenie point and I love lips! But if I see a doll I like I don't really think about it. Ive fallen for both super realistic and anime type dolls. ^.^

    11. Starting out in the hobby, I really liked large eyed anime-ish look. Now three years of looking through company sculpts and gallery pages later, I find myself drawn much more to the side of realism. Smaller eyes and detailed noses especially are what really attract me to a sculpt (-cough-Hyperon >.>), because what intrigues me about BJD's at this point is how realistic they can look to the point where from a DA thumbnail you might think it was a photograph of a human. So while I like dolls to be somewhat stylized, I'm also really attracted to the sculpts that have a realistic, human-like aspect to them. Semi-realism, as mentioned in an earlier post.

    12. Something inbetween, more like. I love super realistic dolls, but they wouldn't look right with the dolls I have now. And very anime styled dolls... Well, some feel really "generic anime" in their look, and I'm just not a fan of those. ^^;

      Big, hug, dinner plate eyes aren't my thing.

    13. Both. But it's sort of interesting in that for guys, I prefer more realistic sculpts. I don't have any guy dolls yet, but if I get one, I want to go for one of the Iplehouse ones. Just really love their realism for the guy faces. For girls, I prefer something more anime style. I have no idea why.

    14. I guess I like somewhere in the middle. The most realism I can take is Soom, though I like iplehouse in person, but their promo pics don't do anything for me so I could never get one, but Luts is the one I look at from afar and tell myself SOMEDAY (I want to shell out a few consistent characters, but then LOOK OUT LUTS I'M COMING FOR YOU)

      I don't mind the volks O.O faces as we are calling them, Volks is a darn good company, but I would want those faces on a tiny, not on an SD. I think the more stylized tinies are the cutest things (generally anything that has 14 or 16 mm eyes will fall into my "like" category)

      I think part of the reason I don't want O.O on an SD is because it is like sitting an adult with a child face on the shelf which is strange to me, but I mean, every doll sort of has a bit of that stylization ANYWAY, it is just all about how much. Even in my soom dolls, my beryl is loads more stylized than my amber.

    15. I came through the bjd door after falling in love with the childlike LTF type sculpts. After looking around for a bit, I'm falling hard for the realistic Iplehouse style.

      Although, I also like pictures of the really "out there" and highly personalized fantasy sculpts, and if I had unlimited funds (hardy har) I might want one. Given my actual limitations though, I'll enjoy those through members' pictures.

    16. I am a total otaku. I have watched a LOT of anime. Believe me there many styles, & almost ALL BJDs fit some style of anime. I in fact bought IH Bichun because he looked like the embodiment of Abari Renji from Bleach, yet he's a very realistic sculpt.
      I do not like the more stylized dolls (or the more stylized distorted anime art, although for a good story I will put up w/it). I DID choose all my dolls to fit one or more anime characters - my doll characters are cosplayers :D
      So I find this question a bit misleading. I think more stylized/more realistic is the actual distinction that should be made here.
      That being said, I may end up getting one DD at some point. Stylized or not, they are just soooo cute!

    17. I love both and collect both kind of dolls. But I prefer something in between :D

    18. I haven't really seen any super-realistic bjds. They're all stylized one way or another. But between super realistic and super anime looking, my preferences change regarding the character I have in mind. I want some realism for adult males, some cute for my younger boys. So yes, a nice middle between both styles is best for me. :)

    19. As for me I like more real style for BJD, but sometimes on something dolls anime style looks very beautiful and organic.

    20. both. i own 6 Dollfie Dreams as a testament to my love of 'anime style' dolls, but i usually find that ABJDs have a more unique, interesting appeal to them. case in point, i have no plans to extend my DD family unless some very specific character dolls are released... i am more interested in ABJDs at the moment. cute, anime-looking dolls are adorable, but they are also a lot less expressive and generic than many of the ABJDs i've seen.

      of course there are some ABJDs that draw a heavy influence from anime. in the end, it just comes down to whether you find the doll appealing or not, and as i like both styles, i judge dolls on their individual merits.
