Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I love realistic dolls. Ones that aren't realistic seem weird to me.

    2. I like a balance between the two - not entirely realistic but not all that cartoony, either.

    3. I'm somewhere in the middle spectrum. Definitely lean more towards semi-realistic that I do super anime-esque... I dunno, though. When people say anime looking, I think of Dollfie Dreams, or something like that, which just look kind of creepy and soulless to me... So, I'd rather my dolls have eyes that don't eat their faces, and noses that aren't microscopic.

    4. I prefer my dolls to be realistic, but with this unhuman touch. I love it when a doll has this ' haunting ' look going on. And I love it even more when you can't really tell what it is that makes this doll so different from the others.

Since my bjds represent my characters I've designed for my stories, I want them to look like my drawing style as much as possible.

Also, eyes are really important for me on a doll. If the eyes are the first thing I notice on a doll, because they're unique or whatever, that doll already gets a high score from me. And that's something you don't get with over-realistic dolls

    5. When i started this hobby I fall in love with elves especially with those big eyes but lately i am more into realistic sculpt like Nyx/Ordoll and dollshe.

    6. Some of my dolls are called with anime character name, so i prefer doll with a bit of anime style, a too realistic doll won't fit to me (exept one :3 )

    7. I personally like the uber realistic dolls. Soom is my current favorite :)

    8. I'm fairly lentient regarding the facial features and proportions of my BJDs (i.e. animetic eyes versus more proportionate ones). My first BJD was a Kid Delf Cherry, which personally, is quite animetic in appearance. However, I'm also incredibly partial to Unoa Lusis girls. And the Soom Yo-SD Monthly sculpts are adorable, and rather animetic (realistic looking Yo-SDs frighten me O.O). As long as the sculpt is the optimal physical embodiment of the character I've contrived, I don't really care about their facial features, as long as they're proportionately compatible with the rest of my gang.

    9. I like both, I have doll is Iphouse, and I also have some anime style dolls. Both styles are very attractive.

    10. I like tinies. And for them I find it to be easier if they are more "anime" style. The bigger a doll is the easier is it to make it look as real as possible in my eyes. I definitely prefer tiny anime dolls over huge human dolls due to the size. But I love looking at the pics of people who own the big ones :)

    11. So far, my dolls are all more or less 'anime style' and I love them that way. I am waiting for a more real-life sculpt and the reason I chose her is because she looks realistic xD I guess I love both types :)

    12. I honestly like aspects of both. Most of my dolls at the moment have slightly larger eyes in proportion to the rest of their faces, but they're not so huge as to look unrealistic, and my SD girl's eyes have very human-like proportions. For anime-style dolls, I like them if I'm trying to create a doll of an anime character- a good example is how I plan to get a 50cm Obitsu for my Sailor Saturn fan-doll. I fully intend on using the default head that comes with it as well, because that looks more like Sailor Saturn than any of the other vinyl heads I've seen. For most of my characters though, I prefer a more realistic aesthetic.

    13. I think I like the semi-realistic ones. BUT I'm getting an anime-ish face too, so I'll have to see :)

    14. I do tend to like sculpts that have round faces with large eyes so I would have to say the I enjoy anime style the most. I am just not that into the really realistic sculpts especially in the guys.

    15. Coming back to this thread, I like both! Sorta. My dream dolls are Iplehouse dolls (I love love love their realisticness) but I also want some dollfie dreams (and they are DEFINITELY anime style). So while I like both, I definitely won't ever mix their storylines since they won't look good in pictures together.

    16. I started on the more anime side and then started skewing to the more realistic side.

I like both for different reasons. But I am sort of into semi-realism. Dolls that look too anime, like Dollfie Dream, I don't like because I feel some drawing quirks don't translate into the 3rd dimension all that well.

    17. I do like both, but I like the more human dolls more. They both make for some interesting photo subjects though. :)

    18. I prefer realistic sculpts because it doesn't remind me so much of a typical 'doll'. I feel like I would be getting my money's worth opposed to as paying for a doll that looks more dolly-like than a more realistic sculpt. Just my personal opinion.

    19. I absolutly love large eyes, round and almond heads and soft features, that might be why I really love the classic volks girls. The round faces go well with the girly style I like too.

I tried realistic dolls I wasn't happy with small eyes and chiseled faces, I guess that look reminds me of fashion dolls.

    20. Most of mine, if not all, are anime style. I think the closest real-life ones are my Sooms.
