Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. i love anime, but when it comes to dolls specifically bjd's iam looking for something realistic. i don't think i'll ever own a dollfie dream, obitsu and such i don't care how fashionable they are. the more realistic the doll looks, the more i want it XD

    2. Seeing as I currently only own Dollfie Dreams, I obviously like that end of the spectrum. But beyond that, it depends on your definition of realistic. I'm attracted to certain DoD sculpts, and also some like Bobobie/RS Mei and Volks Rinon. I've seen Mei specifically sited earlier in this thread as a realistic sculpt, but I don't agree. She's certainly different than my DDs, but I wouldn't mistake her picture for a real person. The only ones I've seen that look realistic to me are Iplehouse and some from, I think it was Idealian.

    3. Personally, I find the ones with completely anime eyes to be kinda creepy, so I definitely don't like those. However, I generally like the bigger eyed sculpts of Fairyland and Luts. The realistic ones are nice, and I like Iplehouse, but I tend to gravitate towards the more "doll-like" ones because I really like that they are dolls. I think the really realistic ones are quite gorgeous, although I may never buy them.

    4. Firstly, I would like to say: to each his own. No one style of doll could make everyone happy.

For what it's worth I love the more realistic dolls.

I think the stylised ones are beautiful too (and in my opinion somewhat more accessible by which I mean hyper realistic dolls can seem a bit too much or even "creepy" for want of a better word to people who aren't used to BJDs).

My company of choice at the moment is Iple House and I love their BID, JID and new KID lines. The larger sculpts are even more realistic and perhaps just a tad too realistic for me, I enjoy a touch of the cutesy in even a very realistic doll.

    5. i do love anime allot , but when it comes to dolls ~ ]
i like her to be more realistic ? MY first doll is actually
from my main character taleen (an anime character)

so it's fun to mix things up and see

    6. More human like. It has endless possibilities with poses , accessories and scenes. Compared to an anime character that is..

    7. I perfer more human to the anime, but that doesn't mean I'll never own an aime type. Some are really cute and fun looking, but right now they wouldn't fit into my little BJD family.

    8. At the moment, I tend to prefer anime-styled dolls like Dollfie Dreams when searching for a girl. But I mostly like the realistic men such as the ones Iplehouse have to offer. Anime girls and realistic boys :D

    9. I much prefer the realistic sculpts to the anime like ones. The downside to this is that there aren't very many choices. xD I mean, realism is realism. Not to be picking on you or anything Jezrah but I don't think there are different definitions to realism when it comes to what people can look like in the real world. If you like anime and are attracted to the style of less realistic companies, it's called desensitization. But less realistic sculpts means there are less to tempt some of us! Not to say there aren't any anime like ones that I think are cute as there are many but I personally just don't like them *as* much. I feel like because they're so cutesy with their big eyes, small nose, and round, childlike faces, it's hard to get certain feelings across all the time, especially in pictures because they're so vague in features. It requires some projecting from the owner that the audience might not catch.

    10. I personally prefer the anime styled BJDS, Or somewhat in between the two. It sort of depens on the faceup and the bodytype. :)

    11. I'm more partial to realistic BJDS rather than anime style ones. I find anime style to be a bit generic, and that there's less room for originality, creative and variety. The eyes and the sort of "perfection" that they have are a bit off putting for me.

    12. I prefer the realistic ones because they look more identifiable/ original to me. The anime ones, though I have seen some amazing ones are a bit boring. I would probably only get one in the event that I wanted to make one look like a particular anime character.

    13. I much prefer realistic looking dolls. Especially dolls with realistic looking noses! (No, I don't why either. Lol.)

    14. I prefer somewhere in the middle I guess, I like big eyes but a mature-looking face :)

    15. I find that my personal style of dolls kind of resembles my drawing style. Not too cartoony, but not realism either. Some realistic dolls are kind of creepy to me because they look so real, yet they're not alive. So, Sort of in between. Luts dolls are my favorite :)

    16. I definitely prefer more realistic dolls over all. Still, I do like artistically stylized dolls as well; just not super anime-esque ones.

    17. I think it depends. I notice I get a little freaked out by more realistic dolls, but I think it's just the failed attempt at realism that some dolls have? Like, I notice it a lot in American dolls.

Goodreau for example- they're all fish-eyed and look like they don't have souls, in my opinion. (yeah I know dolls don't have souls anyway, but they LOOK it.) I can't say that I would like the all-the-way anime style, like Dollfie Dream either. I like a nice stylized doll, not exactly someone you'd see on the street, but not too real either, like my boys.

Iplehouse looks good to me, they can be real, but there's a style about them, too.

    18. Personally I enjoy everything from super-stylized to uber-realistic; I own both a MiniMee and an old Volks FCS. One of the things I love about this hobby is the sheer variety we're presented with! At one point I used to be worried about my dolls "fitting in" with an overall look, but I've since let go and purchase whatever sculpts I enjoy the most.

    19. Sandwich- That's a good point. I don't really care to match my dolls to each other, I have plans to get vastly different ones in the future, and a couple of them are nowhere near realistic. I'm just not sure it would qualify as anime so much as just stylized.

I love the variety in this hobby too, definitely, but I also know that there are certain types that I might enjoy looking at, but may not click with if I owned them.

    20. I'm definitely drawn to dolls which look more realistic. Iplehouse dolls are me favourite. I also really like some of the Dollshe sculpts that lean towards the realistic end of the spectrum.
