Do you only like 'anime' style BJDS or more real-life human styled BJDs?

Dec 12, 2010

    1. I just found out that I prefer anime style BJDs over realistic ones.

    2. I love both of them..but i think real-life human styled BJDs are not easy to dress up

    3. It's difficult to choose just one. For me, as long as I like the face, I don't mind whether it is a stylized face or realistic face. I love Crobidoll, Volks, Souldoll which are more stylized but I also like Soom and some of Iplehouse doll too. It depends on the character I have in mind. The more mature is the more realistic features. And the more anime-like gives younger look so I prefer both of them XD

    4. I enjoy looking at all types, but I am only drawn to owning the realistic-looking ones.

    5. I am more drawn to realistic BJDs, however I absolutely love my Migidoll Miho who looks a little more stylized when sitting next to my other dolls. So I guess it would just depend on the sculpt.

    6. I like real-life style bjds. I watch anime (Loveless, Haru, Tirant who fall in love). Guess, there i prefer real-life style, also )))

    7. I guess I'm more partial to the "realistic", or "semi-realistic". Mostly because even my current cosplay's based off a sculpts from IllusionSpirit (and maybe a soon-to-be one from Iplehouse).

I have two boys from Dollzone, one from HZdoll, one from IS..

I think the only really "stylized" one is one that's eventually on the way, a DoD Azera. Which, really, I already have plans for that are not cosplay-related.

    8. i have both and i love them all, i started with DD's because i love anime, but i treat them the same i often dress my resin girls in anime styled clothes and vice versa.

    9. I tend to be more drawn towards realistic rather than anime, probably because when it comes to the dolls I'm looking at, I'm looking for dolls that fit preplanned characters, rather than looking for dolls to build a character around. That and I find a lot more of the realistic dolls to be more appealing than a majority of the anime dolls as far as wanting to own them.

As for looking at, I love both equally.

    10. i don't like anime style bjd's, even though i looove anime :) but when it comes to dolls i prefer the more realistic looking ones :)

    11. I'm new - but currently much more drawn towards the realistic looking dolls. Finding one that looked incredibly lifelike was what triggered my first purchase (and turns out that she had a face originally sold as a male - but beautifully made up as a female and poss even more realistic because of this!). I find the range of dolls out there absolutely overwhelming at the moment - but this is a great thread for me as there are loads of people recommending 'realistic' doll companies by name, yay! :D

    12. Although I'm into anime I prefer more realistic dolls. That doesn't mean I don't like some dolls from Fairyland/Luts and some more anime-looking dolls from other companies. The ones that scream to me are much more realistic (Narin, Iplehouse, etc.) Some dolls look a tad too realistic though and I avoid them.

    13. I think both Anime-styled dolls and semi-realistic dolls are both equally beautiful, but I find that I tend to skim over the anime styled dolls a little more. They're pretty, but they don't really -grip- me like some of the dolls with less cartoony facial features do. Don't get me wrong; I like my androgny; I like my pretty boys, but I tend to be drawn more toward nice, softly chiseled features as opposed to a more stylized appearance. As I said...both are beautiful, and in the long run, it all boils down to what character, if any, I'm basing my doll after, or what vision I might have in my head at the time. Of course this all depends on one's interpretation of what constitutes as "anime", as it comes in a variety of styles. Some might say that my Jesper (Souldoll-Eliot) might look anime, but I personally don't see it...but I digress. I have my preferences, but that isn't to say I won't ever own an anime-style doll sometime in the future, because I've seen some pretty gorgeous ones. I'm flexible like that.

    14. I personally find that I do not like the more anime-styled dolls. I do like them on occasion and even have a couple that are more "anime" styled, but I love the more realistic dolls. Even my anime dolls are on the less-stylized end of the "anime" spectrum (larger noses, smaller eyes, defined lips). I'd love to have some incredibly hyper-realistic dolls.

    15. I like my dolls to be stylised. I love looking at some of the much more realistic BJDs, but I don't think I'd ever buy one. I like the large eyes and exagerrated features of a lot of the anime-looking dolls because it fits my characters better. Also, since I prefer girl dolls, it doesn't matter if the head is androgynous. :)

There are lots of anime style dolls I don't like and some more realistic dolls, like my Soulkid or Iplehouse, that I adore. It all depends on the scuplt.

    16. I love stylized dolls. While the extremes of Dollfie Dream leave me cold, I also don't feel drawn to very realistic dolls such as Iplehouse. Don't get me wrong, they're beautiful - but I find them too beautiful to relate to. My favourite look is the one championed by the Delf line - stylized, but not overly cartoony, highly versatile and full of character and quirks.

    17. I prefer realistic dolls over anime styled dolls. Lately, I just cant help but find the huge eye sockets kind of...peculiar? I dunno haha. My favorites though are the semi-realistic ones, I just love me some androgyny *w*

    18. I prefer anime-styled or very stylized faces, and my collection reflects that. I admire the more realistic sculpts, but they've just never really appealed to me enough for me to think of purchasing them. I just find the anime sculpts allow for so much potential, as the painted-on eye shape can change so much about the face and the character. To me, realistic faces seem to have too many of these details already present in the sculpt and limit things a little bit too much for my taste. They're gorgeous, but just not what I look for. :)

    19. I like both the anime and more realistic styled dolls. I love the realistic dolls and how with the right styling they can look just like real people, but I'm also a fan of anime and because of that love the stylized looks of Volks and Luts dolls.

    20. I prefer the more, realistic dolls because I see them like little people and it's weird looking when people look like anime characters
